Better Built Homes

Description of Work: My husband and I purchased a home for 182,000 from John McCollum and Marshall R. Moss of Better Built Homes. $1000 was added to the purchase price of the house to pay for a refrigerator. This was added to the purchase contract and signed by both Mr. McCollum and Mr. Moss. There was also a 2 year warranty that went with the purchase of the house. This included anything that went wrong with the house. This was also signed by both Mr. McCollum and Mr. Moss. I contacted Mr. McCollum a couple of weeks after we moved in and told him that the light in the upstairs bedroom closet was not working. I informed him that I tried changing the light bulb and it still did not work. He told me that he would be in the area in the next few weeks and he would come by an fix it. He never did come. I contacted him numerous times and he did not respond to phone calls. I also tried to contact him through the decorator that he worked with. Needless to say it is now almost 2 years later and the light still has not been repaired. The last time I spoke to Mr. McCollum he informed me that he was not going to repair the light because he had to pay for a refrigerator that he did not agree to. This was just his excuse. I have the contracts that were signed by both contractors that clearly state the warranty and the addition of the refrigerator to the contract. He informed me that he would rather pay a lawyer $5000 than to fix the light. These contractors are clearly not men of their word and the contract they signed that is filed with the mortgage is clearly not worth the paper it was written on.
