Description of Work: Contracted to remove a fence and dig a swale for drainage. Service was punctual, they were busy when I contacted them so the owner was honest enough to request that I remind them closer to the date we had agreed upon. They provided very skilled equipment operators, got done on time and provided good advice on how to follow up on the work with maintenance. Excellent service.

Description of Work: came out for a drainage issue after heavy rains in Knoxville. He was great. Told me what really needed to be done for it to really take care of my drainage issues. He was upfront and very courteous. I could not afford it. No problem, he was very informative and a nice guy. I used another service and nowhere near this experience. WHen I can afford that french drain I will call him. He spent 45 minutes and didn't charge me. Nuf said.

Description of Work: After heavy rains we had a problem with standing water on the lower patio and water coming into the downstairs playroom. The measures we took just were not enough and it was finally time to get a professional crew in to evaluate the situation. Mr. Sneed came out with two of his men and evaluated the entire back yard and told us how and what he would do to fix the problem. They started the job and worked through the weekend and on Monday in the pouring rain. They are professional, so pleasant and so easy to work with, it was a pleasure having them here. And problem solved. They knew exactly what to do and how to go about doing it, including leveling out some ground that was a bit higher in certain areas which didn't help the water to drain. No one else ever noticed this problem. They moved play equipment and several other things back and forth, and had to deal with a very friendly dog who thought they came especially to play with him every day. I would have this crew back any time and highly recommend them to others. They do more than just drain and excavating work too. So good to know people that care about their work and complete it on time, charge reasonable rates and are so nice to deal with.

Work started on time on the day promised. They removed the entire old driveway and put down new gravel on Thursday. Came back Friday and built the required forms, poured new concrete, and completed the work. As promised, a two day job, done on time! We had to stay off the new concrete for 3 days to allow it to harden sufficiently, which we did. When they did the new concrete, they even added texture to the concrete along with a smooth border, adding time to the job, and something I did not expect. I was VERY pleased with the work. The job was done exactly when they said, at the exact price quoted up front, and even added more than I anticipated. I can highly recommend this company to anyone needed excavating/concrete work done.
Description of Work: Had a small sinkhole in one end of the existing concrete driveway, and extensive damage from tree routes at the other end. Entire driveway needed to be replaced requiring all the old concrete to be removed, new concrete to be put down.

Called to ask for an estimate. Came out right away. Set time and date to do the work. Was here exactly when he said he would be. (even a little early) Did a great job. Called the next day to make sure I was happy with the work. Very courteous and professional. Easy to work with. Would use him again and will recommend him without hesitation.

We needed to correct a persistent moisture problem in the basement of a home we just bought. We had gotten a quote from another excavator and called Country Boy Excavating (Joshua) based on reviews on Angie's List for a second opinion. Joshua was very prompt in returning my calls (throughout the whole process) and came that day or the next to look at the project. I was immediately impressed at how courteous and pleasant he was, which fit exactly with what I had read about him from other reviews on Angie's List. As we talked about what we needed, I told him we were having a giant magnolia tree in our front yard removed by another company. He said he could do that as well, for more than $100 less than the other company. At the end of our meeting, he told me it would take him a couple of days to put the estimate together, and told me when he would e-mail it to me. He sent it on time, and I appreciated that it was a more itemized estimate than what we had gotten from the other company. Being a detail-oriented person, I liked that. His quote, minus the tree, was in line with what the other company gave us, but we saved overall because of the cheaper price on the tree. However, even within the first day of work with Country Boy, I was so glad we chose them! Joshua alerted me that they would be dropping off some equipment in our yard, which they did a couple of days before work started. I joked to friends that it was our very expensive lawn ornament! The morning that work started they brought more large equipment and a dump truck. After checking the markings for all of the utilities, removing the magnolia was the first order of business. This took several hours as Joshua would take "bites" out of the tree with the claw of the excavator. It was amazing to watch, and I was very impressed with his finesse with the excavator. I was a little nervous when he did the portion overhanging the house, but he was extremely skilled and took down the limbs with absolutely no impact on the house at all. For the portion posing the most risk to the house, he was suspended with rope from the arm of the excavator and he used a chainsaw to cut the tree while his work partner, Leon, operated the excavator. The tree was even more massive than we realized, filling up two dump truck loads. It was good we had planned to remove it rather than just trim it, as they discovered it was diseased all the way to the stump. Digging out the stump itself took more than an hour of digging to get the biggest roots and getting chunks of the stump. I can sum it up with "Wow!" Hopefully I can figure out how to post pictures of it. At our request, they also removed two skinny but tall holly trees up next to the house, which was not included in the original scope of work. Next was digging around the house down to the footers. This part was much more extensive than I realized as they moved all the dirt for a trench around the house and across the yard out almost all the way to the street. After excavating, they pressure-washed the concrete block in preparation for waterproofing it. They let it dry and then applied thick, tar-like waterproofing material. After that dried, they put up a protective board against the wall to keep anything from puncturing the waterproofing. They then put a bunch of gravel in the bottom of the trench and installed a "socked" French drain. This has slits in it so that any water that rolls down the wall will go into it, but has a mesh covering all around it to prevent the slits or drain from becoming clogged by dirt or debris. The two downspouts in the area of work are tied in to a separate French drain (with no slits) so that the water coming down them will be channeled away from the house, and not go down by the foundation. The two drains run the length of the trench, finally exiting almost to the street, probably 40 feet away from the house. The trench was then backfilled and the ground was gently sloped away from the house. Joshua and Leon then raked and removed the large tree roots and trash from the yard and smoothed it out. The final step was seeding and strawing the lawn where it was so torn up. The amount included in the estimate for that part was one part that was absolutely worth it! We found that Country Boy went above and beyond in many situations. They charged us only the originally-quoted price, despite the extra work that they did for us, as they didn't have to use as much waterproofing materials as he estimated. When they were doing the final walk-through with me at the end of the job, one of the guys noticed a gas smell. They took the extra time to check it out and identify the source of the gas, which was a valve on the main gas line to the house which had been turned on in error when someone else was lighting the hot water heater. I appreciated that they took the time to address something that was not part of their work, nor their fault, but simply to be nice guys. :-) They were patient as I dealt with other workmen and had a bit of delay in getting them their check that day. We were pleased in every way with Country Boy Excavating and the work they did for us. We recommend them without hesitation. In fact, just a week or two after our job was completed, my sister used them for a job at her home, based on our positive experience. Country Boy Excavating is versatile, doing more than just excavating, so if we have other projects, we will be calling them again. I'm so glad we used them and can't imagine a better experience!
Description of Work: Removed an extremely large magnolia tree and stump and two holly trees; excavated to the footers around part of the house; waterproofed the excavated portion; installed drain pipes, directing the water far away from the house; backfilled dirt and graded it; and reseeded lawn.

Country Boy did a great job. From beginning to end. When our home flooded due to some locally heavy rains, he identified the problem, created a solution and then executed his plan taking unforeseen obstacles in stride as they arose. The new french drain system was done professionally and quickly. The crew was as careful as possible not to cause any damage. We highly recommend this company and will use them again if the need comes up. Mr. Sneed definitely knows his business.
Description of Work: Mr. Sneed and his associate excavated the land away from our back wall down to the foundation of our home. They removed the old drain pipes that weren't working, pressure washed then re-applied the water-proofing and the water-proof board, laid a new french drain system, graveled, and put all the dirt back, then re-seeded and hayed the area affected by the large equimpment. They also took out three trees and a stump whose roots were compromising the proper drainage of our steep yard. They did a re-grade of our swell to stop as much ground water from reaching our back wall as possible. The pricing was fair and the estimate and the final cost were completely in line for the work done.

On calling Mr. Sneed, he emmediately estimated work I wanted done; however, he had a better idea on designing. The work started within a few days, and was finished within a month; however, one cannot work, or pour concrete when it's raining so much, but Mr. Sneed, and helper Tyrone Wells, and their crews were here working very hard. I am very happy with the work all these men did; and too, if I ever need concrete and excavating work done again, I would not hesitate to call Country Boy Excavating again.

Professional, professional, professional. Josh was great! He came out about a week before the project on a Saturday to meet with us. He called due to a small problem to say he would be 15 minutes late. He was on time or always informed me if he would be late. He completed the project on time and was wonderful to work with. The estimate for the services was $1500, but after he started working told us it would be less. I am new to this area but I know in where I lived before that this doesn't happen much. The cost was $600 for the excavation and $280 for the gravel. I just can't say enough about how good he is. USE HIM!!! You won't be sorry.

Josh went to look at the job sight the day I contacted him, and then met with us the same day. He had a estimate the next day via email. We met the next day and he showed us pictures of prior work and references. Josh was very professional and worked with us on staying within our budget. Within 3 days after we signed the contract they were clearing the lot. The finished product was awesome. Our realtor was so impressed she took his name to use for any other lots that her people might need clearing. Josh and his whole crew were very professional and super easy to work with. I plan on using him in the future for other work I will be having done.
Description of Work: Cleared the under growth and ground cover on a 1 acre lake lot. Josh used a large mulching machine, so there was no hauling away of cuttings. All clearing was mulched back onto the lot.

I would recommend Josh for any excavating and tree work you may have. Josh is just a good ole country boy like the name says.

He showed up for quote. I was impressed with his plan and price. Once the work started, I could see he clearly had a better plan than the other estimates. Once I scheduled the work, he was on time, worked very hard, and had the commitment to overcome challenges. His employees were top notch as well. Certainly keeping his number for anything in the future.

The entire property slopes down as the house has a walk out basement and tuck-under garages therefore the job was a bit of a challenge to carve out the earth and have it blend and drain properly. Country Boy Excavating did a precision job and it turned out beautifully. He was punctual, professional, and worked very efficiently. His budget and time frame were reasonable and he completed the job within both. I couldn't be more please with how the job went and what the outcome looked like. He even went the extra mile to touch up some uneven gravel on the driveway that was comepletely outside the scope of his work. I would recommend Country Boy Excavating to anyone.
Description of Work: Dressing and leveling a barn pad, creating a place to park my truck and trailer as well as tying it all into my existing drive.
