Hancock Tree Removal Company

Mr. Hancock came out to do the estimate, which ended up being more than double the price of the voucher I had purchased, so I would have to make monthly payments for five months. He advised me to have the tree topped and implied that branches would probably fall soon and damage my roof. After doing some research on tree topping, I called him back with questions. He was not easy to reach. We scheduled a tentative time frame for the job to be completed. After several weeks during which I tried to reach Mr. Hancock, I was finally able to reach him. He advised that a piece of equipment had to be repaired and he wasn't able to schedule an appointment for the work to be done. After over a month of waiting for this job, that in Mr. Hancock's stated opinion needed to be done soon, I was fed up. I hired another company to complete it, for about half the price I would have been charged by Hancock. It was not necessary for the tree to be topped, nor was the situation as dangerous as had been portrayed to me by Mr. Hancock. I feel that Hancock Tree Service is an unprofessional company that attempted to gouge me to get more money. Their lack of responsiveness and followthrough is completely unacceptable. I would not recommend Hancock Tree Service to anyone.

All work was well done. I am very pleased. The only caution I would add is that they are so busy it may be weeks before they can schedule you.

VERY PLEASED with BEN JONES and the FIRST Hancock crew that worked at my home for 4+ hours in JUNE. They did a wonderful job and made fantastic improvements. This bunch were professionals who really worked hard to please and I was very happy with them. My neighbors were also positively impressed. In July I bought a second "Angie's List Big Deal" for Hancock Tree Service & learned that sadly Ben Jones was no longer with Hancock. I was shocked when the owner told me he was charging me $215 an hour and that my $199 "deal" would NOT even get me one hour of work. He said I would need to pay him extra $$ for the crew to work for an hour. Since my first $500 got me more than 4 hours of work to now be charged $215 for one hour of work was a huge increase. The owner, Mr. Hancock, seemed pushy and angry. It took from July until October to finally get his crew to my home to do the work. Although the work was done, I had the impression that this crew really did not want to be there and just wanted to do as little as possible and leave as quickly as possible. What a difference from my first experience which had been so POSITIVE!

Everything went very satisfactorily in my dealings with John Hancock. I was very favorable impressed with his process from the outset, beginning with a very professional initial appraisal of the worksite and through to his resulting bid, which I found very reasonable. I must admit that I wasn't the easiest customer to work with. Initially I agreed to let Mr. Hancock take his heavier equipment over my driveway pad, down a slope into my backyard. After some subsequent deliberation, I changed the plan of action, and asked that he bring all the cut wood up out of the backyard in a truck no larger than a pickup, and deliver it to the chipper which would be parked on the street. He readily agreed, with only a slight increase in price for (essentially) handling the cut wood twice. Since the date-of-service wasn't important to me, Mr. Hancock gave me a three day window of when his crew would be on-site and fulfilled him promise. On the say of the service, I left home at 11:00 AM to run an errand, and when I returned at 2:30 PM, the trees were all down, and all but one hauled up and chipped. By 3:30 PM all wood was hauled away, and both the backyard and street (where the chipping occurred) were as clean and clear of sawdust as if nothing had ever taken place. Only six inch stumps remained to mark the trees former location. The stumps were ground the following Saturday, and performed with an extremely impressive piece of equipment that was on self-propelled tracks, and that successfully ground the stumps to at least 18" below ground level. All of the obvious ground level roots were also addressed and the guys (unasked, and at no extra charge) took care of two extra stumps in my yard left from previous tree removals. After they were finished the surface was rough-raked back to grade, restoring the ground as well as could be expected after being ground with a 30" wheel. I was very satisfied by all facets of the service provided by John Hancocks' company, would use him again, and would unreservedly recommend his company to others.

Quick response to request for quote. Was slightly slower setting up time for service, but certainly within a reasonable time frame. Excellent clean-up and haul-away. Will use again.

Hancock did a wonderful job! Arrived at 9:00 a.m. and were completely done around 11:00, including cleanup. You would never know they were there except the trees are gone, and the yard looks GREAT!!! Very professional!

SERVICE MADE APPOINTMENT IN A TIMELY MANNER AND KEPT TO THE TIME AS SCHEDULED. AGREED TREES WOULD BE TRIMMED AND GUTTERS WOULD BE CLEANED. WORK WAS DONE, BUT HAD TO HAVE THEM COME BACK TO TRIM THE TREES FURTHER. TO THEIR CREDIT, THEY DID THIS WITHOUT COMPLAINT. ALSO HAD TO HAVE THEM COME AND DO GUTTERS THAT WERE OVERLOOKED. I WOULD SAY THE GUTTERS WERE CLEARED, BUT NOT REALLY CLEANED. ALL OF THIS WAS TAKEN CARE OF, THOUGH, SO OVERALL I WAS SATISFIED WITH THE JOB.

Someone came to look at the job and provide an estimate. However, including the cost of the deal, it was going to be $450, which is about twice what I had been quoted before. I would not have minded paying some more, but not that much. I have since had the job completed by someone else.

Their price was good, they were easy to get a hold of, and they cleaned up very well; they raked the yard and everything. They were very good.

I called Action, Lancaster, and Hancock and left a message for all three. Hancock was the only one of the three to call me back, and he did so in a timely manner. Hancock was also able to make an exception and arrange the estimate for after work hours which I greatly appreciated. The estimate was good and he also honored the 10% Angie's List discount. He made it back a week later to do the job just as promised during the estimate. They showed up in the morning and completed the job in a timely manner. John and his crew were all great guys to work with and the crew did an excellent job at cleaning up any and all mess that was made from trimming. I highly recommend Hancock for all your tree trimming needs.

John met with us on a Friday. He told us that the work could "probably be done the next week." The work was done the following Thursday. Hancock's terms and conditions state that work crews will arrive unannounced. This may be standard industry practice but it is not customer service-driven. My time is as valuable as theirs. Because I want to be home when the work is being done I would have appreciated a more precise time estimate. For example, he could have called Wednesday evening to let me know that his crew would arrive Thursday. I realize that things like the weather can alter estimates but I have received better, more specific estimates from landscape companies and roofers, whose work is also affected by the weather. Also, the owners of those companies have followed up by phone or in writing (email) asking if the work was performed to my satisfaction. This is professionalism that differentiates excellent service from average service. The two workers were pleasant and did a good job removing the trees. They were careful not to disturb plant beds or damage a fence. However, they started to cut down the wrong tree. Three trees were close together and two were to be cut down. Those two were clearly marked. This was simply inattention. It wasn't an earth-shattering problem but shouldn't have occurred at all. Cleanup was adequate.

It went great. I did end up needing to purchase a little bit of extra service. I had a lot of trees that were being worked on, so that wasn’t a shock at all. The young man – Ben, I believe - was very courteous and his crew came out and did a good job. They were done and gone after cleaning up and doing everything they were supposed to do. They were here working most of the day, as it was a bigger job. Everything looks great afterwards.

Mr. Hancock is a professional person. His company did the job that was promised, in a timely manner. They did a good job cleaning up before they left.

The work exceeded my expectations. Everything was done to my satisfaction, and in a timely manner. I am so glad to have found such a great tree service company and expect to use it in the future.

They responded fairly quickly to our call and gave us a detailed estimate of costs with various options available. After we selected the scope of eork we wanted they started work that week. The men they sent out were very professional and did the work in only one day including raking the yard and carrying off all of the trash.

MR. HANCOCK CALLED ME AT 7:30 AM THE MORNING OF THE 16TH AND SAID HE WOULD BE THERE THIS AM BETWEEN 9AM AND 9:30 AM. I TOLD HIM THAT I HAD TO GO TO WORK. HE WAS OK WITH THAT ,WHICH I APPRECIATED. WHEN I CAME HOME FROM WORK LATER THAT DAY, EVERYTHING WAS COMPLETED. THE GUYS DID A GREAT JOB, THEY HAULED OFF EVERYTHING,INCLUDING BRANCHES MY HUSBAND AND I CUT DOWN FROM BUSHES IN THE YARD. NOW THAT'S SERVICE! I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND HANCOCK TREE SERVICE. THEY ARE PROMPT AND FAIR WITH PRICING. IT DIDN'T EVEN LOOK LIKE WE GOT A TREE CUT DOWN WITH THE EXCEPTION OF SOME SAWDUST IN THE YARD. THIS WAS A BIG TREE. I DON'T WORRY NOW WHEN THE WIND BLOWS . WOULD ABSOLUTELY HIRE AGAIN.

John was able to come and quote the job with in a few days of my request. However due to weather and current jobs in front of me it took about 3 weeks to get them on site. That was not a problem for me because it was not urgent. John called and gave me a window of time that the men would be here today and they were! Four men in company trucks and company shirts showed up and got to work. They were nice and had good spirits about them. They worked hard in the hot sun and never complained or used any foul language or displayed any bad body language either. I was very pleased with them. When they were finished cutting and shredding trees, they done a real good job doing the cleanup as well. They picked up the small branches, racked the leaves and smaller debris up, gathered it into their own trash cans for disposal and then used a blower to get the finer material and dust off the driveway! Thanks guys! I would highly recommend them and will use them again if I need their services!

Provider sent a crew of three out to remove tree branches. They were personable and easy to work with, and checked with me several times to make sure I was satisfied. They took extra care not to let my dogs out, which I appreciated. Also cleaned up the yard when they were done. My issue is with the cost - I thought it was a little high compared to my regular tree guy, so I will most likely return to using him in the future.

Very happy with the service. Price was very reasonable for the large amount of work done. Took a little longer than originally planned, but I figured they were a bit aggressive in stating they could do the large amount of work in 2 days. Did a good job overall of cleaning up after themselves and leaving the area clean overnight

The guys that cut the tree down were very careful .. Did a good job. The only thing was they ran out of time when they cut the tree down and was to come back. I called Ben (he was the person that came out and looked at the job) and he said they would come back but I could not get in touch with him. I finely got in touch with the owner and he got the job finished up. Would use them again.list

This is the first time I have used Angie's List. Great! Hancock Tree Service responded the same day,actually within a half hour and quoted me on removing the tree branches and a cost for trimming this tree and another similar one. It was $225 for the removal and clean up and $250. each for the trimming. The fist job was done the same day Friday 7-5, and the two trees were trimmed and all cleaned up by noon on Monday 7-8-2013. Very efficient, professional, courteous, and to me, reasonable. I have already recommended them to a fellow worker.

It went very well and I was very pleased. I sent John a text at 10:00 Sunday night, after the storm, asking him to call me as soon as possible . He returned my text with a phone call right away. I wasn't expecting a call back so soon because of the time but naturally I happy that he called. And again, because it was such a short notice, I didn't expect to be able to have them out the next morning. But none the less, he said they would be there first thing the next morning, and they were. Right on time, bright and early and ready to work. They immediately got to work and had all the trees cut down, cut up and disposed of, and had the roof cleaned off by the early afternoon. There was no wasting of time with them - they worked hard until the job was done. Neither did they leave a mess as they came prepared with brooms, rakes, and blowers to clean up the debris when finished. They come prepared to do the job right, efficiently, and safely. They are very professional, courteous and respectful of you and your property. I find them to be very reasonable on their pricing and honorable to such as well. There isn't any hidden surprises with them. Hopefully, I will never need their services for another emergency such as having trees on my house but I will be using them again for any future tree maintenance work. I believe that they provide excellent customer service and go above and beyond others. They are trustworthy and I highly recommend them to anyone.

The job went quickly, thoroughly and was exactly as I wanted it.
