My wife and I have both been very happy with the result of Mr. Ridenour's work. Our basement is like a totally new space for us. The problems we associated with carpet (odors, dampness, etc.) are gone and now we have a floor that is not only beautiful, but very easy to maintain and clean. We have waited several months before filing this report just to see how the floor holds up and how it wears and we have not been disappointed. It still looks great and traffic doesn't seem to phase it. To our great pleasure, Mr. Ridenour turned out to be a joy to work with. He went out of his way to accommodate our schedule and always showed up at our house when he had promised. He said it would take about four days to finish including dry time and in four days, he was done. He was professional and courteous and extremely friendly in his performing this job. In fact, I felt like we had made a new friend by the time he was done and leaving.
Description of Work: My wife and I were faced with having to re-floor our basement. We had not been happy with the carpet that we had initially put in and my wife had the idea that refinishing the concrete might be best. Yes, she watches entirely too much HGTV. We looked into it and from what we could find in the way of literature and information on the internet, it looked promising. The first contractor we called out burst our bubble almost immediately because he said our floors were too old and beaten up. He told us that the best time to finish concrete is when is has just dried from being poured. Ours was in pretty bad shape. There were stains from various spills and the carpet pad had been glued in spots and stapled in others. Plus the tack strips along the perimeter of the walls left holes and marks. Mr. Ridenour looked at our floors and said he could do it, no problem. All would be required would be cleaning the floor enough that a skim coat of concrete would attach to the original slab. He assured us he had an etch that would clean the floor providing the necessary bonding surface. Plus, one corner of the slab had broken and one edge was a quarter-inch higher than the rest of the floor. Again, "no problem" and he sanded it down smooth and filled the crack with a type of epoxy that not only sealed, but also bonded the two pieces together. Once the old surface was cleaned, he applied the skim coat. He finished the skim coat as we had asked and when it was dry, applied the stain. Later, when that was dry, he covered the floor with a sealant. In three days dry time, the floor was ready for furniture to be moved back into place.
