Technician (David) called me before he left the office to give me an approximate arrival time. He was there within a few minutes of his estimate. He came in, put plastic covers on his boots so as not to track dirt/mud in the house, examined the sink/pipes and gave me an estimated price. I authorized him to complete the job. He was very coordial and explained what he was doing. The job was completed quickly and neatly.
Description of Work: Collar that connects bottom of kitchen sink to drain was broken and leaking. Technician replaced portion that was leaking.

Prompt, courteous, efficient and expensive. Pricing is done by predetermined book pricing like they do at the new car dealer for servicing your car. While this gives you an exact "estimate" with no overcharges to deal with, the pricing tends to be on the high side. Obviously, not being a plumber, you aren't sure what is involved until after the fact. I felt the charges turned out to be pretty high, over $100/hour with minimal parts expense to reseat a toilet and rebuild an exposed tub drain. I would probably look elsewhere in the future, or at least get a couple of bids. It's very much equivalent to taking your car to the new car dealership for routine service, in this case the Lexus dealer. While I checked NO on the use again box, I would have preferred a MAYBE box to check. Following is an update of services written 7/25/12. Basic toilet problem was leak in wax seal secondary to uneven tile floor and wobbly toilet. Problem initially repaired in what appeared to be an acceptable manor (I didn't watch him do it). After 5-6 months, toilet started wobbling again, then leaked again. While repair was within 12 warranty period, and I have no reason not to believe it would have been repaired without additional cost, I chose to do it myself. With a little research on the internet, I removed and repaired toilet myself. THE PROBLEM: Steve Huff plumber used folded up CARDBOARD to shim the toilet, which resulted in its premature failure. Everything I have read and in talking with a certified plumber indicate this is an unacceptablet way to shim a toilet. Cardboard doesn't do well when wet and it is compressible. Plastic shims, readily available, are the appropriate way to go. If this is an indication of shortcuts they take where you can't see the work, I don't feel I could trust them to do other repairs appropriately.
Description of Work: Re-seat a leaking toilet and repair a fully exposed bath tub drain. Routine scheduled visit.

Overall, the promptness of the service was excellent considering the tenants did not want to spend another moment without a kitchen faucet. The company had a high-end faucet available which they immediately installed.
Description of Work: The kitchen faucet at my rental property wasn't working and the tenants were washing dishes in the bathtub. This company was the only company of the three or four that answered the phone on a holiday weekend that were able to come the next day and install a faucet. The tenant called me back to report that the service person was very knowledgeable, prompt, and polite. Following the job, a company representative called to ask my opinion/satisfaction with the work and seemed genuinely interested in my response.

Kitchen sink drain line was clogged. The drain line is 2" PVC that runs about 45 feet, but only falls about 3 inches, so for a long time we have not used the diposal unit. Additonally, a house member had used a lye product in an attempt to clear the line; however, they put it in through the dispoal which ate up the seals and it now leaked profusely, so it also became part of the problem. Since we cannot really use the disposal, I opted to remove and not replace the disposal, however that necessitated some drain pipe modifications under the sink. Cost: $39.xx for the callout, $203.xx for the modifications and $245.xx for the cleaning.
Description of Work: Very responsive (30 min) and very professional, very good quality of work. These folks understand plumbing problems and have solutions. For the work needing to be done (clean 45 ft of 2" drain line and remove disposal) and 1.5 - 2 hours of work, I just thought that nearly $500 was higher than it should have been. But we needed the work done and were in a bit of a bind. I have called Steve Huff Plumbing before and will probably call again. Most importantly, we are now operational again and I am very appreciative of the service.

The "office/phone" personal were knowledgeable and up-front about pricing, as well as service time. The repairmen was clean, courteous, kindly, and concise on his estimates. Winner in my book.
Description of Work: The repairmen did a complete rebuild of the master bathroom shower faucet and divert-er. He was timely (early in fact, but he called ahead to make sure it was okay.) The repairmen (Nick) introduced himself at the door and put on disposable shoe covers, as though my house were mansion! He came in and proceeded immediately to identify the issue and give me several quotes and options based on the problem. The Problem was a leaking faucet that was running hot water! Costing me electric and water expense. Long story short, I have a 1980's looking single lever hot/cold/pressure control and divert-er that works like it was built in 2011 and functions flawlessly. Completed under time and slightly under quote. I also have the knowledge of: ALL workers being back-round checked; The company being licensed, bonded and insured; The respect and cleanliness towards myself ant to my home. The pricing did seem a bit steep, but I knew that going in and believe "You get what you pay for".

They charge a service fee of $65.00 for coming out but waive it if work it performed. But they always on time, call before they come and are in my opinion very professional. Their pricing seems maybe a little high but you definitely get what you pay for i believe. They do great quality of work and are on time and thats worth paying for.

I was very impressed with how quickly Steve's Plumbing responded to my call on Friday. Since I was out of town, I had to depend upon someone else to be at my home for the repairs. My husband thought the price was too high just to replace the inside fixtures of two toilets. The repairman showed up Saturday morning on time, was clean, courteous and knowledgeable. Because of the price, my husband would not like to use the service again, never say never, I'm always told. Thank you Steve's Plumbing.

Looking at the scores the member gave on Quality, Responsiveness, Punctuality, and Professionalism, she was more than happy with our service. As she stated, the job was well done and our technician was professional. The only failing grade she gave us was on price. Sending a tech that has been background checked and works for a Tennessee Drug Free Workplace company to someone's home comes with a cost that is part of the service we provide. We do this for the safety and security of our clients. As to the overall cost, not matter what you purchase, whether it is plumbing services or a car, there will always be some one, after the fact, that states they know where you could have gotten it for less money.

First of all the service technician , Chip, was punctual, professional and friendly. He inspected the main sewer drain in my house. I had been using a manual snake and water jet that I bought to try and clear the drain. He told me that he could use a camera to see what was causing it and I asked what the charge would be, he looked it up and said it would be over $300 for the charge. I then asked how much to use a powered snake and that would be $360 for 2 hours or 100'. If I wanted to use the snake and camera it would be $510. He also mentioned that this was not a guarantee to fix the blockage because the septic tank may need to be pumped. I told him that sounded extremely high and I would just pay the $49 fee for inspection. After he left I rented a powered snake for $32 and cleared the clog then called a septic tank service to have it drained for $165. What bothered me about this is I know how much this equipment costs, because I use similar equipment in my field, I also know that it is not cheap. However $250 an hour is ridiculous without any guarantee it will even fix the problem.
Description of Work: The services performed were only the on site inspection due to the high cost of cleaning or inspecting the drain other than looking at it.

Response from Steve Huff Plumbing
I first want to thank the member for speaking so highly of Chip and our company. We pride ourselves on being punctual and professional and treating our clients and their home with the respect they deserve. As the member said, the equipment to be used is very expensive and costly to repair. The use of this equipment is based not only on the purchase and repair costs, but also on the technician's time and training in the proper and safe use of it. The member says that he understands this cost because he uses similar equipment in his field of expertise. This, however may be an apples to oranges comparison, because the equipment the member uses must not be suited for the same type work that we do. I am happy that the member was able to get his problem resolved for the price he stated. But, is it truly fixed? A perfect drain line does not stop up. This is where the use of our camera system is important to clients. Without being able to see what's going on inside the pipe, clearing the line may only be treating the symptom of a bigger problem. With the camera we can see if the pipe is broken, collapsed or full of roots. We would rather fix a problem than have it be a recurring issue.

We called a couple of plumbing businesses we knew and received no answers. We then joined Angie's List and read about plumbers in our area with Saturday hours. Called Steve Huff plumbing and our phone call was answered, problem noted and promised help that day. The worker called soon to give an idea of when he would be there. He came as promised and he and my husband were able to move the new heater upstairs, old heater outside, and then he finished the job, testing the gas line for a good seal. He was very nice and very professional. We were thankful for the Saturday afternoon service, too.
Description of Work: Our second floor gas water heater rusted through and the drain pan rusted also. The water ran out through 2 floors to basement. We bought a new water heater and pan and removed old one. Needed someone able to (1) help move the new heater into place, and more importantly (2) make the electric and gas connections. AND, this was on a Saturday!

The technician was professionally dressed and acted in a professional manner. He looked at the problem and gave me an up front cost to make the repairs for my approval. I approved the cost and he proceeded to clean out the drain. In the process of cleaning out the drain, water emerged from under the commode. He had to remove the commode, replace the flange that attaches it to the floor and install a new wax seal. He tested all the drains to insure that there was no further backup. He did have a sewer line camera with him but he never used it. That is my only misgiving. He assumed that there was no broken pipe and that just a regular clean out of the lateral would correct the problem. Time will tell. I was a little surprised at the price. Seemed a little high for the amount of work performed.
Description of Work: The basement commode and shower began backing up after the house was not in use for 2 years. Called Steve Huff Plumbing and asked them to come out and determine what the problem was. They cleaned out partially clogged main drain line under the house with a motorized snake. They had to replace the flange and wax seal under the commode because it was leaking and the flange was rusted nearly off. Replaced cleanout plug near the washer drain.

The plumber was very responsive, arrived when he said he would. Very neat and tidy presentation, both in the truck he drove and in his demeanor. He did not have the replacement part and went to pick it up. Because Huff has a flat rate, this extra time did not cost me extra. I watched him work and he did things in a very professional manner. I remember the company as being rather pricey, but you know up front exactly how much things will cost--the plumber has a price book, and the plumber goes over it with you. There are no surprises. I had this work done several years ago and have since moved from the area, so I will not use Huff again. You can be confident in them, but you will pay for the confidence.

They did a good job installing the heater, but the temperature had to be regulated later on the heater, and they didn't explain this in a clear and concise way.

This was the second time we used this company, the first time being a water problem at our son's house. These guys responded quickly to our water leak problem, and then were able to recommend a more cost effective solution that addressed additional problems at a reasonable cost. Got it all done at once and now don't have to worry about when future problems will arise. They were on time, worked efficiently and provided good explanation of work done and why. They even added some additional parts over and above the bid and provided a two year guarantee.
