Bertin has painted interior and exterior of three of my houses in Franklin over the years. He is the most responsive and most professional service I have ever used. Amazing work and fantastic team of painters.

We were not certain of the stain color we wanted so Bertin offered to apply a couple of small swatches on the door once it was stripped and said we could choose then. He said to let him know what colors we wanted to see and he would make sure his crew had those colors. The work was to begin on a Monday and I sent him two colors by text over the weekend. When the workers showed up on Monday he had not communicated that to them so that slowed the process down as they had to go out and get the stain. That was the beginning of our communication problems. Bertin had estimated that the first day of the job should be complete by 2:00 PM. This time was important to us as we had a previous commitment that would require us to leave the house by 3:30 and to do the work the door had to be off it's frame. The first day's work was going slower than had been anticipated but the crew did not notify us of that. We had to contact Bertin (who was not on site... but which was not a problem for us) to get an update. He said stripping and preparing the door was taking longer than he thought it would. I told him I understood how that could happen. We changed our plans so the workers could continue to work. They finished up the day at about 6:30. There was additional work, which had been planned and we knew about) on subsequent days which seemed to go pretty well. The door originally looked great but within the first 36 hours the stain had gassed and there were significant bubbles in the polyurethane. Bertin sent someone back to address the problem. They sanded extensively and applied another coat of polyurethane. Because of the sanding the stain was inconsistent not only from piece to piece but on the same piece. I asked Bertin to come look at the door and offer his opinion as to whether the work was done correctly. He said in his opinion it was but I told him I was unhappy with the quality of the work. He agreed to redo the door. The following week was Easter week and we had guests in our home and couldn't have the door off during the week so he agreed to come back the following week. During our conversation he told me his crew had felt pressured to finish the work too quickly. I apologized for any way I might have contributed to that impression but our only concern about the time had been on the first day when we had been told that the work should be done by 2:00 and we had to change our plans to accommodate the longer time. When I tried to contact him the Monday after Easter he did not return my texts or my phone message. Over the next week I tried to reach him by phone, text and email with no response. He had previously replied to all these types of communications. I finally emailed him and told him that if he felt like the job had been done in a professional manner then I would honor the agreement and if he would send me his address I would mail him a check for the work. It was not my intent to get something for nothing. To date there has still been no response. We both lost on this. We still need to have our door finished. We had also had Bertin give us some quotes to perform some additional interior painting. Even with the problems we had with the door we would have more than likely had him also do our interior painting if he had make the door right. So I lost a painter who I think can do excellent work and his crew did a job he didn't get paid for. Too sad.
Description of Work: We hired Bertin to refinish our entry door. He had recently repainted our exterior trim, windows, etc. and we were very satisfied with the work. A separate review is here on Angie's List. The door needed to be removed, stripped, stained, and sealed. He offered to do the job for about $400 which we thought was a very fair price and we agreed that we would have him do the work.
