We consulted with Master Construction Alliance on a project for approximately 3 months, giving the proposal of our full project at the onset. Our budget was discussed and raised at their suggestion. After investing several months' time and money in this company, they came back with a budget of well over double what we had been discussing from the beginning (i.e., our budget was $130,000; they presented us with a $280,000 project without changing the scope of the project!!). We firmly believe that the philosophy of this company is to come in with an extreme number in order to negotiate the homeowner's budget somewhere quite a bit higher than what was originally planned or budgeted. Further, we paid $1500 for renovation plans that we were never able to have delivered by them or refunded. This company is out to scam people. Would strongly recommend checking references, licensing before even beginning to consult with them.

Bob, their salesman was awesome and took the time to explain the option of an upgraded warranty to us, which we ended up purchasing. Our entire project was complete in one day!
Description of Work: MCA provided us with a new roof and gutters. We have an unusual chimney and they still took on the job and it looks great!

Contacted this company several times and left them messages in order to have them come over and give us an estimate on our remodleing project on the house we just purchased, never got a response back! I don't know how these people are in business! Even if they won't be available they should be professional enough to call back the customer.

It worked out well and we are very pleased with the finished product. We ended up with a beautiful custom kitchen. The painting was outstanding. Overall, we really liked it. We only had one issue and I think that it was pretty good. The price was great and the quality of the products was better. They were always punctual and very professional.
Description of Work: Master Custom Home Remodeling were the general contractor on the initial re-modeling. They re-molded the kitchen, family room and the laundry room. They put on a new roof and installed new windows. They did crown molding. They painted throughout.

They are excellent. They are very knowledgeable, very experienced and very neat. I would highly recommend them to anyone. I had three bids and I've found them in the middle. But overall the service is excellent and the crew is excellent. I got the best deal. The quality is fantastic. They are always on time. They clean up when they leave. They are very professional.
Description of Work: I am using Master Custom Home Remodeling currently. They are remodeling a bathroom, expanding a pantry and built some bookshelves for me.

This was one of the worst experiences me and my sister have ever had. They were unprofessional, lied to us about everything, and the workmanship was just horrid. We chose Master Custom Home Remodeling because we thought that they would do a better job on a custom home as they do home remodeling. We contacted him and the very first question I asked Mr. Kornhouse on the phone if they did wire shelving and he said they do. Therefore, we set up an appointment for the gentleman to come out and make his measurements. I told him we have a very good quality wire shelving in the home where I live now and asked if he would like to come and look at it so he would know what we wanted. He declined to come look at the wire shelving and he said he could figure it out. He came out, measured, wrote everything down and everything appeared okay. He brought another guy out, began the work in a couple of weeks and indicated there were no problems. This is at a brand new home that we have not moved into yet which is why we were not there supervising. Then we called our builder and said to go over and see how they are doing. The builder said I had to give him some tips and he said they seemed to be a little inexperienced about how they are doing some of the work. He said you all are just going to have to come and look at it. So, we set up an appointment to come and look at the finished product and it was absolutely beyond the worst job I have ever seen in my life. The shelving was poor quality, it was thin and all scratched up. They put the screws in too tight and put dents in the wall. They didn't cap the ends, had no plastic support pieces at the end where the shelf sits on, the shelves were all different lengths, didn't know how to put the shelves together and some were just stacked on top of each other. Anyway, after it was done, the gentleman said I have to have my money today and my sister said well, can't you just bill me? He said no, I have to have it right now and he followed her home to get the check. Mr. MacKay contacted me to set up an appointment to get the measurements to install wire shelving at my new house. When I mentioned the poor quality of the work they did at my sister's, I informed him he would not be doing the work at my house as well. He said that he wasn't aware of the problem and when he knew everything, he was very apologetic and said let's set up an appointment so I can come out and look at it. Then he came out and said that I don't care what it takes, we are not leaving your property until you are perfectly satisfied with the outcome. He left that day agreeing it was a horrible job and he would be getting back to us. Mr. MacKay did send another gentlemen out to remove the shelving and repair the wall which we were satisfied with. He did a good job and I decided to move forward with their services. Then I called him about a week later to know about the game plan. He told he had fired the guy that did the work and that he is going to find another person who could do the work. Then he said he would call me back to let me know when we could set up another appointment. I called him back two weeks later and he said he just hadn't had time to look into it. Then two more weeks go by, but he still didn't called me back. I asked my sister to call Mr. MacKay to see if he would answer her phone calls and he did not. So, I asked the builder to call them also, he did return his call and he said that he just hadn't had time to fool with it. Then my builder said if you are not interested, why don't you just refund them the money and he agreed to that. Then they didn't return the money and stopped returning our phone calls. Finally, my sister was able to get a hold of the bookkeeper in their office and she told her that they are willing to return only half of the money. Finally, she had to contact an attorney to send a letter before we could get half the money back and this why I decided not to go with this company for my home. For any company that causes this much trouble over wire shelving is not a company I would ever use or recommend to anyone. Also, in their advertising commercials, they claim to always make the job process smooth, painless, professional, to always use an experienced contractor and for the client to always expect a master piece. I found none of this to be true.

Description of Work: We had Master Custom Home Remodeling come out to give us an estimate for specific work we wanted done. They are very prompt and professional and we wanted them to do our work. They are very good at suggesting additional improvements and additions to your job plan which we initially agreed to have included in our quote. These additions dramatically escalated the cost of our job; they declined to do only the work we originally proposed.

I decided to try this company because of all of their publicity in the Knoxville community thinking this would give them credibility, but I was left disappointed. They sent a gentleman out that was very professional and on time for the scheduled appointment. We spent at least an hour going over all of the repairs, including roofing and gutter work, I needed. Nothing happened for a couple of weeks until I received a call from another person who was now estimating my repairs and I had to start over explaining the scope of the work...not a good sign. After that call, I have heard nothing and that has been at least three months ago. Clearly not very good on follow through so I would have no confidence in hiring them and expecting a job to be completed.
Description of Work: Requested an estimate on roofing, guttering, window replacement/painting and other storm damage repair work. Also, needed interior maintenance work that was to fall under their "handyman" services per the estimator.

Thanks goodness, I had scheduled my move so all the work was complete before I moved in! In the course of the work, numerous change notices or requests were initiated by me. They responded to all of them. In the end, I am completely satisfied with the quality of their work, and have already let them know that I am planning to call them back for some additional work later on. I highly recommend them!
Description of Work: After I bought my home in Knoxville to move into from Arlington, VA, I needed to not only bring it up to code electrically, I had to fix some of the shortcomings found by the inspector, as well as more or less modernize the 1953 house. My daughter recommended Master Custom Home Remodeling. During an initial meeting where I laid out what I thought needed to be done, they responded with a complete and fairly reasonable estimate. The major things I had done were to build a large deck, convert a half bath into a full bath, and modernize the kitchen.

From the very beginning, working with Master Custom Homes was a great experience. They presented several design plans, based on our desires and suggestions, and came up with a great design that worked well for us. The entire remodel took just over two months. They did a complete demolition of the existing bathroom and rebuilt it, from the floor up. All of the subcontractors they used were professional and experts at their craft. Interior walls were moved, as were the commode, shower, vanities, and sinks. They installed an outdoor tankless water heater, and new electrical and plumbing lines. We had a spa shower built, as well, along with a spacious linen closet. The company assigned one of their employees to be the project supervisor. He was at the house every day to oversee the progress of the job and coordinate the flow of work. We gave him a key to the house that he kept in a lock box on the front door knob. We had no concerns at all that our property was in good hands and would be properly supervised. Master Custom Homes supplied their own dumpster and did a thorough clean up of the site every day, including vacuuming. Any of our floors that they needed to walk on were covered with a drop cloth to prevent any damage. They even supplied their own Port-A-Potty in the driveway so none of the workers would need to use our bathrooms. Also, they supplied a decorator who went with me to pick out colors, plumbing fixtures, tiles, vanities, and granite. After the bathroom was finished, they employed a cleaning service to come and clean the entire bathroom and master bedroom thoroughly. Although their estimate was not the least expensive one we received, there is no question that we would definitely hire them again to do more work for us. They were very specific about the charges, in advance, so there were no surprises when it came to paying them. I really cannot say enough good things about this company. There was not one problem or glitch in the entire process. The bathroom looks wonderful, and they were a pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: We did a total remodel of the master bathroom. The room was taken down to the studs and rebuilt, from floor to roof. Interior walls were moved, and plumbing and electrical work was redone.

I liked how they dealt with it very much. They were upfront, from the very beginning, they said they would charge $75 for the estimate and that would be deducted from the final cost of the project if you go with us. They came back 2-3 times with different designs and just worked on the whole thing. There was no surprises going on with him which I kind of liked. We have a preconstruction meeting on Wednesday. We will meet the construction crew, they will be in the house and take over. They were very thorough in explaining what their position in the house physically will be, that they cover the floors, bring their own porta-potties, etc. They are very punctual and professional.
