Contacted JAM Architecture on April 6, 2011 to draw blueprints for an addition to our home. Mr. Mele came to the house with his unruly granddaughter in tow. Both my husband and I couldn't talk to him at the same time as one of us needed to make sure the child wasn't breaking something or dragging our dogs around the house. Everything was a hassle with Mr. Mele. No, we didn't want to trash our new garage doors because he thought they needed to be higher. No, we didn't want to have a platform instead of a ramp. No, we didn't need to have a door put in a wall that would have destroyed wall cabinet space, when there was a door not more than 8 feet away. No, we didn't want to have our pantry removed. No, we don't need a dormer that will only add a lot of cost. He didn't want to use the contractor that had recommended him. He didn't think we needed what we wanted. He said he could be done by the end of May and things kept dragging on. What was supposed to be a small job dragged on and on. By July 12, 2011, the plans were still not complete. When he had a meeting with our contractor (without our knowledge) that was the final straw. We fired him. In spite, he took our blueprints and marked them "not for construction". I know this because another architect looked at the blueprints and said he could charge us to redo them, but in essence they were fine, except for the "not for construction". So, I removed all the things he put in that we said we didn't want and put back things that we did want. With a lot of white out and even more patience, I removed the "not for construction" off each print and the project passed the codes office with flying colors. Bottom line, if you don't care when (or if) your project gets done and you don't care to have the project done the way you would like, then JAM is made for you. However, if you do want the project done to your specifications on a timely basis, JAM is NOT the place you want to be.
