Mencer’s Tree Service has broken TN State Law twice within 3 months completely blocking emergency access to homes on our road for over eight hours each time. They don’t notify you in advance that they are going to block emergency access to your home and that if your neighbors. Plus, in my opinion they use huge cranes that are not necessary for the job. If you don’t want to upset all your neighbors and break TN state law I would definitely recommend using an alternative company.

I hate posting negative reviews for companies, but I feel it's my duty to inform the public before you experience the same issue I have. First off, Mencer's Tree Service did a good job removing the tree's from my property. No question about that. Just wanted to get that out there. My issue came about as we had numerous stumps that needed to be removed. A large stump grinder was used, and our irrigation line was ruptured in numerous places. The owner of the company was notified, and they have chosen not to be responsible for the subsequent damage that they caused while grinding the stumps on our property. Bottom line - Mencer's Tree Service was not the cheapest option we had to remove our trees, but we chose them based on their reputation/reviews. When you pay thousands of dollars to have trees removed, you expect a certain level of work. Their employees caused the subsequent damage to our irrigation system, and yet they don't feel as it's their responsibility to reimburse me for the damage they caused. Hope this helps someone down the road.

If Your Next Door Neighbor Hires Mencer's Tree Service, Watch Out!! When my next door neighbor hired Mencer's to remove 2 mature backyard trees, I wanted to head off any problems with Mencer's using my property. Simply, I was crystal clear in asking Mencer's to stay off my property. Shouldn't be difficult to follow since the closest tree being removed was 35 feet away from my property. Potential problems averted with Mencer's, so you would think. Instead, throughout the long day, Mencer's repeatedly worked across my property. First, they dropped their equipement in my yard popping back and forth into my yard to use it. Using my yard is just what I asked them not to do. Next, I encountered Mencer's transporting logs over my property at the point of already having hauled 2/3 of the cut up 40 foot tree trunk to their wood chipper! Again, using my yard is just what I asked them not to do. Finally, Mencer's left my deck and staircase covered in sawdust and wood chips. Deciding to call the young family manager of Mencer's to discuss all of this fell on deaf ears. He responded in a condescending, sarcastic way that I was talking too much, boldly downplayed anything that his crew did, didn't own any responsibility for tresspassing anytime over my property, and callously summed it up as "tough luck". Why I was forced into having to waste my time in dealing with Mencer's tree service at all is an outrage. I was not their customer and never will be. But Mencer's decided to use my property as a shortcut to get their job done, disrepecting me as a property owner who had politely but firmly asked them to stay off my property. Mencer's tree service crew was sneaky and deceitful and their young management showed a real lack of integrity, professionalism, and fairness. Mencer's may brazenly take any opportunities they can get away with by using your neighbor's property as long as it benefits Mencer's. There are plenty of great tree services in East Tennessee that work with integrity and whose owners have a professional businesss acumen in dealing with the public. Under young family management, Mencer's is not one of them, not caring to make "it right" with the neighbors of their customers who they have disrespected and infringed upon. So, if you do have consideration for your neighbors and their property, I would recommend that you do not hire Mencer's.

Excellent! We had a tree fall due to heavy rain that needed to be removed. We also had them price the removal of two dead trees. Not only did they remove the fallen tree, they repaired the damage to my yard. I was most impressed about how well they cleaned up and removed the debris from all of the tree removal. Very professional crew.

The work crew, led by Ryan, did an outstanding job of trimming back a tree and removing the branches. The professionalism of the rep for Mencer's (Andy) was terrible. When I asked Andy if his workers could move their trucks (after they were done trimming my trees) so I wouldn't violate any HOA restrictions, Andy was not very professional. He stated and inferred he was doing me a favor by trimming back my tree...I reminded him he wasn't, and the actual process for our agreement was for him to do the work and I pay him for that work. Andy also didn't like the fact I called him to get tree branches (from a neighbor's tree) removed from my property...his crew had cut down a couple of trees on a neighbor's empty lot and were told by Andy to just let those trimmings remain on my property. The work crew did return (they were great to talk to) and removed the branches in just a few minutes. I would hire the workers again with no hesitation, but I wouldn't hire Mencer's if I had to deal with Andy again...if possible, avoid.

On February 24, 2017, we were visited and given an estimated cost of $550 to remove the tree and some other downed wood from the back yard. He marked the trees to be removed with spray paint. We agreed to this plan and shook hands to solidify the agreement. When we asked about payment, we were told that we would be billed when the work was done. Mr. Mencer was very personable, stayed for conversation and showed us pictures of the home he was building near Myrtle Beach, SC. After several weeks passed, we called Mencer's on April 14, 2017 to request a status update, and left a detailed message. We received no return phone call. After returning home from several weeks out of town, we called again on June 1, 2017 and left a detailed message requesting a call/status update. On June 4, 2017, we discovered the tree had fallen and landed on the neighbor's fence. The on-call service for Mencer's agreed to relay the message and said they would have them call us. No return call was received. We called Mencer's on June 5, 2017 and left a detailed message. Late that afternoon we received a call from the office manager and were told that someone would call us the next morning. We received no call. We called back on the afternoon of June 6, 2017, and spoke with Angie Campbell, the office manager. She confirmed that the work had been agreed to on February 24, but they had not completed the work. She made a phone call and then reported that, due to recent storms and trees down on homes, they could not say when they could get to it. Our displeasure about their lack of service, or a contact to let us know they could not complete the work so that we could find another service was communicated. The additional cost of addressing the damages to our neighbors' property was also communicated. She said "sorry" and asked if we wanted the number of another business. This was a terrible experience.
Description of Work: We needed to have a partially uprooted tree removed from our back yard. It was leaning on one of our next door neighbors' large trees and, if it fell, looked as though it would land on another neighbors' fence. We spoke with Mencer's on February 23, 2017 and arranged for a visit/estimate.

They took both trees down in about two hours. The crew left the area free of debris. They did scratch up my neighbor's fence with tree limbs on a bobcat but hoping they will come out with pressure washing. Also left a scratch in my driveway but not a big deal to me. This is the second time I've hired them and I highly recommend them. My only complaint is that they don't really schedule, they just show up at their convenience. This proved to be a bit of an issue this time since I had a contractor scheduled to come out at the same time they showed up - it prevented me from adequately discussing the other outdoor project with the contractor.

Excellent service!! We had a very tall river birch tree by the house that needed to be cut. First, I called to make an appointment to get a quote. The lady who answers phones and emails are very responsive and courteous. They offered to come out the following day. Mr. Mencer arrived ahead of time and explained everything. Quote he gave was one third of what an equally reputable tree service company had quoted! We agreed that they can come out whenever they have open schedule without appointment. Within 10 days of the quote, I returned home from work and found the tree gone!! A housecleaner who happened to see them said a group of men came with a truck and finished work in about 30 minutes. They cleaned up nicely without any debris left. I will highly recommend Mencer's!!

We had acerage that needed to be cleared for a home site, yard and driveway. The crew showed up early and got to work. They worked for 3 straight days and of course, needed to take breaks. I'm quite certain alive never seen harder working guys. They even encouraged us to save certain trees, based on the health of it OR encourage d certain trees to be taken down, also due to the health of the trees. They were flexible with our requests and did a professional job.

They were to come out and clean up all of the dead trees and other logs. They arrived around 8:30, but didn't start working until around 8:45. They worked through the day and took about an hour lunch. In the early afternoon, my wife became ill and we had to rush to the ER in an ambulance. I explained this to the head crew member that I had to leave, but to treat the project and property like it was their own. They told me they were leaving at 4 p.m. sharp. They ended up leaving the project unfinished. I paid $3,500 for 8 hours of work. They arrived 45 minutes late and took the hour lunch. That's an hour and 45 minutes of time I was changed and no work was getting done. There is only 3-5% of the job that still needs to be completed. I was happy with the other work that they completed, but I want the entire project done.

Sir - You did receive 8 hours worth of work and that's what you get for a daily. They guys always leave the lot at 7:30AM and you aren't far from the lot so I'm certain the guys were there well before 8am. They do get a 30 minute lunch but also keep in mind they must go and dump their truck(s) when they get full so that may have taken another 30 minutes. Also on a daily - they guys do leave at 4 and clients are told this up front as well. Andy Mencer called you the very next day and left you a message asking if he can come back over and meet with you but you never returned his phone call. I told you when you called me on 4/13/16 that if they left a mess then they need to come back the next day to finish but it would cost more money but you didn't like that idea. A daily rate is not a guarantee that we will finish the job in 1 day and the clients are told that up front. We also tried to communicate with you in the end but you weren't returning calls so we had no idea what you expected out of us.

The quote included copies of his insurance certificates. Mencer's crew arrived on time on the day scheduled. There were 7 workers and all the trucks and equipment needed for the job. They immediately started to work on the marked trees and worked steadily all morning to finish the job before noon. The climbers were very skilled, efficient, safety conscious and courteous. They dropped the limbs without causing damage to the surrounding yard or shrubs. Some of the trees were near power lines and they were handled with no issue. All limbs up to 6-8 inches were chipped and the larger portions of the trees were hauled off in a dump truck. After the trees were felled, the crew cleaned up all the debris by raking, carrying to the chipper and finally blowing the sawdust so it could be collected or distributed. We kept the chips to use as mulch.

This was the second or third time I have used Mencer's Tree Service and I have been pleased each time. They showed up with a crew of about seven and all the right equipment. It was a pleasure to watch the teamwork. Each man seem to know this job and performed it well. The tree was cut down, run through chipper, site cleaned up and all was completed in only 30-40 minutes. These guys are professionals at what they do and the price was reasonable. I would definitely call on Mencer's again if the need arises.

After purchasing a house with a neglected yard one of the first orders of business was taming some trees and removing some brush that was growing wildly in the backyard. I was able to convince LCUB to remove one; leaving me with one large oak tree needing trimming and and the aforementioned brush patch. The brush was approximately 20 feet deep by almost 100 feet wide; it had been growing wild for several years and was full of vines, bushes, and small trees less than 3" in diameter. Mencer's was quick to respond to my estimate request and the estimator was punctual and obviously very knowledgeable regarding plants and trees. I showed him the work needing done and his estimate process involved stroking his chin and throwing out a number. He told me they were working about a month out and would call to schedule. I left it at that, not really pleased with the number but figuring I would ponder on it and let them know whether or not I wanted to continue when the scheduler called. About two weeks later I just happened to be at home one morning waiting on another contractor to arrive for some driveway work when a crew of almost a dozen men and several trucks pulled in and started getting ready to work. I told the foremen that they were supposed to have called and scheduled; the reply was along the lines of "your work order didn't indicate that". I spoke to a member of the Mencer family, he stated that they typically don't call ahead but would send the crew to another job and call me to schedule. No further contact was received from the company, which was fine with me. I bought a chainsaw and brush cutter, obtained a burn permit, and got to work. For a cost of about $300 and about 12 hours of labor I got the same (if not better) results, minus of course what can't be reached without a bucket truck. And I have a chainsaw as a souvenir. If I hadn't been home that morning I'm sure I'd have a bill in the mail for work I no longer wanted done.

First, they came out exactly when promised & promptly got to work. I was surprised to see all the heavy equipment ie: bucket truck, chipper, bobcat etc. I have used companies in the past that are unable to finish the job the first day because these pieces of equipment are at another job. They were super efficient and were all working in unison to get the job done correctly and quickly. The large tree was right next to my house, but I was never even concerned about a branch falling into it. They also did a great job cleaning up every ounce of mess that was left. Everyone is always very friendly and willing to address any concerns you might have. I will definitely use them again for any tree issues I have & will highly recommend them to others!
