Basically, huge pretense about being professional, registered with BBB, license on file, good references, blah blah, but the guy's efforts never got off the ground, fizzled to nothing, leaving me stranded and needing to find a new company. The details: The Home Craftsman Network sent a man from First Choice Carpentry to do the work and assured me through email that the two companies share business and work together, sending more information to prove their separate legitimacy. The guy sent to do the work appeared professional and sincere about working with me and also with my insurance company because he determined that the adjuster's report wasn't accurate and that I needed more money to fix the problem. Discussions between myself and him began September 9th, by Oct. 5, nothing had been done. After weeks of discussing this issue and going to the trouble of making copies of my policy and getting our ducks in a row for the big insurance meeting (I was told by a Farm Bureau rep that they would not discuss my claim with him without my presence), this guy shows up having forgotten to prepare, spends our appointment time making notes and misses the appointed time when we were supposed to talk 3-way with someone in the claims dept. Granted, we had the wrong number to begin with, but if we'd started on time, we had enough time left to work it out. I even said, "we need to make that call now." He was too focussed on his report, or so he told me. I took off work so that we could make that call. Red flags go up and I insist on more references and explanations for some questionable details I found about the business. He provides all the info. that I ask for, defensively. My fears are laid to rest and I allow him to resume his efforts in fixing my home. He tells me he's spoken with the insurance company and had a very amicable conversation. All is going well. This is the middle of October. By October 31st, I have not heard a word from him. We never agreed on price because he insisted the adjuster's report wasn't thorough, which might've been true. I don't know because he never came through on his claim that he could get the extra money needed and perform the work. That's it.
Description of Work: None, it never got that far!

The whole experience was terrible and I would never refer them to anyone!!
Description of Work: I really do not think I have enough room to honestly write everything to explain just how bad my experience was with this company. I had contacted "Home Craftsman Network" the middle of September 2008 and set up an appointment for one of the company's contractors to come out and go over the home maintanence to give an estimate. By the way the price listed does not include costs for materials, we had to pay for that as well. We had projects that included outside as well as inside work/ maintanence to be done ranging from cleaning exterior, placing river rock around bottom of house, resurfacing/ staining decks, to inside painting of the interior of house, placement of beadboard, updating electrical outlets, regrouting tile counter tops, updating faucets in kitchen, updating lights, and redoing 2 bathrooms. The man that was supposed to be a contractor was Mark Biggerstaff. We agreed on a contract and signed on 9/15/08 for the exterior work. Let's just say if it wasn't for his worker he hired, I doubt that would have ever been done. Mark Biggerstaff himself did the staining of the decks and repairs, however, he didn't do the work correctly so by February of 2009 everything was peeling up and coming apart because he did all of the application of the products wrong. When it came to doing the interior work again if it wasn't for Miguel his worker none of the work would have gotten done in a timely manner. Mark's idea of work hours was to show up at about 12 noon and work for a couple of hours if you want to call it work and then wanted to leave. I had a discussion with him about that and he claimed that he was a contractor and contractors don't have to come in all the time. Now when we signed the contract he stated he was the one that would be doing all of the work himself and would hire someone to help him out. Therefore, that means you need to show up at regular business hours and do the work. Anyways, you can see where I'm going with this hopefully. I ended up going off on him a couple of times and pretty much had to hold his hand throughout the whole time of our projects to make sure he did the work. I did catch him as well trying to do things half way so that made me not trust him and had to have a conference with the owner of "Home Craftsman Network" which is Chris Seal. I made sure that Mark was present for the meeting so we were all face to face and nothing could be denied. I thought that would settle the problem but I was saddly mistaken. It ended up that when he got to doing my mother's bathroom he kept wanting to leave and not do the tile work, never mind that he measured her bathtub wrong and it was too short for the space when it came in and he literally looked at me and said that he didn't know what to do. Now I'm not a genuis but anyone with common sense knows that you would rather have it too short than long cause you can adjust. I had to tell him what to do to fix it and he's supposed to be the contractor with so many years experience, right?! Needless to say that when he tried leaving on a Friday early again but wanting to get paid I got into it with him again and it just about came to a physical confrontation and I told him to get off of our property and never come back. My mother called Chris Seal and told him what happened and he sent another man in place to look at what was left. Of course Chris didn't believe us like a tipical man he felt we just wanted to be a pain. When his other man came out I listened to the phone call and he told Chris it was a mess and that it was a lot worse than what Mark Biggerstaff told him. I heard Chris on the other end say "are you for real!?" So he knew it had to be taken care of and let this man finish the job. After talking with the other man he enlightened me of Mark Biggerstaff's experience or should I say lack there of. This other man also saw both decks and how messed up they were thanks to Mark. We finally got the bathroom finished by this other man by the end of March 2009. So work that should have been done in a month's time took 6 long painful months. Now when you check Chris Seals's company out on BBB the only reason why he has a good rating is because he pays for things out of his own pocket so he thinks noone will report it. We are reporting it as well as we have a personal contract with him where he paid us back for the amount we paid on the decks. Mark also ran an electical line for my new bathtub in which I had to have a licensed electrician come out a fix it because he ran it wrong and incorrectly. I'm telling you right now this company is a complete joke and I would never recommend it to anyone, not even my worst enemy!!! I haven't even said everything there is to say, I'm just giving some highlights.

The decking project was a wonderful surprise. The crew from Tennessee Decking had to redo work done by another contractor. Everything went smoothly. The workmanship was excellent.
Description of Work: I had my deck extended with new decking for the whole deck. They replaced some lumber that had been installed incorrectly, too.

We were very excited to have found Home Craftsmen Network as they do a fantastic job with decks. They were prompt, very professional and cleaned up after themselves as if they were never here in the first place. We were also very satisfied with the estimate they had given us and will recommend them to our friends.
Description of Work: The men installed a 32x12 foot pressure treated wood deck taking about 6 full days to complete the job. Also included in their design were rails and two stairways. All used material and garbage was taken away by them.

BEWARE! BEWARE! A real horror show: A bathroom exhaust fan vent that they installed leaked so much in the first rain that we had to replace and paint the ceiling. They did fix that, though. Next the porch roof leaked and continues to leak to this day. I have tried with no success to get them to repair this roof, but as you can see from the pictures, all they did was throw roofing tar around. This has gone on for about nine months now. I even reported them to the BBB. Not much help there, by the way. Just recently one of the dormers has started leaking and it has damaged the ceiling in my living room. All-in-all, this was a terrible experience. I might as well mention that their trucks leaked oil and stuff all over my driveway, and they threw hundreds of cigarette butts in my flowerbeds. They are slobs and very poor craftsmen. Also, their leader, Chris Seale, has no interest in anything other than getting a check. BEWARE OF THE HOME CRAFTSMAN NETWORK AT ALL COSTS!
Description of Work: They replaced roofing on 3 dormers and one porch roof.

The worker said it would take 7 days to do the job. He finished in 5. I now know why he finished so quickly. The new walls he built were crooked. The sheetrock was installed and finished badly. The pocket door had exposed internal workings. He didn't use trim to hide the rollers. The trim he used around the door was not paint grade, it was rough lumber. The new door he installed had pieced up trim on the outside. Two pieces were about four inches long. Also, the new baseboard he installed was also pieced in short sections. The overall job was sloppy at best. Finally, the last straw was when he sanded the sheetrock and didn't put up a plastic dust curtain. Everything I had was covered in dust. Everything the worker did has been redone or is in the process of being redone. The worst part of the experience was the fact that when I called the contractor to tell him what happened, he didn't believe me. He said his worker wouldn't do bad work.
Description of Work: Walls were removed to expand size of kitchen and bath. French door was removed in kitchen. Single door was installed in another location. Pocket door was hung in bathroom. The job included sheetrock work.
