I’ve dealt with the guy who owns this company for a long time. He did work for me while at another company as well as after starting up Diversified Heating and Cooling. Here’s a little history. In January 2014 I called Jason Broyles. He was working for another company at the time and I was told by him and the original owner that he was part owner of that company. I don’t think the owners idiot son was supposed to know that he wasn’t going to inherit the business and Jason was going to buy out the company in a few years so the original owner could retire. Jason wanted the son fired and gone. And he was right in thinking that. I had a burning smell in my house, so my insurance adjuster paid Jason to find out what was wrong with my furnace. Jason said motor and electronics tested bad, and my insurance paid $2160 for this to be replaced. I asked him to check the whole system out from top to bottom. He said that he had done that, and there was nothing else wrong with my system. Much later on, I found in the furnace electrical sub panel a 70 amp breaker for my furnace that only required at maximum, a 15 or up to 20 amp breaker. This was a bad fire hazard he missed. Also, I found out later that I needed another 200cfm of supply side duct added to balance out my system. He left the old motor, capacitor, transformer and control board in my garage. I took the motor and capacitor to have it tested. It tested perfectly and I was told that more than likely all the electronics were good that powered and controlled the motor. Jason had ripped off my insurance company for $2,610. I found out what the real problem was later. The burning smell never went away. So I call Jason Broyles back three more times over several weeks and he said he could not smell anything, even though the smell would turn your stomach. The third visit, I made him do a carbon monoxide test. After a few minutes of running the furnace, the carbon monoxide meter reading was twenty parts per million. Jason said this was Ok!?! Twenty parts per million isn't a very high reading, but by researching this, I found that exposure to small parts per million over an extended period of time can cause a variety of health issues including heart problems, brain damage, lung damage, vision problems, sleep disturbances and memory impairment, or possibly death. The reason why no one could smell anything? I found out later that HVAC companies hate to change out heat exchangers, because it is a time consuming all day job and they could make much more money doing other jobs or just selling you a new furnace. He knew the heat exchanger was cracked all along and was trying to milk me and my insurance for all he could. He charged me $338 for these three visits and gave me invoices each time for Diversified Heating and Cooling. He said he was starting his own business, but was working for South Nashville still. I’m guessing to take the customers with him. I was pretty sure that there was something else wrong with the furnace, and being that I wasn’t making any progress in getting the furnace fixed, I asked Jason in March 2014 to put in a new furnace. He quoted a 125,000 BTU furnace. He installed a 100,000 BTU unit. Later on, I found out that by putting in the 100,000 BTU unit, he saved himself about $750, and instead of $3,380 he quoted, he charged me $3,655. So in all, he pocketed about $1,000 by putting in a 100,000 BTU unit. WHAT WAS REALLY WRONG WITH MY FURNACE? Jasons right hand man Mike came over to fix a leak on the exhaust flue on my roof and as he was leaving, he was looking at my old furnace that was sitting under my carport. He pointed out to me several cracked heat exchanger rivets on it, and said that's where your carbon monoxide was coming from. I found out later that this brand of furnace, a Goodman, was renowned for having cracked heat exchanger rivets, and that any competent hvac technician should have known this. In May of 2014, I asked Jason if he could put in a new evap coil unit to replace the old one. After doing this, some problems arose. I had nothing but problems with Jason from the beginning and then someone advised me that I should be dealing with the original owner of the company, not Jason. So at this point, after giving him a call, I started dealing with Phillip Gray. Phillip came over to see what was wrong with the evap coil box that Jason and his crew had put in, and found a few problems. One, the foil tape not sticking under the bottom and air blowing out, and two, the drain pipe from the evap coil drain pan was in the wrong drain outlet and the evap coil drain pan was overflowing water into the insulation in the bottom of the evap coil box. And three, he also found that behind the service door entrances to the evap coil box, there was a deflector plate, that was supposed to tuck inside the evap coil drain pan, was sitting outside of the evap coil drain pan, allowing water to get into the insulation in the bottom of the evap coil box as well, all of which can cause mold problems and ruin your whole system. He also found that the furnace and the evap coil box had not been leveled, which would cause water to spill over into the evap coil box. Phillip ended up replacing this evap coil box. Later on I found out that Jason told their service guy who came over to install this new evap coil box to get me to sign an invoice before he left saying that the furnace was working perfectly and I was completely happy, so that I wouldn’t be able to say there was something wrong after a few days or weeks with the installation. Basically, so I would have to pay for their installation screw ups to be fixed. After these guys left, I found more problems with tape not sticking and a lot of air blowing out around the evap coil service doors and the drain pan pipe, all of which was enough to heat or cool a small bedroom. But when I emailed pictures of this to them and Jason found out, all I heard was that I signed that invoice saying I was happy and nothing was wrong when they left. I ended up fixing these problems myself rather than pay them to fix their bad work. And too, none of them could do it right in the first place. Toward the end of the summer of 2014, I was told by one of the service managers there who had over twenty years in the hvac industry, that he was pulled off of his regular duties and was given invoices for the last years worth of furnace installs and sent out to peoples houses to recheck the work done on them. This was because of two employees, Bryan and Zack, who had done most of the bad work at my house, that had done most all of their installs. I told this guy that he was in for a lot of rework to be done. He agreed. I found out a few weeks later that all three of these guys quit or were fired, and also Jason Broyles was booted out of the company as well. One of the biggest problems that caused this was that Jason never came back out to check on the work his crew had done on jobs to make sure it was done right and the quality was good. And too, Zack and Bryan do work about as well as a three year old would do. Here’s how smart Phillip Gray is though. After Jason was gone, he later hired Zack back and made him their senior tech. He did the worst work in the history of bad work at my house and other houses apparently. Genius. I had been dealing with Jason for several months with nothing but problems. There has been bad work done that he has argued and argued with me about. He had said there was absolutely nothing wrong with my original furnace when there was actually a very severe problem with it. He endangered my family and pets lives with either stupidity or greed. And too, he will use your lack of knowledge about hvac systems against you in order to get your money. That is what it is all about. Getting your money, at just about any cost. I recommend no one doing business with him, ever.

Came out on Saturday after the heat pump failed during the winter storm. Inspected system and disabled the offending parts that were keeping the system from working allowing us to use Em heat until the heat pump could be diagnosed and repaired. Came back on Monday to inspect the entire system. The fault turned out to be intermittent. Only charged a very reasonable service fee even though two of them were here for a total of more than two hours checking all of the circuits between the inside and outside units. Told to call right away if this happened again and they would respond to troubleshoot the problem at no additional cost. Only further costs would be parts and labor once the fault is identified and fixed. Great, kind, polite and caring guys.
