Description of Work: I purchased a promotional deal from Green Earth from Angie's List for leaf removal. I was charged $40 more just due to the amount of leaves I had in the yard and required amount of work, which I was fine with. Our yard looked AMAZING after they were done. I will definitely hire them again after the trees shed their leaves...this time, before the holidays!

Description of Work: For context, our yard is very nice and was professionally landscaped in the last 3 years with most of our flower beds are located on the front of the house with rocks along the bottom covering the weedblocker. We do not have children or playground equipment in our yard. We do not have junk cars in our yard. We do not have anything that makes it difficult to access any part of our yard. We live in a very affluent, well established neighborhood with a VERY active HOA so every yard in our neighborhood is maintained. We had the leaves raked up during the fall so there are only about 3 bags of leaves that needed to be cleaned up along our fence line in our back yard in addition to needing the leaves cleaned from flower beds (which have rocks on the bottom so leaves and trash sit right on top and can be blown out using a blower). | |We decided to try a different yard company because we wanted a "professional" company that was more dependable than a one man operation and could come clean the yard on a regular basis. Our grass does not grow very fast so maintenance is very nominal until the all the trees in our yard shed their leaves in the fall. Our mistake, in addition to paying for services up front hoping that the company would do a good job, was thinking that we were hiring a company that could take our yard from "alright" to "beautiful". | |I purchased the deal on April 1st. It was the $280 deal to have all leaves removed ( 8 hours of work). The deal also included in the fine print that if services took less than 8 hours, then hours would be |refunded and they would send 3 guys out 2 times to do the work. Since I realized that our yard would not require 8 hours' worth of work, I felt really good about buying the deal. It felt like a win because I would end up with a refund if they didn't use all the hours and that refund could be applied to other services. The next week, I got a call from the vendor that they had already walked our property while we weren't home and wanted to meet with me in person for a second meeting to discuss providing other services such as mulching. The second meeting was scheduled for April 8th at 10am. | |We met and I showed them the areas I wanted to be sure got cleaned up and that we were holding off on scheduling a party at our home until all the weeds and leaves were cleaned up. I specified that I wanted my flower beds cleaned. I also shared that we would let them know if we wanted to move forward with mulching services at a later time. I didn't want to spend more than the $280 without actually having a sense of the quality of work the vendor would provide. They indicated they understood what yard work needed to be done and that they would return on Wednesday, April 15th and that it would not take the entire 8 hours to clean my yard. They also commented that our yard was in very good condition and that we did not really need yard work to get our yard ready for a party. I shared that I wanted all the leaves gone from our beds and all weeds taken care of because I wanted our yard to look as nice as possible. | |On Monday, April 13th, I came home and "thought" the yard looked different, but when I checked the only area in the yard that had leaves that needed to be removed and saw they were still there I didn't think anything else of it other than they hadn't had a chance to clean our yard. I also checked the flower beds on the front of the house to see leaves and trash still mixed into the branches of our bushes so I did not think the team had been there. I didn't think anything else of it because I wasn't expecting them to work in my yard until Wednesday (which is the day they told me they mow in my neighborhood/city). | |They arrived on Thursday, April 16th to begin mowing and weeding. I was really glad to see them get started working since it was a day later than when I expected them. 3 guys arrived at 7:30am (unexpectedly) and began mowing and weed eating our yard. They left at 8:45am and I immediately walked my property noting that there were still leaves along our fence line that needed to be picked up and there were leaves and small pieces of trash in my flower beds at the front of our house. | |I called the vendor around 9:30am on April 16th thinking that this was their first visit and since the leaves didn't get picked up (or the flower beds cleaned) I wanted to be sure that didn't get "forgotten" on the second visit. When I talked to the vendor, they indicated that they had already been out and cleaned up my yard and that the mowing and weeding was their last scheduled visit to our property. | |After sharing my concerns about the quality of the work with the vendor, they indicated they would come back out and walk our property later that day or the next day to ensure everything got taken care of by the foreman the next time they returned. They shared that they thought we wanted the gum balls picked up from the yard and they had already done that before the team came to mow and weed the yard. I was a little confused because picking up gum balls but leaving the leaves was NOT 8 hours worth of work and SURELY this is not rocket science. Everyone wants leaves removed from their yard if they buy a deal that says "Leaf Removal" in the name. They indicated they didn't realize the leaves were left in the back yard because they did not check that area of our yard so they would return to clean it up. | |On Wednesday, April 22nd, I received an invoice in the mail for $102 dollars for weeding and mowing. I immediately called the vendor asking if the invoice was sent in error. He indicated that his team had worked in our yard on Monday, April 20th and cleared all leaves and that they had done 6 hours worth of work so the mowing and weeding were extra. How they calculate hours/costs is that for each person they send, the hours are per person. 3 guys x 2 hours each = 6 hours of work even though they are only actually at your house for 2 hours. In reality, if the 3 guys are lazy OR are over-scheduled for 2 hours at 10-15 different houses in a given day, you still get billed the hours regardless of the quality of work. You actually do better have 1 guy work 6 hours because he has no one else to depend on to get the work done you don't have to worry as much about him scheduling so many yards back to back in the same day. | |We got charged $382 for 2 actual hours of people being in our yard and 1.25 hours for mowing and weeding in which one guy only mowed for 25 minutes (I actually watched them do the work) and the other guy used a heavy duty weedeater along our driveway and small walkway in our backyard leading to the back door from the gate. I am still not sure what the 3rd guy did! I guess even if only one guy is working and the other two are waiting for him, you get charged for all 3 people being there. Additionally, I am not sure how we got an invoice before we got a "refund" of the 2 remaining hours on our deal. | |Needless to say, I have to rake my own fence line this weekend and clean my own flower beds because the same pieces of trash and leaves that were there before I bought this deal on Angie's List are still there and awaiting removal and now I am out of $280. (They tried to charge us $102 for the mowing and weeding but we refused to pay the $102). | |I realize that this deal is probably best if you want someone to clean a vacant lot with lots of trash or the yard of vacant building surrounded by Oak trees. There is no universe in which I would of spent almost $400.00 for the very very very little yard work that was done had I just bid out the work the old fashioned way by asking for a yard man by referral. At most, I probably would of gotten charged between $50 - $100 dollars. | |The part that is the most frustrating is that I STILL have to clean my flower beds and rake my yard myself and the multiple calls to the vendor to try and get this corrected are NOT how I want to spend our time! | |FYI, they also charge 15% late fee if you don't pay them but they do not given written estimates when they meet with you. | | |
