We ran a call for this NEW homeowner, existing location, last Thursday, 8/3/23 and had to add refrigerant to the upstairs unit. We were to come back to do a leak search to due to many factors, one being this unit was in the attic at 4pm in the afternoon, this can be dangerous to the technician in this heat and that we have never added refrigerant to this unit since it was installed so our policy is to watch the unit for further issues or until the homeowner calls back. Next the technician said that he would return to do a leak search and determine where a leak could be. The homeowner called in Monday to say the unit went down over the weekend. We offer weekend service calls but no call was made.An appointment was made for a different technician to come back out, 8/7/23, to do further research on the unit. The office also researched the warranty details for the new homeowner and sent PHOTO evidence that the units were no longer under warranty due to the previous homeowner NOT informing the NEW homeowner it needed to be done. NO service company has ANY control over warranty transfers. You need to make sure the whole story is told. tina lowery Local Guide·91 reviews·493 photos 2 weeks ago NEW Called late afternoon to see if they could make it out to my house the same day as our unit was blowing out warm air. Jason Weyland 13 reviews a day ago NEW Critical: Professionalism, Quality, Value To all reading this, Bill Owen's info is moot. We couldn't have even transferred the warranty after purchasing the home even if we wanted to because BILL OWENS didnt register the unit with Trane after installation - cutting the warranty to 5 years and ending before we even bought the home. And to anyone thinking the previous homeowners should have done this, dont. All decent sized hvac companies that I've spoken to within the last week say they handle the registration of newly installed units and give you a certificate saying it's registered. To any existing customers of Bill Owen's, MAKE SURE YOUR UNIT IS REGISTERED WITH TRANE. You have 90 days to do this, and if you missed the cutoff, take it up with Bill Owen's because they are to blame. See the "photo evidence" they referenced, which they provided me, and how the warranty ended after 5 years under the original owners. Who's not telling the full story now? To their point that it was hot and the tech couldn't do the job the first day, I call bs. The tech even told me "it's almost end of day so I'll just do a bandaid fix for now." Nothing about heat. He just didn't want to do the proper fix because it was almost end of day. The other techs that came to look at the unit said that it was pointless to top off with freon because it was obvious there was a leak. They were able to do the leak search I wanted in the first place, during the same time of day that it was "too hot" for Bill Owen's tech, and found the leak in no time with minimal time in the attic. The cause of which was a faulty installation by Bill Owens causing the door panel to rub against the indoor coil. Bill Owens tech also originally quoted me $2k for repair under warranty (we saw how that played out) for labor and freon alone. I found another company that will do the whole job WITHOUT warranty for $600 less. I wouldn't go near Bill Owens company with a 100ft pole. They are shady, obviously argumentative, and a complete scam. Find someone else that cares about your time and money.

When I first contacted this company I bought two new HVAC units for $17,000. So far, the I’ve had no problems with them. However, the next time I called to have to have work done on the upstairs heating and A/C unit the work was so poorly done that is caused a leak that subsequently damaged the ceiling. When I contacted this company about the problem he denied being responsible and refused to do anything to rectify the situation. He claims “the unit is 20 yrs. old was not up to code and should have never been up there”, but he never bothered to tell me this before or after doing the work until I wrote a bad review about his company.

They brought a part to put in my heating and air unit. They knew what to do before they even got here. They changed my filters. Every time I have an experience with Brian Owens and his team, it is a great one. I’ve been using him for more than 20 years. I would highly recommend Bill Owens heating and air to anyone!

They will be back in October, they do it twice a year. We have an ongoing with them. They put our system in a few years ago and we've had an ongoing relationship with them since. We wouldn't use anybody else. I bought a three-year maintenance plan just recently with them and that was a year ago. They're excellent. They were very honest when they replaced our system and we felt very comfortable with them to do an annual checkup. We wanted something annually because we've always had it in other houses we've been in and we knew that if they come out and check it every so often, maybe only once a year, it's more expensive, but to do a maintenance plan, is a lot cheaper. Their techs explain everything they do and if anything is wrong, they let you know. They're real good at what they do. I know what we paid in Carterville and their maintenance charge was just a little bit less than what we paid in Carterville. They call me and schedule the appointment. They're always on time, I've never had them not be on time.

My A/C was leaking and clogged. They'd serviced my unit before, so I called them again. They didn't open my unit, but said they fixed it. It worked for a couple weeks, but I came home again to a leaking/backed up unit, and it was spilling onto the floor. Hardwood floor was ruined. They came back out and said they fixed the back up. When I asked about the leak, they told me it wasn't leaking, despite seeing the ruined floor. When I asked for further investigation, they told me they'd have to get me a quote. They never did. After the second service where they actually opened the unit, it was blowing but had no cold air. After a third visit, they re-charged the system but still could not tell me why it was leaking onto the floor (not in the drip pan). Again I asked for a full service on it. No follow-up, no quotes after my asking several times, and still a broken unit. I will never use their services again and would not recommend them. They never even addressed the standing water inside the unit that a second company found immediately.

See above for comments. The company also suggested inappropriate work in our basement, as well as dishonored current advertised savings both on the HVAC system and special financing. It was a very poor experience, and I would not recommend this company to anyone again.

We are sorry that she feels she had a bad experience from us this time. They had purchased a unit from us previously and as far as we know they were very satisfied. There was communication and feedback between [removed member name] via email, phone and in person for an estimate on a new unit all which seemed to be going well until she found out that the advertising issue she was referring to was an outdated ad from the mint magazine and that particular promotion from Trane had expired. As far as suggesting inappropriate work in basement we have no clue what she is referring to.

I live in a late 1970's house that has always been a problem to keep cool in the summer. I decided that after too many years, I would have the problem fixed, one way or another. After doing much research over a year's time (please see notes below), and consulting four providers, I decided on Bill Owens Heating and Air Conditioning. Shane Johnson, the sales and general manager, was informative and patient in explaining to me the complications of my air conditioning system: under sized for the house when it was built, especially considering the high ceiling in the dining/living room central to the house. He chose for me a Carrier all-electric system to replace the dual electric/propane system. Mr. Johnson was very careful to explain to me all the paperwork involved and after installation took care of filing the Carrier guarantee paperwork. He also helped me with the paperwork for the Electric Power Board's energy rebate program (please see notes below). The installation included removing the old system, adding and enlarging floor vents, and installing a second intake vent. The system now is dual two-zone, which means that I can set the temperature in the two wings of the house (which are easier to cool) at a different temperature from the living and dining room. Although we are not yet in July and August, the system seems to keep the living and dining room more consistently cool. The system is also very quiet, unlike the previous system. Of course, I do not yet have statistics from the Electric Power Board about the cost of cooling because, as I wrote above, this is just the first part of June, and with the unusual amount of rain, the cost of cooling cannot yet be calculated. I do have the equalized payment plan from the Electric Power board, which I highly recommend (please see notes below). When Mr. Johnson and his crew arrived--on time and ready to go--the installation took three days, which is understandable considering the amount of reconstruction work that had to be done. The crew was polite, and very careful to leave no debris as they installed new vents and the new intake in the house: I did not have a dusty mess to clean up! After the installation, I requested that the Electric Power Board inspect the installation. This is part of the Energy Rebate program (please see notes below). Mr Epperson from the electric power board inspected the installation and pronounced the system and quot;top of the lineand quot; and the installation and quot;excellent.and quot; Given that I have never done such a project--or expensive project--having Mr. Epperson's evaluation--without cost-- was very important in giving me confidence that my decision in choosing Bill Owens was correct. In addition, because my previous system was propane/electric, I have a huge propane tank in the yard containing about two hundred gallons of propane. The gas company told me that, yes, they could remove the unsightly tank, but would charge me to remove the gas and the tank. Mr. Johnson suggested that I keep the tank to use the propane, and have gas logs installed in the fireplace. My neighbors over the years have encouraged me to do this, as they have done. As part of the installation, Mr. Johnson's crew plumed the propane into the fire place. I have not yet had the logs installed because I learned that gas logs are and quot;seasonal merchandiseand quot; at places like Home Depot and Lowe's. I have shopped online, but want to see and quot;in personand quot; the logs I buy. Some that I have seen are beautiful and and quot;life like, and quot; but others are too fake. Mr. Johnson said, and my research have verified, that when I have used the propane in the big tank, I can have the big tank removed and replaced with a smaller, less obtrusive one. I will shop for the logs in the fall and have Mr. Johnson install them. As to the Electric Power Board: Because you are reading this, you probably live in the service area of the Electric Power Board. If you are upgrading a heating and air condition system, or want to learn more about controlling the energy cost of your home, I strongly suggest that the first step in your strategy is to call the Electric Power Board. The EPB representatives are very helpful and patient. When I began my project, I needed to learn how to read my electric bill (no laughing). I learned about equalized payment, which I strongly recommend. Equalized payment gives me control over my budget because based on the EPB's records, I pay what my yearly average payment each month will be. There are no surprises in August and January. Learn more about this from the EPB. Also, your next step would be to request an Energy Audit from the EPB. This is free--yes, without charge! The EPB will send an energy auditor to your home to evaluate where your home's energy losses are. When I began my and quot;cooler house project, and quot; the auditor came to my house and spent about two hours. He gave me a list of where the house was losing heat and cooling. Some of the things that needed to be done were so simple that I could do them, such as adding insulation to the attic door hatch and caulking around doors and windows. Of course, the EPB's inspection of the installation of the new system was of great peace-of-mind value to me. The Energy Rebate Program was of money value. No, I am not making this up. After Mr. Epperson from the EPB inspected the installation, I filed the paperwork with the help of Mr. Johnson at Bill Owens. Within three weeks of filing, I received an energy rebate of $500 from the EPB. Contact the EPB for more information. The Electric Power Board is a great resource in our community. Improve your home, the quality of your life, and your budget by simply calling the EPB, and, of course, Mr. Johnson at Bill Owens Heating and Air Conditioning. Best wishes on your project! LM

I was not given a price for the repairs other than "If you buy a replacement unit from us, we won't charge you." After about a month, I had still not decided on who I would get to replace the old unit and I got an email asking where to send the bill. I was charged over $100 dollars for a start capacitor (which I think is way too much, even with an acceptable markup).I thought it was odd to replace a start capacitor that was still functioning, particularly as I was planning to replace the entire unit.Even though I had almost decided to have them do the replacement, I changed my mind after this. I'm not against paying someone a reasonable amount for performing a service, the whole deal just seemed a little underhanded to me. I take some responsibility for not asking for a quote before the part was installed. Lesson learned.
Description of Work: My heat pump had a slow leak and I had decided to get it replaced. I asked Bill Owens Heating and Air Conditioning to come out and give me a price on replacing the unit and to add some refrigerant to get me through till I got it replaced. The person came out to perform the work and give me a quote. While he was adding refridgerant, he said that the start capacitor needed to be replaced. Afterward, he walked down my old system for a quote.

Our Sales person came out and fixed your system and gave you two quotes on system replacement and advised you that if you changed out your unit you would not be charged for services rendered. The capacitor was swollen and 6% under its manufactures specs which would of given out at anytime had it not been replaced at that time leading us to a call back in the future. This is a legitimate business and we strive to provide fair market services to our customers and not price gouge or make erroneous repairs or charges to them in any way. I am sorry that you feel that you were overcharged but other companies charge more for the same services provided at that time.

I went on vacation and came back to a non-working HVAC unit. I contacted Bill Owens based on recommendations from friends. They came out on a Friday and advised me that my fan motor needed replaced. It was incredibly hot. They contacted their office and stated that it would be the following Monday before they could get one. Since the heat makes my wife sick, I told them to get it and fix it as soon as possible. They returned the following Monday and replaced the fan motor which took them approximately 30-45 minutes and the unit worked fine. After the fact, I found out from several other people and my own online research that I could have purchased the motor for around 50.00.

My A/C stopped working late on a Friday afternoon at a very HOT time! I called several heating and air companies. I assume they were all very busy, most did not call back. One other company called and said they couldn't come out until Monday afternoon. However, Chuck from Bill Owens H and A called me around 7pm. He said he was going to get something to eat, and would stop by my house to check it out on his way home. He came around 8pm, found the problem and asked me if it would be ok for him to come back and fix it very early the next morning on his way to his first service call. After spending just one HOT night, he was back the next morning, and by 7:30 am I had cold A/C again. This man was so kind, concerned about waking up anyone in my house at the early hour. I have very little money, but appreciated him and his service so much. I had no cash, and he would not let me give him an extra check for a tip for going above and beyond for me. The cost was less than I expected. I thanked God for this company, and especially Chuck, the serviceman who went above and beyond to help me!!!!! It is very hard to find this kind of service and other companies would do well to model their service after this one!
