By the time he left, in mid January, the trees were down & the ground was quite bumpy w/mud. When I asked about the bumpy ground, he told me it would smooth as it dried. They also made ruts & divits in our already established lawn which have not smoothed out. There was never an offer to come back & smooth out the ground & make it passable w/the riding lawnmower. He did clear the land, but did not smooth the ground. He said he would replace 3 of the trees he cut down after I asked him to do that, however, one of them has died & has left me without the flowering trees I had hoped to have that were already on the land. When the stumpgrinder came I sat down & typed up a contract for not only him but also for the original contractor about the rest that needed done which they signed. Nothing was said in the beginning about paying a stumpgrinder. That should have been part of his cost as that was part of the job he estimated for. I was very disappointed in the results. there needs to be top soil put down to smooth the ruts & divits , but I have no more money left to do that. If he had had a contract written up & put ALL THE EXPENSES in it, we would have known about the added expenses in advance. Overall I would never recommend him to anyone. He may be licensed & have the equipment, but he didn't follow thru on what he told me.
Description of Work: Mr. Rodgers was the 2nd contractor I had come out to give an estimate, $3950.00 for the job. He estimated 2 weeks working time, no payment required till job was finished & land would be smooth for my husband to mow. He seemed knowledgable about trees & we discussed which trees would stay & which would go. All the flowering trees, mostly dogwoods (about 20 - 25), & some maples (one he estimated was worth $500.00) would stay & the ground would be left smooth so it could be mowed easily. There was no written contract, I took him at his word. He told me about other people who he did work for & how happy they were. We were new to the area & didn't know anyone to ask, so took his word for it. Always have a written contract & signed stating all details of what his money covers & what it doesn't. The 2 weeks turned into 3 months as we had some rain & snow during that time. There was no marking of trees to save. Nearly all the dogwoods were cut down as well as the maples, including the expensive one. Piles of trees for burning were created & set & they left. I had to call them to come check the burn piles before they would come back. There were stumps all over & he called a stump grinder, however, that was not part of the estimate. I had to pay extra for that job, ($500.00 more). Most of the stumps got taken care of except for the small vine stumps which his bobcat could have removed, however he didn't' do that. He asked for money prior to Christmas & then again after Christmas. I paid him 1/2 prior to Christmas even tho' he had said he wouldn't ask for payment until the job was done but held the rest til the job was as finished as he was going to do. Because I foolishly believed that the land would smooth as it dried, when he asked if there was anything else I wanted him to do I told him no. I expected the land to smooth out as it dried which is what he told me. That of course never happened.
