The process went very well. Their inspector came out and did a great job explaining the system an answring our questions. The installers actually came out the week before our scheduled date and completed all of the work, professionally, in one day.
Description of Work: Installed a material called "CleanSpace" in my crawl space, including wrapping the houe piers, sealing the vents from inside the crawlspac and installing a "San/Dry CX Air System" (humidifier).

I called MasterDry because the inside walls at the corners of my basement were wet. There was some wetness around the base of the floor as well, but no standing water. I called MasterDry thinking that they would check for mold as well as give me options to correct the problem. As far as checking for mold, that may have been an assumption on my part since they advertise basement waterproofing. The salesman came to my house and basically wanted to sell me their system, which is probably great for a basement that floods or has a measurable amount of water coming in. My basement did not. The salesman kept pushing the lifetime warranty, which actually only covered their system, not any possible damage for their system failing. I asked him if they had alternative options and he told me I could put a new French Drain in which would mean tearing up the whole outside area around the foundation - an option that just wasn't practical and an option that I don't even know if they offered. I asked him about mold and he just skirted that issue. I received the quote which was over $5000 (including a military discount) and I told him I'd let him know. When I talked to him again I mentioned that the block wall in one room was wet and he told me that they could put a special covering over the wall at an additional cost of course. The more I thought about the system, the more I realized that it was not what I needed. I did not have enough water in my basement to warrant their system which included a sump pump. I called a contractor who told me that my problem wasn't really that bad and by adding a drainage pipe (not a new French Drain around the base of my house) and changing the flow of the water outside around my house would correct the problem, including the wet wall. He came and did the work for me at a cost of $1750 as opposed to $5000+. I no longer have the water issue. I have no complaints about this company's product or work. I am writing this review to let you know that even though the system they wanted to sell me sounded good and sounded like it was just what I might need, it was not. The salesman was selling a product not trying to fix a problem.

Thank you for the opportunity to come out and inspect your home. I'm sorry that you feel that our recommendation was not the right fit for your issue. What we have found from waterproofing thousands of basements is that changing the flow of water on the exterior does help but usually is a temporary fix. It redirects the surface water but it is the water that soaks into the ground, and water that comes up from the water table that causes most of the problems in a basement. Our goal is to fix the problem permanently so you never have to call us again - what we have found is that people generally have to call us again when we do exterior slope changes. Our system has been installed thousands and thousands of times and it works so well that we can offer a lifetime warranty. Most exterior work comes with a very short warranty in comparison because the failure rate over time is so high. We sincerely hope that the work you had performed fixes your issue for good! If you ever need us in the future please don't hesitate to call.

The day after the installation we had some heavy rains that caused our entire 14 feet wide living room to flood. We ended up removing 16 gallons of water. A lot of the mud that was dug up and the hay placed on top of it ran off into our street. All the dirt they dug up the day they installed the drains, was spread out through our yard creating a slope towards the house. We contact them letting them know of the issue. They came back right away to review the problem. Instead of sloping away from the house, the "fixed it" by piling up dirt by the house reaching the siding, creating suitable environment for termites and also allowing easier access for ground water to reach inside the home. We later found that this is against code. We had to go in and remove what dirt we could ourselves. During some of the rainy days, we had to go outside and help water move away from the house, like we used to before the drains were installed. I called them again. I talked to Jim, their project manager, very nice and polite gentleman. He came by the house to review what had happened once again and took some pictures. Today, 7/16, another group came by to correct the issue. Needless to say, we're still in the same situation as before. Overall, their management is easy to reach, easy to talk to, they come over right away, but their workers don't seem to understand what they need to do to actually fix the problem. **UPDATE** After our review on Angie's List, Jon Babcock, the owner, contacted us right away. We discussed the issue, what we expected, what was delivered. He was eager to have our issue fixed. He listed to description of the problem, he gave his suggestion, and rescheduled an appointment for August 6th. Tuesday September 3rd, we had a new chance to test the latest work done. Unfortunately the issue remains. Water continues to accumulate causing it to get in the house. They still failed to REMOVE the dirt they dug up and continued to create a grade that slopes towards the foundation with each visit. With the grading towards the house the drains are essentially useless since the water just pools against the house and if the rain is moderate then it is able to pool enough to actually leak inside due it having no where else to go. Also we have been in contact with other companies that do this type of work and 100% of our second opinions questioned the placement of the drains. The consensus is that the drains should have been placed around 10 ft away from the house with large amounts of dirt removed to create a swell sloping AWAY from the house so that all of the water is forced into the drain system. With the drains being so close any moderate rain will not capture all of the precipitation due to the grade forcing it more towards the house than the draining system. I feel the company did not take proper care to analyze the situation from the beginning and did not have the expertise to take on this seemingly small project. I made sure I questioned what they were going to do each time they came out and explained this situation every time. Not a single person even wrote down details. They were prompt in getting back with me to give me an overview of the project and price. The project was scheduled for the following 2 weeks and they arrived with extra help since they had another project finish early. The work was done and cleaned up better than I expected. After installing power to the pump/well system everything seems to be functioning well. I would use them again.

They were wonderful, they were really good, I was impressed with those people. They knew what to do because I was in Minnesota and the house is in Tennessee so they had water logistics on how to do this and I sent my husband down there to see that when they did the job. They were very attentive to detail, the guys really knew what they were doing, I was really impressed. There was a lot of money and I wondered am I being foolish to spend a lot of money but I think they did a good job.
Description of Work: I used Master Dry Foundation & Waterproofing Specialists for foundation repair, basement waterproofing, and mold testing and remediation. The house is on a hillside and it was settling so they had to put piers into the ground to stabilize it, also not knowing about cinder block, there was a water problem so they dug a transfer on the entire lower level of the ground floor and they put in a drain so the water now drains out. I had a real bad problem with mold and they put in a humidifier. They did a lot of work.

The whole process went very well and a lot faster than I thought... This is the only reason that I gave Price a B rating. They were here 2 days (a total of 16 hours) which meant that I paid them $500 an hour for this installation. I thought it would take a week and around 5 people would be here (there were 3). They arrived went straight to work,. had the basement dug out in no time ... installed the pipe and had it covered and was ready to do the wrap.. I didn't like the way the wrap looked so they stopped and returned the next day.. They took down all the wrap they had installed the day before and started over... It started looking much better... The first day all three worked in the basement, on the second day, two worked the basement and one stayed in the yard....These three guys were great and worked really well together.. They were so nice and friendly but very professional.. They made sure I was satisfied with the work.. The only thing they didn't do was to clean the driveway... It was dark when they finished and had to drive back to Knoxville that night (a four hour drive) so I cleaned it myself.... It was a mess and took nearly 3 hours to do..
Description of Work: Installed drainage system around perimeter of my basement and installed a sump pump. They dug a ditch around the floor of my basement and put a pipe in to catch incoming water and diverted this water to a sump pump. They also wrapped the bottom half of my basement which is concrete block with a material called "cleanspace" which is supposed to catch any incoming water that comes in through the concrete. They also installed a drainage system in my front yard to catch water before seeping under the foundation and into the basement. Hoping the yard system really works and the water never makes it to the basement again.

Overall, the work was done very professionally. I felt that they knew what they were doing and would recommend them.
Description of Work: We had Master Dry install the 'dry space' system in our crawl space. We had some moisture and mold issues. When they did the initial inspection, they also found some foundation supports that needed to be replaced as well. The house is over 100 years old and although it has been remodeled, the crawl space did need some extra/replacement floor supports... Master Dry did a lot of work in replacing the foundation/joist supports and then installed the dry space and dehumidifier. They did an excellent job. Although our job was somewhat costly, they did a lot of work and spent about 4 or 5 days getting all this work done. The dry space system seems to be working well, Master Dry was very professional and knowledgeable about what they were doing. The workers were also very good, punctual and always cleaned up any mess. I think our moisture and mold problems have been solved. We only had one small issue... after the dehumidifier was installed, it leaked out into the crawlspace. I called MD and they were out the next day to correct it. I would recommend MD.

A representative arrived on time and before he reviewed the area in concern we sat down and reviewed the area of concern and what each of us expected. I told him how I could potentially fix the problem myself but I wanted him to assess the problem as well. I also told him that if the work performed was more that X amount that I probably would not have his company do the work. After discussion he suggested that I call him back when I decided to be more serious about him fixing my crawl space. I agreed and told him that I appreciated his honesty and that I indeed would call again if I could not fix the area myself. I think his fix would have been very good but more money than I wanted to spend at this time.

The gentleman came on time and called ahead to verify. He came and looked at our trouble area (the drainage behind our house by our basement and crawl space). He said he understood our situation but they do not do that work, their line of business is when you actually have water in the house. He did a humidity test in the basement and said we were fine, there was nothing they could do for us. This was good because I believe he was not looking for a problem to solve.

We met with the salesman for an estimate and didn't feel the pressure from this company like some of their competitors. We called the office and scheduled an appointment. The workers showed up on time and date scheduled. They were brilliant, hard working, very professional and carried the drilled foundation pieces out in 5 gallon buckets, paying close attention to clean up and even worked around our plumber being there on the same day. We had minor problems during the process but the foreman was VERY reassuring and put our minds at ease and all problems were resolved. One week after the job was done we had a little bit of water in front of our fireplace so made one phone call and had the foreman there within an hour. The problem was fixed quickly and we've had no other problems in the last month. The only drawback I ran across was not being told that it would take up to 90 DAYS for the concrete to cure and could not put heavy furniture or carpet on it. Overall, I would recommend Master Dry to anyone. You won't be sorry.

The Masterdry representative was very professional and very knowledgeable about his business' services. He had some great computer videos that explained MD's services and philsophies to correct crawl space water/dampness problems. My problem with this company was there was no attempt to keep water out of the crawlspace in the first place; it was all about getting it out after the fact. I had a couple of rotten floor joists so I had a problem that needed solved as to how the water was getting in. There was no emphasis or consideration placed on this - the most important - aspect of the problem. The price quoted to get the water out and fully "encapsulate" the crawl space was over $10K. Solving the initial problem of keeping the water out would save almost half of this cost, and possibly make the other unnecessary. While their products and services are probably top quality, they should first focus on solving the problem and not the unnecessary "fixes." I'm sure there's a market for that service as well.

Response from Master Services
Member's home had rotten header boards, which was not causing the water problems, but was a result of the water coming in. The sub-floor and header boards are actually below grade. We did discuss exterior options and the pros and cons associated with these vs. interior options of encapsulation and dehumidifying his crawl space. Since most exterior options fail over time, we feel that our Master Dry interior system with a lifetime guarantee is the best way to go and a permanent solution. Since this post, we have tried to contact the Member on a number of occasions, unsuccessfully. We always work hard to create understanding of each unique issue with our customers. We firmly believe that customer service is the foundation of our company.

The hardest part of the project was the requirement ahat we completely remove everything from the wall they would work on, including all the pegboard and shelves. It took us a couple of days. We were impressed with the professionalism of the sales rep, the office staff and the workmen who actually did the job. Master Dry is a class outfit -- or at least this franchisee is. That helped us swallow what we thought was a high price for the work. However, we no longer have a mildew problem in the basement, so we have a happy ending.
Description of Work: MasterDry dug a trench along one wall of the basement workroom and installed a sump pump. They drilled holes in the block to drain into the trench to the pump. They covered the wall with a plastic material and installed a large commercial grade dehumidifier.
