Let me start by saying that this was not that large of a job. We had a single car carport with vinyl ceiling, an addition that only had siding on a 3 foot by 9 foot by 3 foot side with a peak that went from roughly 20 feet down to a peak (see pictures), a peak vent on the other end of house and 110 feet of soffit. We wanted to replace the vinyl with James Hardie siding, and cut larger soffit vents. I will summarize the following paragraphs with a list of everything we made the workers correct on a daily basis.drilling small holes in existing soffit for venting instead of actually cutting the large continuous vent that were required. not taping seams on insulation board under siding.not leaving spaces for caulking as required for proper installation.nailing lap siding at the bottom instead of at top.using a variety of fasteners instead of what was recommended for siding and trim board.not placing flashing behind butt joints and caulk joints as required.not caulking all joints as required.getting paint from soffits on brick of house.leaving a mess including nails in the yard!using our supplies and tools!had to be told to clean up what little that they did! When the owner came down to look at house and when we received the estimate, we were told this job should only take 3 to 4 days. It wound up taking 3 to 4 weeks. The tearing off of existing exterior wound up taking a week on its own. Then when the install actually started it was a whole other list of problems. We were told by the owner that they had installed the James Hardie Board before and knew how to install it. We found this completely untrue. We had went to the website ourselves and read the step by step installation instructions and thank God that we did. They did not have the correct saw to cut the fiber cement board and they did not use the precautions necessary to protect themselves against the silicia dust. They did not use the appropriate gapping techniques or fastening techniques. We are lucky, in a way, that I was at home, due to some recent surgery, to watch their work everyday and correct them before it was a permanent mistake or covered up to never be seen until we had a major problem. Shame on us for not checking to make sure they knew what they were doing before we signed the contract. We had to constantly ask for things to be done correctly. Not to put a nail there, to caulk here, to paint here, to place board there. My husband took an extra day off work to stay with the workers all day long to show them how to install the siding boards when they started to put the first siding boards up incorrectly! The lead worker that was placed on this job was a very reliable 76 year old man! He was here every day at 8 am. But he was not knowledgeable about the fiber cement siding. He was also told by the owner not to be climbing a ladder. Please tell me how he was to complete a construction job without climbing a ladder! His help, on the other hand, would show up any time between 8:30 and 9:30 and left early almost every day. They also took 40 to 45 minute lunch breaks daily. On the second day of demo, myself and my husband witnessed all the workers taking 30 minute breaks after working for 20 to 30 minutes at a time for about a 3 hour period and then leaving early. They need to get more reliable workers that actually work and try to complete a job instead of what they were doing here. The two guys that showed up to paint were here on their days at 8 am and didn't leave until around 7pm. The rest of our house is brick and we asked that they be very careful and try not to get paint on the brick, but there is paint on brick. When my husband went to pay remaining balance, the owner asked for $800 more for labor charges and $400 for us changing the paint color. We agreed to pay an extra $900 above the original contract price of $5000, only because of some unexpected repairs they had to perform after taking the siding off. On the contract, it stated that NO extra charges would be added unless agreed upon in writing which was not done by the owner. He waited until we went to pay to ask for extra money. If he had contacted us when he first went above his contract price, we would have told them to leave the materials and, we would have finished the job ourselves. The workers were not given the tools and supplies they needed for this job. They had hammers, a circular saw, and one small roller and pan for paint. The workers wound up using our table saw, miter saw, and all painting supplies that where on our carport for our indoor paint use. We also had to buy a box of nails because they were running out and tape for seams in insulation board because we wanted it taped even though they "never tape those seams". The job site was not left clean. There are still nails all in our yard and on our carport. There are still hangers on the side of our house from the old gutters. There are bricks laying in our yard that they removed when closing in peak vent. We are not calling the company to send someone back for these things because we are so over them and would rather just clean it up ourselves. This job was a disaster from the beginning and had it not been for our persistence, I am confident that it would have ended looking like a disaster. The owner is a very nice older gentleman, but it seems that he has little to no control over his employees. The owner did not quote the job accurately. He did not supply reliable, knowledgeable workers. He did not supply appropriate tools or supplies, and he did not supply an accurate timeline. I would not use this company again and I would not recommend them.

They did majority of the work. It was a positive experience working with them. They do good quality work. They were least expensive of the group of quotes I got. The owner of the business is in business for 50 years and they did good quality work and in a fairly timely manner.
Description of Work: I used the services of Kingsport Awning & Siding to do new windows and siding. They also built a porch.
