Cantrell was a great company to work to replace the HVAC unit in our home. We talked with 7 or 8 different contractors, but decided to go with Cantrell because of the value-for-money and great customer service/communication. We have an older house and Bradley's team did an excellent job making our ductwork and new system clean and tight. They installed a higher efficiency dual-fuel HVAC. Good and honest folks that will do right by you. They show up when they say they will and go through multiple estimates to find what works best. We will continue to use them for future work. Would definitely recommend!

After I chose them for the job, they came out the next day and completed it in about 4 1/2 hours. I cannot be more satisfied with there work and professionalism. AAA+++ Couldn't be a better group to deal with, from the service tech who came out and discussed my need to the installers to the tech who tweaked the system and replaced a slightly whiny motor. Everyone was totally affable, professional, and responsive. Initially, the new thermostat wouldn't work. They immediately went and got another one, but it didn't work either. Turns out we had some funky wiring that had been spliced in such a way as to not be fully functional. They quickly then diagnosed the situation, tracked it down and repaired it, and the thermostat works perfectly. When the initial installation proved a little noisy (a high-pitched whirr), they come back out almost immediately, adjusted it and replaced the motor--no problem and no questions asked. Thank you, Cantrell. We really appreciate you all (Brian, Sam, Bradley, Jeff, and Chad). Btw, I got an Amana system, which has the best warranty in the business and the only one with stainless steel heat exchanger. Really like it and the super-cool HP Wifi programmable thermostat. The fan recirculation option (runs about 1/3 of the time even when there's no heat or air) works perfectly in our 3-story house where the air otherwise stratifies considerably.

cost of part 150.00. time to replace 15 min. labor charge/travel charge 150.00. disappointment was that they stated free estimates and when we agreed to have the job done they charged for the mileage for the estimate and coming out to do the replacement. otherwise technician was professional and on time.

, ,Called Cantrell's in morning of 4/1/13 and they said they could come same day to check problem. Technician, Jeff, called back around noon and said he would be there in about 1 hour. He arrived on time and went directly to work. I had explained that I had replaced the thermostat due to fact that renter had installed an incorrect thermostat to try to fix unit. The unit still did not work correctly. The unit would not shut off sometimes. I thought it had to be a relay sticking. Jeff knew exactly which part was bad and had a replacement part with him and replaced it. He also checked out the wiring of the thermostat and knew where to hook up voltage wire to eliminate batteries in thermostat. He also checked out complete system and made sure it was operating at 100%. I know a little about fixing hvac systems but Jeff really knows hvac systems. He explained every he was doing and educated me as I watched him work. I am very happy that I called Cantrell's. I could have replaced the relay myself and hoped everything was working okay, but I am really pleased with Cantrell's. He had the part with on his truck and had the unit fixed and checked out in 1 hour. I also now know the unit is working correctly. It was worth every penny I paid for this repair. I also am very pleased with the technician, Jeff. He could answer every question I had and helped me understand the operation of the unit. I will definitely use Cantrell's again. The price of the service call was a bargain compared to the time it would have taken me to try to find parts and spending ten times the hours trying to fix the unit. I use the word "trying" to fix the unit because I could be wrong and my time would be wasted. It is great when your hire someone who does good work and knows what they are doing.
Description of Work: The heating system at a house my father owns was not woriking. I called Cantrell's to have the system repaired. Techician diagnosed problem and replaced defective part. Also checked complete system for wiring, refrigerant, thermostat, and correct operation.

They didn't know what they were doing. They were here for about 15 minutes and did NOT repair the problem or even look for one. Had they replaced the coil, they wouldn't have had to come back 3 times to keep filling freon and overcharging me. What a way to run a business. Too bad other people don't know that they are getting bad service. I researched it and confirmed this problem with another company and have never had the probem since. If they had of taken care of it the first time I would have been able to write a review on them. I had to find out what really was going on with the recurring problem first so that I would know what I was writing. Now that I know what type of work they do, I certainly would never call people that don't even take the time to look into the problem and just treat the surface without checking. They didn't even go up to the attic when the problem was. Bad, very lazy.
Description of Work: They kept refilling my freon when all along it was a bad coil that needed to be replaced. Replacing freon over and over when the coil is bad just keeps the guy coming back to do it again and thus make more money. This is reprehensible. The other company I called out after I figured out that repeatedly filling freon was doing nothing but costing me more money, found the problem right away, replaced the bad coil which was and hour and a half job plus the part. That's what they should have done the very first time they came out here! I should have called the BBB. Shame on you people.

Cantrell's was punctual and efficient. They showed up at the appointed time and quickly got to work. I asked their opinion about some of the duct work and they were generous with their time explaining to me what I needed to know. I would definitely recommend them to anyone and I will definitely be giving them a call when it is time to replace my HVAC system.
Description of Work: I participated in the TVA EnergyRight In-Home Energy Evaluation and then requested estimates from 4 companies on the TVA approved contractor list, including Cantrell's. Cantrell's definitely had the best price, but more importantly, a colleague had used Cantrell's last year and was extremely pleased with the work they did. That endorsement meant a lot to me. Cantrell's performed all of the duct sealing work recommended by the TVA Energy Evaluation.

Furnace went out at night and someone came out the next morning. Found the problem but had to go back to the company to get proper part. Was very late getting back to install the part because company sent him to another house with urgent problem. Overall, all went fine. Paid the technician and said an invoice would be sent but never was.

Our furnace stopped working one semi-cold evening. A phone call the next morning had a service technician at our house by that afternoon. They had the replacement part (faulty valve) in stock and the furnace was fixed by the following day by a second technician. Their promptness and quick service was stellar, during the week before Christmas, which is why they deserve an A overall. They charged us for 1.5 hours of work when it seemed more like 1 hour; however, we live at the far end of Knox County and the service was so prompt we were willing to pay it.
Description of Work: Diagnosed and troubleshot a natural gas furnace that had stopped working. It was NOT a dirty filter, but a valve required replacing. They had the valve in stock, and was replaced the next day.

An OEM part was not used and I feel I could have saved a couple hundred bucks to do it myself if I would have known they were just going to find a comparable generic part from something else.
Description of Work: Cantrell's came out to fix my broken A/C. Although they were prompt, knowledgable, and got the replacement part within 24 hours, it was a makeshift fix that was overpriced. They also did not direct bill my warranty company, which would have been nice instead of paying up front.

.We woke up Saturday morning to our air conditioning not working. I found Cantrell's on Angie's List and called about 8 a.m. They informed me that it would be mid-day before a technician could get there. I thought that it was great service to find someone that would work on a Saturday. The technician showed up on time and fixed the problem (bad contact switch). The technician also checked out the system and pressure. I thought that the price was very reasonable. Two hours later, the unit kicked off. I called Cantrell's again and the technician returned. This time it was just a fuse. They didn't charge me anything and the system has been running great ever since. As far as I am concerned, Cantrell's will have my business from now on.

Air conditioning unit went out last of May, we had been getting along with two window units, but record highs were forecasted. Needed an entirely new system, including the furnace. Cantrells came Monday, June 26, and gave an estimate, and installed it Thursday, June 28.

They charge a minimum of $98 dollars to come to your home to look at the problem and do labor, and if they do labor for more then one hour they charge $98/hour. My air conditioner fan was not running because of a bad capacitor. It took him only 7 minutes to replace the capacitor, and he charged me $98 for labor plus $38 dollars for the capacitor.

I spent atleast 30 minutes on the phone with this customer explaining our rates. I told him that it would be $98 beginnig with the first hour plus the cost of the parts.By the way, this was on THE FOURTH OF JULY and we don't charge anymore for a holiday. I told him that it would not be any less than $98 for the labor, he certainly had the option of calling someone else, he most likely would have waited days for service in 100+ weather and on a holiday. This is a very fair price for the service call, I have had many customers complain to me that they had to pay 3 times this for a capacitor from someone else and they have to wait days for a call. I called Cantrell's during this heat wave. They called back to keep me apprised of when I could expect a technician - would be the next day due to the enormous amount of calls they had received. Technician called in the morning and arrived within a couple of hours. He was very polite, friendly and helpful. Very, very nice and accommodating Completed job in about 10 minutes. Very fair price - added a discount. Very pleased with this company and will definitely use again and recommend to others.

We were experiencing no cool air coming from the ducts when the A/C unit would kick on. Changed all our filters of course and then looked to see what was up with the outdoor unit. The strange noise it was making determined that we needed professional help. I called Cantrell's because they had provided such quick and professional service on our furnace last year. It was 4pm on Thursday and the office said someone would call right away. It's still mostly open window weather in Knoxville so I said there was no rush just call my cell tomorrow when they were on their way and I'd leave work & meet them. The next morning a little after 10 I got the call.The super cordial service tech Jeff quickly established what the issue was and gave me a reasonable price for repair. He had the new condenser motor and relay in and cleaned the unit and tuned it up in less than 1.5 hours from his arrival.I will definitely use Cantrell's again!

The air conditioner is working great now. The price was adjusted to the correct amount and everything is back to normal. Nice workman (Randy)
Description of Work: workman was on time and filled my unit with the freon needed. They were here for about 15 minutes. I was incorrectly billed a huge amount until I called the office and talked to Pam who was nice enough to adjust my bill or I would have never used this company again. Apparantly they were on vacation and another office attendant put in the overcharge.

I used them twice after I found them on Angie’s List, and both times, their response time was really fast considering that I called them in the dead of winter both times. They did what they needed to do. One guy was here at about 9 o’clock at night. It was snowing outside, and he was out in the yard as cheerful as he could be. It was a great experience, and they will definitely be the company that I would use from now on. Their prices were more than competitive. I don’t have a lot of experience, but I thought their prices were definitely reasonable.

I called Cantrells around 9:00 am after discovering that my central air had frozen up, and was not putting out any cold air. The receptionist took my name, address and phone number, plus a description of the problem. Within 30 minutes they called back to say they would send someone that day. At about noon, the repair man showed up. He looked at the unit in the basement, then examined the outside unit. I told him it had not been serviced in 10 years, which was not correct. I forgot we had had it serviced about five years ago. He opened the outside unit and cleaned the coils using my garden hose and his spray nozzle. The water was quite dirty as is came out of the coils. He also scooped out the leave and dirt that had accumulated inside the unit. He then tested the freon level, saw it was low and added 2 pounds of R-22 coolant. He then tested the unit and found that it was cooling well. The bill $134, but with a 15% discount with my Angus list coupon, it came to $114. I was delighted with the promptness and the low cost of the repair. Unfortunately, five days later on a Monday, about noon, I noticed that the system was not putting out cool air, and the line from the compressor to the inside unit was again covered with frost at the inside unit. I removed the panel of the inside unit and saw that the evaporator was covered with about 1/2 inch of ice. I called to report the problem. The same repairman was here by late afternoon. This time he tested the evaporator for leaks. and found that the unit did have a leak. He estimated that it would cost at least $800 to replace the evaporator. He found a date on the outside unit was built in 1979, thus was as much as 32 years old. It is a Rheem unit and has obviously lasted much longer than is typical for such a system. I asked what a complete new system would cost. He said he would check that out and get back to me. He recharged the unit with R-22, and got the system cooling again. He measured the unit, and left to get an estimate for a new unit, and confirm the cost to repair this one. He called the next morning with the estimates. However, my partner wanted any new unit to be moved closer to the wall in the basement, and several other modifications made, which we had not informed the repairman of. He explained that the head of the company was out of town, and would get back to us on Friday, to come out, look at the modifications we wanted made and develop a revised estimate for that work. He did not return until Sunday, and he called us Monday. The brands Cantrell's carried were Amana and American Standard. I was not familiar with the latter brand, though I found they had at one time owned or been owned by Rheem, and I think of Amana as a kitchen appliance company. We decided not to wait for a revised estimate, and sought estimates from other heat and air dealers. After the second refill of R-22, the unit continued cooling for 15 days, freezing up again on the morning the new system was due to be installed. There was no charge for the follow-up visit or the second charge of R-22.
