Description of Work: The night the tree fell they sent out a man named Darius. He worked like a dog all night by himself and got my home secured. After that, things went downhill a bit. The job dragged on a bit but it all finally got done.

Description of Work: BKA replaced my roof after the tornadoes in Knoxville several years ago damaged it and did an excellent job so when a limb was propelled through my garage roof after this last storm, I called them. They evaluated the situation and had a roofer on the job within 24 hours. They were right on time with the first and second appointments and very professional. The price was more than fair for the work they had to do.

This contractor was recommended to us by a friend in the insurance buisness. We called and made an appointment for them to come and inspect and give us an estimate on replacing our old roof. The shingles had about reached the end of their lifespan, and were looking pretty bad. We made our choice of shingles based on Consumer Reports testing. We were given a price quote for the entire job and agreed to have BKA do the job. We made an appointment for a couple of weeks later, and were disappointed when no one showed up at the appointed time. We called BKA and they appologized and we were told that the job supervisor had left the company and there was some confustion with a new supervisor taking the position. We were told that the new man would contact us about a new install date. The next morning a truck pulled into my drive and I greeted the man outside. He seemed upset and immediately told me that I should have had all the cars pulled out of the way so they could get started on my roof. I told him I would have gladly done that if I had known that he was coming. At that point, he said he was sorry for his attitude as he had been told we would be expecting him at that time. I moved the cars and he brought in a big dump truck and the crew got started removing the old roof. I have seen many roofs being installed over the years and sometimes the crews look pretty scary. Not so with these guys. Although I could not speak their language, they were curtious and professional and worked really hard to get the roof finished. They really knew what they were doing. I was amazed to have the whole job including cleanup done in one day. The roof looks great and no damage was done to my many flower beds or patio or lawn. I expected to pay a bit more since I was dealing with a contractor and not the roofing company itself on a direct basis.
Description of Work: Removed old roofing materials and installed new felt, 30 year dimensional shingles, flashing, and continuous ridge vent.
BKA were extremely professional, and diligent. They were swift to respond to our worrying albeit small emergency and had a surveyor out the next day to take photographs and discuss damage and repair work. They came recommended by our home insurance providers and proved critical to an extremely smooth experience. Also, this eliminated the need for an insurance adjuster to also come and evaluate the scene. Any relaying of information and general communication was handled by BKA, and I needed only call should I had any specific concerns. The roof work was completed extremely quickly in the space of two weeks. Final completion was not until September 25th 2012 however this was due to uncontrollable circumstances such as our particular siding being out of production and having to be shipped in from Nashville after being specially ordered. In addition, it was proving increasingly difficult for BKA to find electricians who could obtain Knoxville City (as opposed to Knoxville County) permits. As soon as a team was found - the work was scheduled for four days later, and fully completed in around three hours in an afternoon. The only downgrade was in communication. As a homeowner we can get very anxious and want to know what's going on all the time. Whilst BKA were very quick to respond if I had called/emailed/sms - they could have elevated themselves to exceptional by providing a proactive status update once or twice a week without having to be prompted. In all other respects, the staff, logistics, paperwork, and quality of work done in an otherwise timely manner were all carried out to the highest standards and I would have no reservation in recommending them.
Description of Work: Gable roof repair, following damage by a nearby tree collapse. No structural work needed to be repaired - but surface and cosmetic in the form of roof shingles/underlay/ply board and soffit replacement. In addition, after the tree canopy fell alongside our house, gutter box/vinyl siding/electrical power panel were also included as part of the services rendered.

Upon accepting the bid by BKA Construction for the job of replacing my roof I told them that they could do the work as soon as possible. They came out the day after I called them to accept the job. They took two days to replace approx 1400 square feet of roofing. They took it down to the wood (upon inspection it was discovered that the orignal job did not put down tar paper as a base they put nothing down except the asphalt shingles). Rickey and his crew worked all day on both days and needed to come back to finish up some minor details and clear the yard. They did a very good job and I would highly recommend them to replace your roof and if it is ever necessary to do this again I would call them.
Description of Work: Due to wind damage to my roof it was necessary to have it replaced. My insurance company recommended BKA construction. I called them and Todd came out and gave me an estimate on the replacement. He was very timely and responsed quickly.

After enduring 3 days of huge driers and humidifiers BKA came back in to remove the cabinetry and pull up the floor. Until then we'd been dealing with one project manager. The new project manager, Cornell, first bad-mouthed the previous project manager and then put down BKA. He said his job was to personally supervise every step of the repairs. We made it clear we had 2 weeks to get it done; otherwise they'd have to stop for 2 weeks until we got back from vacation. He assured me the job would take no more than 7 days, from flooring removal to finishing. They assigned Fraser Floor to install the new floor. BKA failed to coordinate between Frasers, an electrician and a cabinet maker who were needed to remove the cabinets before the floor could come up, which resulted pushing the project's completion until after we got back from vacation. By now we'd been without a kitchen, sink or appliances for 2 weeks. When Frasers took the floor out, Cornell spent most of the afternoon sitting in his truck in the driveway while my husband stayed inside and supervised. On the day the floor was installed, Cornell stayed long enough to get them going and then left. The installers cut an electrical line while they were installing the floor (look for my Fraser's review!). Luckily my father in law was there at the time or we'd never have known about it. When I called Cornell, he knew nothing about it, and he passed the buck on to Bill at Fraser's. Bill said he'd been informed about it, but since the guys told them they'd fixed the wire he didn't think it was worth mentioning to me. I pointed out that a floor guy severed an electrical line - and then took it upon himself to repair it - and he didn't think it was worth mentioning it to me? Bill didn't say a word - just that he'd get an electrician to come out and do the work according to code. I called Cornell to update him on what Fraser's was and wasn't doing, and told him that I wasn't happy that he hadn't been there to supervise, like he was supposed to. He didn't say a word. I then reminded him we'd be back in 9 days from vacation so he could set up the finishing for the following week (week of May 7). We returned on the 2nd and found that he hadn't even scheduled the the finishing yet. (Frasers doesn't finish floors they only install them!) Cornell said he didn't expect it to be as busy as it was; everyone was booked and he was having a hard time finding anyone, etc. The electrical repair was made on a Friday. I called Cornell and asked him when the finishing would be done. The following Tuesday he called to tell me it wouldn't happen until the following week. I reminded him of the delays that occured as a result of him not having all parties standing by at the start, and suggested he be sure to have the movers standing by to take out our furniture and fridge and hang tarps in advance of the finishing. The following week Cornell and a buddy showed up to do the moving and tarp-hanging; he hadn't hired any professionals! I told Cornell the fridge handles had to come off the fridge but he and his buddy chose to force the fridge through the door with the handles still attached, rubbing finish off the door and onto the handles. They weren't scratched but it took a bit of elbow grease to get the stain off. It wasn't until after the job was done and I took the tarps down that I noticed they'd attached them to our walls with thumb tacks! I was in our yard when they'd moved the fridge and put up the tarps;; they could have asked me for help or told me they needed to get something to afix the tarps to the walls. Instead they chose to put holes in my walls. It wasn't until they were moving the fridge back in (10 days later) that I noticed a dent in the side of it. When I pointed it out toCornell, HE SHRUGGED HIS SHOULDERS at me- and didn't say a word! The floor finishers that Cornell found - Gregore's Flooring - were terrible (look for that review too). What should have taken 3 days to do took them 6. Cornell never took responsibility for his choice in using this company, instead turning it back on me because and quot;well you said you needed it doneand quot; - as if expecting the job to be done in a timely matter and by a competent company were absurd expectations. He sat in his truck when the floor was being finished (the first time), and again when the cleaners came in to clean the house a week later. When Gregore's screwed up the finish a THIRD time I called Cornell and told him I'd had it; the floor was going to be done and perfect when I walked in in the morning or he'd be talking to my attorney. The next day, it was finally done, and to our expectations. Cornell came to and quot;superviseand quot; the cleaners. He sat in his truck and didn't come back in my house until it was time to move in the furniture (which is when I noticed the dent in the fridge and he shrugged his shoulders at me). Again, he (and one of the cleaners) moved the furniture and fridge; not a professional. He was very cold to us. I got the impression he was pretty put out by me, because I was expecting a job well done after two months. I don't have a picture of the dent - luckily it's on the side of the fridge that's next to the cabinet, and we don't want to move it. to take a picture! But I do have pictures of the tacks, and on my review of Fraser's you'll find pictures of what the flooring guy did to and quot;repairand quot; my electrical. I would have expected by now to have received a comment card or followup call from someone at BKA but have not heard a word. UPDATE 8/27/2012: THE FLOOR IS CURLING UP! ONLY THE NEW PIECES THAT WERE INSTALLED, not any of the original flooring that was just restained and sealed.! We've been and quot;guaranteedand quot; it will be repaired in 4 days but have yet to have it scheduled. This means another 4 days (at least) in a hotel, our furniture and fridge removed again and more upheaval personally.
Description of Work: We discovered our new refrigerator had been leaking for several weeks when the wood floor started curling up. Our insurance company, USAA, called in BKA General Contractors to coordinate and oversee the repairs. BKA hired Frasers Flooring and Gregore's Flooring to do the install and finishing, and Broom Service to do the house cleaning. Cornell, our project manager, "supervised" the various stages of the work - by sitting in his truck.
