The initial salesperson, Micheline, was professional and competent, visiting our home and helping us select the best types of granite to complement the existing cupboards and flooring. Unfortunately, when the workmen came to install the countertops in the kitchen they broke a chunk off the edge of the countertop during installation. Rather than taking that smaller cornerpiece back and making a new piece, they glued the broken piece back on and said nothing to us. We noticed the repaired edge almost immediately and insisted they replace that portion of the countertop. When they returned to take it out, they broke the edge of the larger piece next to it and attempted to glue it back together (unbelievable). This time I discovered the workman doing this and insisted they remove the larger piece as well. The two pieces were taken back to the shop, refabricated and re-installed. During re-installation, a crack was made in one of the pieces bordering the sink. This does not compromise the structural integrity of the countertop and is cosmetic only. Two weeks after the second installation, the sink collapsed off the bottom of the counter while it was full of water and pots. If someone had not been home to respond immediately, the spilled water would have damaged the hardwood floors. The owner of the company returned with workmen and supervised the reinstallation the sink. Since the countertops have been installed, the seams have "broken" twice in 3 years, requiring the workmen to return for further repairs. The last time the workmen came, the owner told me that this is common with granite, i.e. the pieces shift, seams break, and repairs are needed. I was surprised to learn this. Perhaps this is true but no other acquaintances of ours who have granite countertops have ever indicated that they have their granite countertops repaired every 1.5 years or even less often than that. Needless to say, we are not happy with the quality of the work performed by this company and would not use them again. Now for the bathroom countertop installation. The first piece installed had a flaw in it that occurred during installation. We chose a second piece we liked even more so all turned out well. Unfortunately, the workman carelessly drilled the holes for the plumber to install the faucets after installing the second piece. The holes were uneven and drilled too close to the back of the countertop. When they plumber came to install the faucets he informed me that the placement of the faucet holes was unacceptable and that the faucet handles would be flush against the backsplash with no space to clean behind the faucets. The workmen from Smokey Mountain Tops returned and argued with me that the hole placement was fine. Against my better judgement, I had the plumber install the faucets and just as he had predicted, the faucets were placed unevenly with some of the faucets and handles absolutely flush against the backsplash and others up to 1 cm from the backsplash. Again, the owner had to return with his installers and had to shift the entire granite piece away from the back of the cupboard. This partially compensated for the poor workmanship. If I had to do it over again, I would have insisted they pull all the countertops out of the kitchen and bathroom and start over again from scratch. In fairness to the owner, Todd Scott, he offered us this option at one point but I was just too exhausted and fed up with his installers to do this at the time. I feel the owner of the company was responsible, professional, competent, and responsive in his dealings with us. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of some of his installers. They caused a lot of problems for the owner and us with their sloppy workmanship.

Description of Work: Got a quote for Vetrazzo recycled glass countertops. Price pretty outrageous, $8000-9000. The company was unwilling to work with a company who provided a similar material but for a cheaper price.

They came and made a template as to what our existing countertops were. They took measurements and cut outs for sinks. I don’t know what the process is but it is quartz which is combination of granite and some kind of material that they use. It is a very tough surface and you can’t destroy it. I liked everything about them. They are great people. They are very competent and knowledgeable. They did not mess up my house. They cleaned everything. They laid papers so they would not dirty the kitchen floor. They were top notch. I do not know much about the price as everything was done with Lowe’s. I went to Lowe’s and picked up the patter and what I want. They make all the arrangements.

The reps from Smokey Mountain Tops were very professional. They came & measured/built a template to ensure accuracy. The esitmate was spot on. They then installed my countertops beautifully - and were able to get it done sooner than I expected. The B ratings indicated above are for poor sink installation. I have recently had to have a plumber come out & re-do the drain seal, as it began leaking.

They did an excellent job and I just loved my countertops. They installed them professionally and without causing any damage to my hardwood floors. They were very quick and worked hard to complete the job. They made me feel comfortable while they were here and I had no problems with them. They cleaned up all of the mess and took the garbage out with them.
Description of Work: They installed countertops in my kitchen. They are Tessaro Granite counters with a double sink, 15 foot island, corner piece that is 5 feet and an end piece which is 2 feet.
