4 Day Cabinets

Initial delivery delayed by 5 days. Shipped without the soft closures but that situation was rectified in a couple of weeks. I would highly recommend them for the work they performed and the quality of the product.

I contracted for a portable island with a drop leaf butcher block for my kitchen. It was to coordinate with my formal cherry furniture and kitchen cabinets. I chose a stain and wood finish that would look nice with my other things. I even showed the manager a photo of the open space and discussed how it should look. She called me with a quote, I paid in FULL, and she promised it in two to four weeks. I was excited. If I could get in two weeks I could have it before Thanksgiving. I called in two weeks to check but that call was never returned. After 4 weeks since I still hadn't gotten a call regarding the status, I called again. That and that call wasn't returned either, so I finally just drove to the office. A couple of weeks later, after about 6 weeks, I received a cabinet which was totally unacceptable! It was very crudely made and did not match the specifications. The top was too small and the device which was supposed to support the drop leaf was ridiculous! I'll try to describe it. Instead of a hinge or something else actually attached to the cabinet, there were two rectangular holes on either end of the back side. Two crude boards were provided which I was supposed to slide in to hold up the drop leaf. One of the holes was not even in a correct place so the end of the stick protruded from underneath. If that wasn't bad enough, these devices didn't even keep the leaf level with the top of the butcher block when the leaf was up. There were other several other issues with the quality of the piece, but to describe it as "rustic" would be kind. I took photos and drove to the showroom to show the "manager" how horrible it was. She came to my house the next day and did agree. I showed her my cherry Ethan Allen desk with wing supports that swing out and said I wanted the same kind of device to hold up the drop leaf. The carpenters came and picked it up and we started with a different carpenter. Finally I did get an acceptable piece, but there are some issues with it still. She clearly had not communicated to the carpenter how I wanted the leaf supported. Instead of the wing support I had requested, there was a metal hinge which didn't do the job. I showed the carpenter the desk and he came back in a day or so and made modifications which included having to piece the butcher block to add a couple of inches to accomodate the wing supports. A piece of the butcher block veneer on the edge of the leaf is coming loose; the carpenter told me to just use my clothes iron to heat it and get it to stick down. One of the drawers isn't installed correctly and comes off the track. The main frustration was with the total lack or responsiveness from the sales office. Rarely did anyone actually answer the phone so I had to leave messages which were not returned. On several occasions, after waiting a several days for a return call, I had to drive to the show room to actually speak with the 'manager'. I have waited several months to complete this review to cool down a bit. Maybe things have improved since then.

I went to the store to look at what they had to offer on January 12. On January 13 I went back with my husband and we purchased a white 48 inch vanity with gray granite countertop and white undercounter oval sink. We were told it took longer to get this cabinet due to the granite top. It was scheduled to be installed on January 30 at 2:30 but around 1:00 we got a call from Billy saying he could not make it out until the next day around 10:30. It took approximately three hours to install it. The granite had a small chip on one corner which Billy said someone would come in and epoxy it for us later. The cabinets are well made and good quality.

Our contractor installed the cabinetry, and it looks great! Even our contractor was impressed with how good the cabinets look. So far, they also seem to be a quality product that will last for awhile.

At first all was well. We picked out our stuff, put in our order - and the rep even found us a marble remnant that saved us some money. But we were quoted a week and a half, two weeks max ... and then we heard nothing from them for three weeks, at which point we started calling to ask what was up. For a few days, we simply couldn't reach them. My husband finally gave up trying them by phone, and drove out there to get answers. The holidays were coming, after all, and we still needed to get the things installed, for heaven's sake. (We had ordered in *plenty* of time to beat the holidays, or so we'd been encouraged to believe. It's worth noting, we only had one functioning bathroom at this point, thanks to the delay. With guests coming, that was going to be a real problem.) Finally, more than a month after our order/payment, and after half a dozen phone calls and an extra trip or two out there ...the cabinets and vanity arrived...without the hardware. Of course. The delivery guys told us they didn't have it, so we must not have ordered any. Our receipt proved differently. Husband called up the office yet again, and was told (in essence) "Oops." They said they were sorry, but we could go ahead and drive out there (yet again) and pick it up ourselves in another few days, once they got it sorted out. Ha. But within the next day or two, some random dude (no uniform or business card or anything) knocked on our door and with no explanation, just handed me an unmarked brown paper bag full of loose hardware. It was indeed the stuff we'd paid for - by that point about 5 weeks previously. I mean, thanks, but ... what the h***? In the end, everything looks good and seems solid - which is why they get a "C" overall. But everything except for the workmanship (and the marble remnant - tracked down courtesy of their office person, who seemed very nice) ... was just a mess. They finally did comp the delivery charge, which made me roll my eyes. We'd burned more money than that on gas getting to and from Hixson when they wouldn't answer their phone.

I spent about $4000 on the job. The price was fair. The cabinets that were installed were of a different color than those shown in the showroom, though. They had not changed the display in the showroom. So, I got a different product than what I thought I would get. I will use them again in the future.
