Bathroom remodel to remove tile walls and olive green cast iron tub. We provided the paint, flooring, vanity, light fixture and faucets. Gary's estimate was detailed and included the cost of demolition down to the studs, disposal of debris, purchase and installation of tub and tile, replacement of galvanized pipes in walls of this bathroom and the master bath (since the plumbing was exposed with the tear out), drywall installation and finishing. The work also included the purchase and replacement of 4 wooden porch columns with cast columns. So far we are very pleased with the quality of the work and attention to detail. The project took less than 2 weeks and we plan to contact him for future projects.

The floors cupped soon after the installation. We then found out that the installer did not do any moisture testing to ensure the conditions were acceptable for the installation. After the floors had cupped and people started coming in to determine/address the cause, they found (when measured) that the sub floors had high moisture content relative to the hardwood which is not acceptable for an installation. This installer did not check the moisture content of the sub floor prior to installing the hardwood and told me that he only bought an instrument for testing after this installation had been done/ cupping brought to his attention so he wasn?t even equipped to do the installation using necessary checks at the start. Later, I found out that the instructions that are printed on each box of flooring are very specific concerning site conditions and the acceptable moisture content of all wood. The instructions also say that moisture conditions are the most important factor to the success or failure of an installation. I did find a hard wood flooring inspector and he was very helpful and pointed me to the fact that there are written manufacturer instructions concerning this and that the installer is responsible for checking it. The inspector also advised that the National Wood Flooring Association gives very specific guidance on checking for moisture content as well as other requirements. The inspection report also stated that the crawl space was not inspected by the installer prior to the floor installation (the inspector called and spoke with my contact for Edge). I think it is noteworthy to mention that I found out after the installation, that my crawl space had what I consider blatant concerns if a hardwood floor was to be installed over it. The inspection report stated that the cupping is due to the installation. I did invest a lot of time and money to mitigate the damage to the floors and avoid replacing or refinishing the floors. However, the cupped hardwood still looked bad and needed to be repaired which I finally got done in August 2013. I had several different flooring companies and general contractors look at the floors to make suggestions on what could be done & the recommendations ranged from refinish to replace (I went with refinish). I did receive a check from Edge in March 2014 at my request to refund the amount paid for the initial installation ($3,172).
Description of Work: The contractor installed app. 1,000 sq. ft. of pre-finished hardwood floors. The installation cost was $3,172 and the hardwood flooring material cost $4,439 (I paid the retail company directly for the material) = so total investment was $7,611.
