If you want a substandard product, at exorbitant prices, by all means use him. Otherwise, do your homework and select a reputable builder. Don't check him out by his company name... Google Keith Lester Lanphear (in Florida). You'll be surprised what comes up. Don't get caught like we did with a terrible installation that ran way over budget. He'll try to squeeze every penny out of you. Every aspect of the installation was wrong. The concrete job was horrible, it dropped 3 inches over 3 feet. He stained it permanently with muriatic acid trying to clean the concrete slop form the coping and actually used a crowbar to knock the concrete off the coping, permanently scratching it.. We had hollow spots under the fiberglass pool and the pool was not level, no permits were pulled (he said we didn't need any, but lied about it as he was operating without a license at the time). The pool was improperly grounded with an INSULATED ground wire. The electrical installation was all wrong with conduit buried only 2 inches deep, no electrical permit was pulled, the grade work was terrible (the concrete pad for our future pool house was 4 ft above pool the pool deck level). When he installed our pool, He carelessly put everyone using the pool at risk of electrocution. We hired a great contractor to do the installation for a second time, so our $39K project (which was quoted at $32K) ended up costing us over $57,000. The re-work included ripping out the concrete (no problem he stained it permanently with acid and it dropped 3 inches over 3 ft.), re-grading the entire installation site, re-setting the pool and redoing all the electrical work all the way back to the electrical panel. Yes I spoke with him and notified him of the problems he left us with, but he argued every point. No, I didn't give him a chance to correct his errors, they were too numerous and I don?t want him anywhere close to my property because he's totally clueless. The man has no respect for other people's property. He tore up gates, fencing, a grape arbor, damaged several trees and ran heavy equipment over our septic field (Dump trucks and concrete trucks). He doesn't even own a Bobcat for a final grade. As mentioned earlier, he ran over my fence and gate with his track hoe (pulling the concrete truck off my septic lines), and when he was leaving I asked him what he was going to do about the fence and gate... His answer; "Send me the bill". Don?t be another victim of this rip off artist!
