Description of Work: I spoke with Ben, an employee of Eddie Sanford. He seemed very interested in helping us redesign the front of house installing 3 new windows. I emailed him 3 photos of the front of our house. After 3-4 days, I called and left a message for him to call me back. There has been no response after a week of waiting. If this company offered to do the work for free, I would not accept the offer. I do not trust them. If they do not want to work with me that is fine. I understand they have choices to make. They should have the common courtesy of informing me of that decision. Eddie, please coach your employees to be more courteous.

I thought the initial meeting to review the project went well. We are interviewing and receiving estimates from a number of contractors as the scope of the remodel was significant. The company appears to have done some quality work and have gotten some deservedly good reviews. One concern that I had in the initial meeting was that he was quick to say that his allegiance was always to his vendors and not his customers. He went on to enumerate a number of reputable local vendors that he would expect us to deal with exclusively. I think those vendors listed would be good to work with but not exclusively. Nevertheless, follow through with an estimate never happened - this is where the rating for punctuality is derived. I nstead, I was contacted almost three weeks later - purportedly due to Thanksgiving holiday and other work to oversee ("With the Thanksgiving holiday following my visit to your home and our current workload, I fell behind with my estimates. I am way past tardy responding to you. I apologize for this."). Not punctual - his words, not mine. I reported that in that period of time we were moving forward but would still consider a proposal, if he wanted to get one to us. He wasn't the only contractor to bow out and we have received a number of excellent and mindful proposals.I felt like if he wasn't interested, he could just say so. Here is where the rub comes and why this review is being posted. The next day I received an email enumerating 5 concerns that he had with the project. First, he said they couldn't meet our time frame. That's honest and he could have left it there. However, he went on to indicate that lack of involvement with his designers was problematic ("We normally work with our designers on projects like yours and it appears you will be doing your own design work."). I suspect this was a larger concern based on our initial meeting although we never said that we wouldn't use them. He went on to express concerns with working with my spouse, the number of other potential remodeling jobs within the project (which you would think might be a good thing...) and the amount of money that these might projects might involve. I found the response offensive in many regards and simply an excuse for not communicating with us in a more timely manner. He further went on to say that perhaps Angie's List or the Home Builders Association would be a place to find a lower cost contractors ("There are possibly several better suited and most likely lower cost contractors that you can find on Angies List or by contacting the Home Builders Association."). i thought this was strange as we came up with his contact information through those resources. The response came off as though he was saying that his work work was superior to those other contractors found on Angie's List and had assumed that we were simply looking for the cheapest possible job which is the farthest thing from the truth. Of course, we won't be moving forward with this contractor. Again, I cannot speak to the quality of the work and still assume that the job would have been completed in a masterful fashion. The lack of communication and follow through are a real concern as are the finger-pointing and assumptions that were made in regard to the project without contacting us. If he were really interested, he could have simply picked up the phone and giving us a call to discuss any of his concerns. This all goes to credibility.
Description of Work: We met on site at our home for review of project(s) and felt that we had a good meeting. The vendor was candid that he had a design team that he would want to engage and particular vendors that he used. He left and said that he was interested in the project and would get an estimate to us immediately. He was punctual for the initial meeting.

Response from G.E.S. Custom Remodel L.L.C.
We apologize if our response and timing was not to your liking. We always strive to be truthful with every prospect. The review speaks for itself and it is unfortunate that our feedback apparently hit some nerves. It does however provide further evidence of why we declined the opportunity to give an estimate. We could tell that we did not align with your expectations or plans and we could have certainly declined without providing feedback. The feedback we provided was intended to help you moving forward. We could not see that the amount of work requested would be equitable to the value of the home. We are always looking for prospects that we can work with and we felt that this project was destined to have an unhappy ending and therefore we bowed out. Again, we apologize that you seem to have taken offense to our candidness. We wish you well. Sincerely, Eddie Sanford
We were happy they accepted the job. GES began our project ahead of schedule which was a happy surprise. They coordinated the painting, the hardwood refinishing, and the tile work for the backsplash. They installed our baseboards and trim, hung all new doors, mounted ceiling fans, and reworked our air return. Their carpenter who completed most of the work was professional, willing to discuss options, and very skilled. Our project ran a little behind but they made up for it with the quality of workmanship. I would recommend them!

Eddie's company, in addition to remodeling, does Retrofoam insulating which we didn't need. However he sub-contracted with another company to have Fiberglas insulation blown into our attic which was sorely in need of additional insulation. Started with 6"-9" and less in some spots and brought it up to over 13" and increased the R-value from R-11 to R-38. I'm sure this will save us a lot on our heating bill in the cold months. We had company over the weekend and the crew managed to do the job without disturbing us at all. Eddie was excellent about keeping us informed of scheduling and we would certainly recommend him to anyone.

Eddie and his crew were extremely responsive as we had only a few days to respond. The sale of our house depended upon completion in a short timeframe. They made the repairs necessary, but upon evaluation of some items, documented that no repair was necessary as the items were adequate and fully functional. We couldn't.t be more pleased!

The labor cost was 34000.00 and we spent another 29000.00 on quality materials. Eddie Sanford is the owner and he came to our home and gave us an estimate which was highest of the 3, but we decided to go with him because it appeared he would do a quality job. That is exactly what we got. It was worth the price. Kevin was the guy who did most of the work and Ben was around a lot to supervise and help when needed. They were all very punctual and cleaned up the area when they got done. They did their best to accommodate us so our routines would not be interrupted, as they started work in October and finished in January. They did a lot of little things you would not expect, such as putting all new hoses on the washing machine as they had to move it to install the tile floor. They even put a plastic tie on the water waste hose to insure it didn't accidentally become dislodged. They were very responsive to any questions or requests we had. After the work was done, they have come back whenever we found something needed adjusting or fixed. Overall I am absolutely happy with my new baths as is my husband and with the job Eddie and his crew have done. I highly recommend them.

We want them to call us whenever they need anything. Thank you for the kind words as we will pass them along to our staff. Eddie

Eddie and everyone who works for him are extremely competent, and they care about what they're doing. They clearly want a good result, and they wanted me to be happy. Eddie is very thorough when quoting a job and so his price was higher, but there were no surprises. I want to know what it's really going to cost before I start a job, and I want somebody who's going to stand behind his commitments. Eddie does that. You can trust him to do what he says he'll do, and do it well. Everybody that Eddie employed or contracted with was a pleasure to have in our home. That's really saying something.

[member name removed] became a friend early on and even though his home is one our more challenging projects, we've always seemed to work well together. When Clients like [member name removed] have realistic expectations, then it makes for a smooth process. We appreciate Clients depending on us to manage their homes with them. When he calls...we try to jump through whatever hoops we need to to solve his requests. Last time I checked we had completed over a dozen job phases for this Client and we look forward to helping out more.
Eddie is a pleasure to work with. He understands the importance of communication to the success of a project. He and I met several times to refine the scope and goals of the project. We met with his team before construction stared to go over every detail of the project, so everyone involved, including us, understood the plan and how things were going to proceed. Ben and Jeff did most of the actual work and I can't praise them highly enough. Once work started, they were consistently at our house working. If plans changed because of weather (snow, ice) or because of a delayed material delivery, they kept us in the loop. And they do quality workmanship. Also, Eddie made sure that the rest of our house was protected from construction dust and possible damage from construction materials going up and down the stairs. The project was scheduled to take 6 weeks, but took 8 because of those weather and material delays. It was obvious to me that Eddie loves what he does and he knows the right people to help him get the job done well. He has a great eye for tile layout, and general aesthetics of design. Although Eddie's cost was about $25000, the materials (tub, tile, shower fittings, glass, etc) were another $13000, so total cost was about $38,000. Overall,we are very pleased, both with working with Eddie and his team, and with our new master bath.
Description of Work: Extensive remodel of a large master bathroom. Removed garden tub and made that area a glass enclosed shower, installed pedestal tub. Re-configured old shower space and existing water closet to enable w.c. door to open into water closet. Installation of 2 custom made linen cabinets. Tiled shower and floor, with radiant heat under floor tile, installed crown molding. Installed 2 new windows inserts, and a rain-glass waterproofed double-pane window in shower. Installed 2 new bath fans.

Every project and client is unique and we are very fortunate to have great clients. This Client, by far, was probably one of our easiest clients to work with. A few of the custom details required extra patience on both our parts. She never got flustered and that just made the job that much more enjoyable. Its easy to please people who are already happy people to begin with. This couple made our work that much easier. Its normal to have days when you just wished the job was over, that was never the case with this client. I hope we get to help them again in the future.

All went well. Even though it is not fun to live through a renovation, especially a kitchen/laundry room Eddie made it is good as possible. He spent much time in protecting the rest of the house from dust, dirt, and destruction. They built a dust wall to seperate our living area from the construction, put down heavy duty protection for the tile floor in the kitchen as well as the wood floors. They ran a HEPPA filter to reduce dust and drapped other room in heavy duty plastic sheeting...even leaving a walkway so our dog could get out to her back yard garden. His crew was prompt, clean, informative, professional, and as fast as the job would allow. They cleaned up ever night after they were finished, stayed as long as the job needed and communicated very well. The job was completed in December 2013. UPDATE; On Jan.8, 2014, after the polar freeze in Knoxville a neighbor called us while we were vacationing in Florida to report water pouring out of our garage. We we 750 miles away and called Eddie in a panic. Eddie and crew were there the next day, before we could get a return flight home, and started the task of cleaning up after a broken water pipe flooded our and quot;newand quot; kitchen, laundry, living, and dining room. He has been a godsend in taking on this task. He is dealing with insurance, making repairs, get quotes, bids, submitting and resubmitting information to the adjuster always with the customer in mind. I am leaving Eddie in charge because he is doing much better than I ever could. I rely on and trust Eddie Sanford implicity. I cannot recomend GES and Eddie Sanford highly enough. But you cannot have him for a while, he is ours!
Description of Work: Eddie and his crew took down two wall that were blocking the living room from the kitchen and the dining room from the kitchen. They installed laminated beams in the attic space to carry the load of the walls that were removed. They removed the upper kitchen cabinets and reused them as base/wall cabinets in another area of the kitchen. They installed can lights in the celing, fabricated and installed oak threshold where the tile floor in the kitchen met the wood floor of the living and dining room. They reinstalled cabinets and quartz countertops.

[member name removed] really were disappointed when they learned their pipe burst over their new kitchen. Whew has just removed our lock box just weeks before as we had completed their kitchen remodel. State Farm was great to work with and we able to settle their claim quickly. It was a difficult situation but we worked together to make good decisions efficiently. We really could not have asked for better support from a client. There have been a few times we worked for clients because we had to. We worked for the [member name removed] because we wanted to! They are just great people.

One of the things that I really like about Eddie and the GES crew is that when they tell you they're going to be there at a certain time, they're there. It's amazing how flaky some home services companies are, but not GES. We had a need for a custom-sized chimney topper that had rusted out since the original contractor on the house went the cheap route and didn't use quality materials. GES measured the opening and then custom fabricated a new topper that looks far more robust and secure than anything else in the neighborhood. GES is always my go-to team when I need something done right. I recommend them without qualification.

The experience was very positive. They were very good, came when they said they would, seemed very thorough in getting their information to get the bid, but I didn't like the format of the bit presented. It was broken down, but it was a bit strange. In the end they had added an over heading profit instead of everything built in it. They were friendly, punctual and can be very extensive in the knowledge of what they have to do. I will use them again in the future.

Well it's nice when even people we don't get to work for recognize our level of professionalism. We try our best to advise Clients and Prospects alike. Our first goal is not to make a sale, but to be openly honest with our understanding and pricing of the job. Ges was the contractor for our kitchen remodel. They came to the house during the design phase to discuss some issues. Then they--or he, because Gil was usually the worker--removed a wall, removed appliances, and changed plumbing and electric to accommodate the design. Cabinets and new appliances were installed. Installation of a range hood turned out to be a challenge but it was done very successfully. Gil was always there when he said he would be. He kept the job clean which was important because we have an open floor plan. Gil worked well with the subcontractors who did the floor and tile work. He was always respectful and pleasant to have around the house.

The most important thing I want to pass along is that Eddie hired the most competent people to get each aspect of the job done. They all brought knowledge and experience to the job and were just a pleasure to have around. They took good care not to injure the parts of the kitchen, like the floor that we were not changing. Eddie was always easy to get in touch with either by cell phone or by e-mail, which at times really helped. Eddie was always there to offer his advice as we all of our decisions. If he did not know an answer he always seemed to know where to turn for one. As this was the first big project we have ever done, this was very important to us. He gave advice whenever it was needed, but allowed the kitchen to remain our image of what we wanted it to be. He stuck close to his estimate. The pricing was good for the quality of work, we are just still a little shell shocked. The price was high because of the price of the components we picked, we wanted quality.
Description of Work: We had new cabinets made which Eddie installed after taking out the old. He oversaw the installation of sink, faucet, countertop, garbage disposal and new stove. We also had a lot of electrical work done, which included bringing us up to code as well as adding lighting. He oversaw having the gas line brought up to our stove.
