Construction of the base platform went well, finished quickly and properly designed and sized. However, the handrail and decking system was a problem. It was rushed to partial completion and was not finished in a workman-like manner. Handrail posts were not vertical and not aligned. The TREX Composite deck boards were installed with joints exposed unnecessarily in many areas. Overall appearance of the deck was not satisfactory for a house addition visible from the street. Vinyl siding on house wall was damaged unnecessarily. Handrails were left in rough condition, no sanding was done. Screw holes had sharp splinters that were ugly and painful to grasp. New concrete was left to cure without any apparent attempt to do workman-like leveling and smoothing. Animal barrier had a few holes that could be penetrated by our crafty skunks. It seemed whatever we complained needed fixing, Avery claimed could not be changed to fix. He threatened to leave with the project unfinished if we did not pay him before completion the last day. He did not set up his Angie payment account so we could pay him half his labor earlier than the last day. We felt trapped into paying him because we could not complete the project ourselves. Avery never drew up a sketch/plan and go through it with us. WE adapted as we went, sometimes we had to make changes because materials were not available. We would not recommend Avery to others because much of his work was substandard. He didn't even measure the boards for the skirts of the deck, so they are all different lengths. He never showed us his final receipts. He works alone doesn't seem too well organized. The last day, he merely seemed concerned in completing the job, not in the quality of his work. He admitted his straightening the side of the deck was done poorly, even cuts in the top of the deck about an inch away from the edge! My husband has spent 3 days trying to improve the mistakes Avery made. We are so disappointed.
