We decided to have our yard upgraded after experiencing extensive mole damage. Andy O'Connor, owner of The Lawn Rangers, came by and gave us an estimate which we accepted. The proposal included spraying the existing yard with RoundUp, Aerating the yard, TOP DRESSING THE ENTIRE LAWN WITH APPROX. 2" OF SCREENED TOP SOIL, seeding. liming and installing one crepe myrtle. All was going well until the ALLEGED screened top soil was dumped in our yard and spread around by Mr. O'Connor's crew. I watched with concern as one of the workers reached down and removed a piece of wire, approximately 2 1/2 to 3 feet in length, from the recently dumped SCREENED top soil! Figuring that the worker would report the incident to Mr. O'Connor and take care to check the remainder of the soil, I allowed the soil to be spread and subsequently seeded. Mr. O'Connor had said that he would have the yard rolled to level the areas that had been torn up by the moles, but that never happened. The next Spring, after the lawn had grown out a bit, my wife and I began surveying the yard more carefully. We found numerous stones, slate shards and pieces of glass just within one small portion of the yard. When we showed these items to Mr. O'Connor he said that he was not able to get truly screened top soil in our area! I asked him for the provider he used. I took a small bucket of stones, slate and glass to the soil provider and asked if the screened top soil that he offers should include such debris and the man said that if that came from soil he had provided he would have "made things right"! In addition to the top soil problem, we felt that the seed used by The Lawn Rangers was inferior because we had a large percentage of the yard covered with onion grass and other weeds. Mr. O'Connor had another company come out and spray the yard, killing the onion grass, but the amount of other weeds still seemed extraordinary. We complained to Mr. O'Connor on numerous occasions, but his response was that he didn't know what he could do to "make us happy". We told him that we had paid him for the screened top soil that he had included in his proposal, but that had not been provided. He did not offer to refund any of our payment, nor did he attempt to "make things right", as his supplier said that he would do. The crepe myrtle that Mr. O'Connor provided did not survive the winter and he did replace that. The other shrubs that he had planted are doing well to this day.
