We originally purchased quartz countertops through Home Depot in Hendersonville, NC who then contracted with Preston Woodworking. We were given a 4 week time frame for completion, but it was a full 10 weeks before the counters were ready to install with no word from Preston or Home Depot about the delay. Unfortunately, the original template was done incorrectly and the stone cut incorrectly. The seams on the upbar and lower counter did not match, nor did either one match the corners on the wall. Nevertheless, the installation crew spent a full day installing it and tried to pass it off as acceptable. We immediately contacted Home Depot who then contacted Preston to fix the problem. It was several days with no contact from Preston. We tried to contact the manager of the stone department, but never did hear from anyone from Preston until they sent the owner of the installation company and someone to re-template. The templater pointed out significant errors in the original template and criticized the installation crew for knowingly installing an improperly cut stone, assuring us that fixing our issue would take top priority. It was another 7 weeks after the original installation before the counters were re-done for a total of 4 months. Not once during the entire 4 months did ANYONE from Preston management contact us, even after multiple emails voicing our complaints with the quality of work and the extended delays. The second round produced a barely acceptable final cutting with a sloppy installation of the sink (glue seeping out from behind the caulking as it dried) which my husband had to repair. We tried to pursue a discount to compensate for the extended delays, poor quality work, and multiple days off from work to deal with correcting the problem, but again we got NO response. Home Depot finally was able to get them to agree to an insulting $300 discount, which amounted to less than 10% of what we paid. Take your business elsewhere. This business uses incompetent crews and there is no customer service to fix their sloppy work.

After assuring us that the work would be done by about 3 weeks after counter templates were made, this company was a no-show on the arrival of the expected day (September 15th). There was no communication until the contractor called to ask why the work had not begun. We were then promised that it would be another weekend before work would commence, but again Preston Woodworking was a no-show. When they did finally arrive a couple of days later, the counter was being placed and a large chip was suffered in a front corner of a major piece of the pattern. The pieces were eventually removed (there was a house party in the intervening period, where I had to explain why the 'new counters' were damaged and the tub consequently out of commission) and the promised day of return came and went... as was my usual and customary experience with Preston Woodworking by that point. These were not the only delays; on one occasion the owner assured my contractor that the Preston team would be by in the morning to place a quartz frame around the shower (all part of the original project); the contractor had lined up a house-cleaning service to come in behind PW and do clean up. Of course, Preston Woodworking was a no-show, and a no-call the next morning. When the contractor called later that day to find out why, the excuse was that Dave Preston Woodworking was understaffed and would be by the next morning, but of course there had been no phone call to inform us, and without the contractor's phone call everyone would have been standing around the house waiting for a team that was not going to show up that day. The cleaning team had to be re-scheduled at the last minute -- an inconvenience for everyone. When the counter installation was finally completed nearly a month after the originally promised completion date, the invoice was almost $1,000 more than the expected amount and was in fact, in error. My contractor suggested to Dave Preston that there should be some consideration for all of the inconvenience and delays on behalf of PW but this suggestion was completely ignored and never responded to. When the error on the final invoice was pointed out to the company owner, he adjusted the final charge and then asked to come by the following day to get his check. When I assured him that it would be in the mail by the following morning (local delivery) he indicated that he would prefer to come by in 24 hours and pick it up, in spite of the fact that I had plans for the next day. I left a check (payment in full) in the mailbox, and also mentioned that in addition to the work done in the house, that the basketball backboard at the top of the driveway had been broken in the last couple of weeks and the pole pushed a few inches off its anchor. Clearly something had backed into the pole at the height of the backboard and damaged the structure from the top down. The truck used by Preston Woodworking is well over ten feet tall, and it is the ONLY vehicle anywhere near that height that has been in my driveway in years. I even saw a scratch on the truck's trailer at the appropriate height on the day that they finally completed the job. I admitted to Dave Preston that there had been no witness to the damage (other than the driver of the truck, presumably) and Dave said that he would look at his company truck to inspect for any evidence of a scratch, etc. That was a day after he picked up the check, and I've never heard back... but the check cleared, of course. Stay away from this company. The counters do look very nice, but the aggravation and lack of communication or reliability of service much more than negates any and all goodwill provided by the end-product.

The people who came before were very unprofessional, no comprehension of what the job they were here to do ...spoke no English and used no level to see if the countertops were even level. Preston came tore out their mess, put in the new countertop with great care and professionalism.
Description of Work: tore out counter tops put in by another company and installed replacement.
