Company gave an estimate on Mar 5. They said it would be a week to ten days before they could start the job. Ten days went by and they did not call so we called them. They said they would be out on March 19. No one showed up and no one called. We called and were told the work crew didn't show up for work. We were told someone would be out the next morning. Still no show and we called again. Finally one installer showed up at 2 pm but had to leave at 4:30. This went on for 10 days. A 2 day job took 2 weeks! The company never called us to let us know what was going on. We always had to call them. The installer did a good job but we never knew when he would be here.

It didn't go at all!! I didn't hire this company to do the work. I found a handyman who did it for $150
Description of Work: I called for an estimate (1 of 3) to simply move a gate in my standard 4 foot chain link fence. The other 2 estimates were between $280-350 and they came to the house to do the estimate. Rio Grande didn't come to do the estimate, but told me on the phone that the minimum charge would be $450.. and it would probably be between $500 and $800!!! (I also had to call twice before I could get someone at the businees to respond to my inquiry. They didn't call back after the first call.)

I have a very busy work schedule so being home to meet contractors is never a trivial task. The estimator canceled my first appointment because it was raining and others had canceled their appointments with him in my area. So, I reluctantly agreed to reschedule. The second appointment arrived, I rushed home, changed out of my business attire, and started waiting. After the appointment was about 20 minutes late, I went into my house to get my cell phone. Much to my surprise, I had a message from the estimator from about 40 minutes earlier. In the message he stated that since I didn't answer my phone to confirm his appointment with me, he wasn't coming and that I could call to reschedule. I called him and insisted that he come as he had agreed which he reluctantly did. I accepted the estimate, made my down payment, and the material was ordered. About 4 weeks later, a worker shows up (a subcontractor I suspect), who got mad and left when he found the material wasn't yet delivered. Within a day or two, two Rio Grande employees showed up and unceremoniously dumped the material in my back yard. Days passes, no worker, and I had to move all the boxes to prevent my newly installed sod from dying. Over the course of the next three and one-half weeks, I had to deal with this worker who had no end of excuses as to why he wasn't getting my very small job done. He would disappear for days at a time, leave materials strewn through the lawn, and piles of dirt to kill my grass. At one point he determined that the order was short a section of fence so he found a beat up section from wherever and used it. In the end, he promised that he would come clean up the job site, stated that I had paid for the complete job, blah, blah, blah, then once again disappeared. Rio Grande was apparently clueless when they called and wanted to know why I hadn't paid the final 50%. I informed them that I would when the job was complete. They promised to get right on it yet, another week passed. Icing on the cake occurred this weekend when I found the pile of excess rock and dirt hidden on my property line which was not where I had agreed that he could put it. In retrospect, I should have insisted that he haul it off. All in all, I had a bad experience with what should have been an easy three day installation. Rio Grande was unreliable, inaccurate in the estimate (failing to order sufficient fencing), and extremely unprofessional as represented by the sub-contractor. I would urge great caution to anyone considering them.
Description of Work: I had app. 100 feet of powder coated aluminum fencing installed on flat ground. The project included 3 gates.
