He arrived on time and was very professional and courteous. He always returned my calls within a short time frame and initiated calls to keep me updated on the progress when we awarded him the business. The quality of the work is excellent and the job was completed on time. I would definitely recommend this company and will use them again for other projects.
Description of Work: They excavated and poured footers, built a low retaining wall for a large concrete patio 32' x 20' and 13' x 12'. They bricked the retaining wall and built brick steps.

+ 0 moreWillie came to the house the day after I called him. When I seemed confused about just what he could do he offered to show me one of his previous jobs. When I saw it I was impressed about what he could do and hired him. He started the next day. The men who helped him with the work and his wife,were hard workers and pleasant. They first had to repair the concrete wall on the driveway before they could put on the new concrete. They were there every day thereafter until all the work was finished which included walls of the patio, lower wall of the house, pathway from the patio, to the driveway, the driveway, which was previously asphalt, and the floor of the car port. When I made suggestions, he was happy to comply and would often suggest other things which woud enhance the appearance. The end result has inspired many passers by to stop and comment on it's attactiveness. The price was very reasonable. He often did more than I could have expected, hauled away all the trash and I was very pleased with the job. I would highly recommend Willie.

Description of Work: I hired Willy to frame and pour a driveway. He gave me an estimate of $7000. When he came to start the job I asked if he had called to make sure the gas lines would be marked since he would be doing some excavating. We have a main gas line about 100 yards from our house so this is extremely crucial. He said that I would need to call them. So I did. I was told that the person doing the work should always do the calling. After gas lines were marked, Willy and his guys start the job. After excavating and framing was done (they dug up our sprinkler system) willy tells me that it will be another $7000 for the asphalt!! Ok, shouldn't that have been included in initial estimate???? Now we are at $14000. First load of asphalt was poured, second load was poured during a down pour of rain. Third and fourth load were then poured. We now have a multi colored driveway that looks so bad. Coming into the driveway there is a 6" drop off where they didnt transition the end therefore if your not careful you will drag out the under side of your car!! We had to go out of town for a few days. Willy said to call when we returned and he would fix the color of the driveway and apply a top coat and sealant. After several calls by my husband and I, he never called back. Willy, I paid you to do this and I have proof of it. The check I wrote included everything that you were to complete in the Memo. You cashed that check. I have the canceled check. The driveway is cracked, when it rains there are puddles everywhere, the gravel came to the surface and is chalky since it was poured in the rain. I could have sued you for destroying my sprinkler system! The least you could have done is come back and make this mess of a driveway rite!!!!! Kelley chambers

+ -1 moreThe work was done as contracted on schedule and on budget. The root was much larger than anyone imagined but the Baker team (4 of them) worked hard to get it up and out of the ground.
Description of Work: Willie and his crew removed a section of our concrete driveway that was damaged from a very large tree root. They jack hammered out the old concrete. An area equivalent to about 3 yards. They then removed the tree roots from the area, a very difficult task. They then formed the new area and brought in and spread gravel as a base. The concrete was poured a couple days later and finished perfectly. Willie and his crew were very professional the entire time. On one occasion he was scheduled to work but due to weather had to postpone and called to let me know that he was not going to be there as planned due to weather. This one act demonstrates his degree of professionalism. No other contractor would have taken the 2 minutes to call. If I have any more concrete work I will certainly call on Willie Baker.

+ -1 moreI called Willie Baker to see if he would be interested in constructing a concrete retaining wall in our cabin resort in Sevierville. Since he is a Knoxville contractor I wanted to make sure he would be interested. He called me back the following day ready to meet me at the sight the following day at 9:00AM. I took 2 hours off from work to drive down there only to be stood up by him. I called and left two messages on his cell phone which he didn't return. Needless to say I wasted 2 hours of my time and 75 miles of gas for nothing! I picked him because of his good Angie's list rating. Too bad this happened.

+ -1 moreI was not really happy with the final product, and everything was fine up until to that point. There is a depth in the driveway, where they forget to level it up, so now we have puddles. Other than that, everything was fine. They are nice and polite. Their price was fine. I would probably not use this company in the future.

+ -1 moreEverything went very smooth. Men were professional and on time. Removal went well. Install was completed in a day. Weather was threatening, so they brought in 7 or 8 men and laid 4 loads of concret. The ground was soft due to previous rain so the wheele barraled the concrete for the sidewalk. Will have these guys come back later this month to seal the drive.
Description of Work: Removed asphalt driveway and concrete sidewalk. Replaced both with concrete. I asked them to increase psi to 4000 vs 3500 which was recommended and add fiber to the mix along with the wire suport. Did both with minimal increase in cost. Had stability problem with part of the land. It was sliding down the hill. They offered what I thought was a good solution. They dug a 12' trench around the perimeter, put in rebar and sunk rebar vertically.

+ -1 moreThe workmen were on time, stayed busy, and knew what they were doing. The work went very fast except for weather delays. (I didn't expect them to try to pour concrete in a driving rainstorm in November.) I'm VERY pleased with the result.
Description of Work: I had another contractor build a handicap ramp leading to my front porch from my drive-way. Let's just say the work was not what I wanted. Baker Concrete demolished the ramp, repoured part of the driveway (that the other contractor had damaged), and built a new ramp and steps to my porch.

+ -1 moreWhen Willie came to estimate the job he was very prompt and helpful. He outlined a plan that would allow us to bring a level concrete slab from where the turning pad was, all the way to the house, while preserving the air vents in the crawl space, and sloping the concrete to carry water away from the house. We also have a concrete porch, with a brick veneer and brick columns, that has a section in the center that has cracked, sunken down some, and begun pulling away from the house. Willie explained in detail why these things happen, and what needed to be done to replace and to prevent the problem from recurring again in the future. We decided that our parking issue was top priority for now, but we will be calling Willie and his crew back to deal with the porch problem as soon as possible. During the work on the driveway, Willie's crew asked me if I would like to keep the dirt that they were digging up. I showed them a large sunken area in the back yard and asked if they would just dump their wheel barrows of dirt there, and that I would spread it later. On the day that the cement was poured, while they were waiting for it to set up, they went back there and spread the dirt for me!! I'm not young, and I was so grateful for that act of kindness. Willie has a hard working, great crew, and we're glad to recommend them.
Description of Work: Removed a broken section of concrete at the lower end of the driveway, and replaced it with a much larger 18' x 24' concrete pad for parking adjacent to the garage.

+ -1 moreI called Mr. Baker for an estimate on a Saturday; he responded the following Monday. Mr Baker drove to my house and provided an estimate within 2 days. Mr. Baker's estimate that was slightly higher than another, but while I was waiting for a further estimate, he called to lower his price (which matched the lowest estimate). He and his crew arrived on the day specified, set the forms, and arranged for the concrete to be delivered the next day. Mr. Baker added wire to reinforce the concrete slab and rebar stakes to reinforce the lip - at no additional cost. The work was completed on time and to my satisfaction, and his crew retrieved his forms the next day. Mr. Baker is personable and very professional. He made an effort to be helpful and did more than he had to do. I am very pleased with his work and am glad I chose him.
Description of Work: I had a concrete slab - 9' x 24' with a 6 inch lip at the end - added to the end of my driveway. Mr. Baker provided an estimate, set the forms, arranged for the concrete delivery, supervised the pouring and finishing, and shoveled the extra concrete into a washed out place under a corner of my driveway to give support (which was not part of the contracted work, was done without charge, and was greatly appreciated).

Wille came and saw the site where we wanted the walk poured and agreed to the phone estimate. He and his crew came the next day and formed, poured and finished that day. The walk looks very nice and we are very satisfied with the overall project.

I was impressed because several years ago I tried to get an estimate from several firms on some other work and no one would even give me a call back. Willie and his two person crew arrived on time and discussed the repair with me one more time. I stayed around because I was curious whether the slab had sunk or if a tree root had pushed the other slab up. It wasn't clear what the cause was. They even let me put a piece of pipe under the new slab that I can use to run cable or water pipe through later if desired.
Description of Work: A section of sidewalk leading to our front door was sunken on one end about 2 inches and was a trip hazard. Willie made a site visit at no extra charge, discussed the approach he would take and provided an estimate on the spot. They used a concrete saw to cut out sections of the sidewalk. They even cut these sections in half and preserved them for me to use as steps in another project. They formed the slab, added rebar to the exposed ends of the existing slabs to anchor the slabs together. They poured and finished the slab very nicely. They removed the forms and disposed of all the debris.

Description of Work: We expanded the patio size in our back yard. There was a weather delay, being spring time, but Willie called ahead to inform us. They framed it up on the first day, then poured it the next and it turned out great. We doubled the size of our patio and the price was the exactly the same as the estimate. Willie was friendly, knowledgeable, and trustworthy.
