I was never satisfied with Mr. Maynard's work on my chimney. It leaked a little when it rained a lot but nothing like in June 2014. That's when I noticed quite a bit of water on the sheetrock beside the fireplace and on the ceiling above it. I began trying to contact Mr. Maynard by phone (once a week at first and then every other week). He kept telling me that he would come and check it out but would never set an appointment time. On August 7, I sent him a certified letter explaining that I wanted my money back since two different chimney repair companies had told me that his work and repair products were substandard. I explained that I felt he had taken advantage of me and that he took money from me for work he knew he had not performed properly. After he received the letter, he called me on 8/11/14 and was furious. He was more concerned with getting the names of the workmen who had "outed" him than he was about fixing the problem that I had already paid him to do. But still nothing was done. Then I contacted the Better Business Bureau on 9/15/14. BBB contacted Mr. Maynard on 9/16, and he never responded. BBB contacted him for a second time on 9/29, and as of 10/14/14 they had not heard any response from either notices. All I wanted was my original $600 back to repair my chimney properly. I WILL NOT RECOMMEND ANY COMPANY THAT DOES BUSINESS IN THIS MANNER, AND I SURELY WOULD NOT USE THEM AGAIN!
Description of Work: MAKE A BIG MESS OF MY CHIMNEY!—Mr. Dan Maynard initially was hired to put a new roof on my house in September 2012, and I was pleased with the roof, even though I thought it was too expensive. I told him that the roof was leaking around the chimney, and he said he could fix that for $600. I was told in writing that he would fix the cracks in the chimney with block seral (whatever that is). I am a senior citizen who was unable to go up on the roof and check his work, but the chimney continued to leak. I had a chimney sweep to come and clean the chimney on 8-5-14. He also checked the exterior chimney. He was appalled at what he saw. The chimney sweep asked if Mr. Maynard was licensed or qualified to do this type of work, and I told him that I wasn’t sure but Mr. Maynard kept telling me that he would take care of it. He said that not only were the cracks not addressed correctly, but Mr. Maynard had filled some of the cracks with roofing silicone and used a roofing waterproof agent instead of using appropriate chimney products. He made pictures that I can show upon request of the blobbed silicone and the gaping holes and cracks left in the chimney when he was finished. He also told me that I should request my $600 back from Mr. Maynard. After that, I called a qualified chimney repair service to give me a second opinion. They also checked the chimney and firebox and made pictures and said basically the same thing about Mr. Maynard's workmanship. I contracted them to clean up the mess that Mr. Maynard left and repair the problems that were causing the leaking. I can say that I was pleased with the work of the foliow-up team, and the leaking has ceased.

Several years ago Dan Maynard installed my roof and some solar tubes, Unfortunately some flashing was not done by his crew next to the gable at my front door. After I called to complain about water leaking behind my gutter Dan came out the next day and saw the area of concern and agreed to fix/repair the area at no cost to me. I must say it was a pleasure to work with someone that will stand behind his work even though it was almost 8 years ago that the initial work was done.

After having several days of hearing a “drip” from the ceiling in the master bathroom, I called a highly scored company on Angie’s List to inspect my attic since I had for several weeks heard a light “drip” only when a heavy rain occurred. The company checked out the attic where it noticed that a vent tube had collected water and that was probably the problem. The Angie’s List restoration business referred me to Dan Maynard, a locale construction company with a good reputation. On his first visit to my home, Mr. Maynard of Maynard Construction arrived promptly, had a friendly demeanor, was dressed professionally as the owner of the company and respected my wishes to remove his shoes in areas with light-color carpet when he entered my home. He has a great attitude! He and his crew of skilled workers inspected the attic and the outside vents on the side of the house. They also looked at the photos taken by the restoration specialist who had located the dampness from the rain having blown through the louvered vent near the bathroom wall/ceiling ceiling. Maynard Construction replaced all of the vents on the side wall of the house, (to be on the safe side) but after several heavy rains, the “drip” that I heard in ceiling area over the shower in the bathroom returned. Mr. Maynard made several trips to inspect the attic area. There was no evidence of mold or other issues because drying after rain was fast. He recommended that we take a closer look at the roof to inspect other vents. He also stated that the roof on my 7 year-old-home to be in very good condition. Nashville had withstood the many storms in 2011-2012, so I was concerned about getting rid of the water issue—even though it seemed to be slight. Through the process of elimination (to avoid any undue cost), Mr. Maynard made many trips to my home after it rained. Of course, I had to call him “on the spot” since most were scattered storms (or storms in the night). Not once did Mr. Maynard refuse to listen to my details of what I heard and where. He always remained patient—far more than I did. I was so stressed because I had had the roof inspected 3 times to be sure that the ROOF was not damaged by storms. Each professional, including Mr. Maynard, found nothing! Dan found all pipes on the roof and the condensation pipe from the cooling system to be in great shape. A plumber was called in to be sure. He agreed. I did EVERYTHING to remedy the issue, but still detected no problem/solution to this mystery. Finally, Mr. Maynard suggested that we return to the roof. Reluctantly, I decided to call my homeowner insurance company—after having them insure my homes for over 20 years, (I wanted to avoid ever having to file a claim.) However, Mr. Maynard met with the claims adjuster to inspect the review what his company had done to eradicate the water “leak.” The adjuster walked through every bit of the information—photos, vent replacements on the side of the house and quality of installation, etc. They both agreed that the roof looked great. I was at my wits end. Mr. Maynard recommended that he replace the shingles on the roof that were directly in the area where we saw a water stain in the bathroom, but stated the water could be coming from another corner and trailing downward to that point. (This made me more stressful!) Well, my decision was to replace the roof on the back of the house rather than having to worry any more. Dan and his crew came on the decided date, arrived on time and kept EVERYTHING clean. They covered the outside lawn, garden and patio areas, too. He also obliged Homeowner Association Rules about keeping nearby common grounds areas neat—no debris/trash was left where Maynard Construction parked. Dan Maynard Construction did everything possible to make my business experience with them memorable and stellar. Mr. Maynard is a calm, Christian gentleman with a crew of skilled workers who know what to do on the job, even when he is not on site. His team did not waver but got to the task of doing a fine job. When they finished roofing, I never knew they came. (My neighbors never know they came!) In the midst of resolving my home repair, Dan was such a responsible businessman that I recommended him to two friends who needed home emergency repairs. They were equally pleased. On another note, I also recommended Maynard’s Construction to a friend who was adding a sun porch to her house. In conclusion, my experience working with Dan Maynard Construction was positive. His business is locally established, “Ma and Pa,” as we used to say. He takes pride in leaving the homeowner satisfied that his company provided quality service. Over the phone, Mr. Maynard agreed to double check the shingles on the back roof for flatness and possible dips in the near future. He also agreed to provide me with a batch of shingles from that order lot installed on my roof should any repairs need to be done. In the future, I will be contacting this company for other homeowner needs. I would highly recommend that Dan Maynard Construction be Honorably Mentioned in Angie’s List!

This is a third generation family company and they take great pride in the quality of work they perform. They are punctual, very professional and clean up as if they were never there in the first place. I wouldn t hesitate in highly recommending them to anyone serious about finding a roofer who won t rip them off and will do an excellent job.
Description of Work: They took off the old roof on our 2700 square foot home and then they applied brand new asphalt shingles, taking about 2 days to complete the job. There were no damaged boards to replace this time and all the old material and trash was discarded by them when they left.
