Initially, the deck work looked fine, but in two months all the decking boards were warped and cupped. Parnell came back, with a representative from the Gallatin Lowes (source of the wood he used) and a representative of Georgia/Pacific, Lowes' source of the wood. They agreed to replace the decking, this was completed by the end of the summer. Decking was sealed with Thompson's as directed by G/P representative. By this summer, the deck was warping, boards were shrinking, and it became a disaster. The deck was sealed again this summer (2010). The deck is unsafe for use since some of the decking boards have shrunk beyond the joists holding them and the ends of others stick up and are a tripping hazard. In addition, the 4" X 4" vertical posts holding the railing have split and some have shrunk to the point of making some railing loose. Ray Parnell of Precision Applications has refused to respond to my complaint. I have sent him the attached pictures and others and asked him what we should do now and after two weeks I sent a second message indicating my disappointment with his lack of response and he left me no choice but to post this on Angie's List. Frankly $8,000.00 for a relatively large deck that, after one year is now dangerous and needs to be replaced, is a rip off. The attached pictures show a small fraction of the problems.
Description of Work: Construction of a wooden deck (25' wide X 18' deep) with 3 steps down from the pool area and 9 steps down to backyard. The deck was adjacent to the pool deck with three steps down to the deck itself -- these steps were full deck width, 25.' The stairs to the back yards are 8 steps down from the deck to the yard. Both these steps and the deck had railing and spindles as per Hendersonville code.
