It rained a lot last spring which caused delays in the company being able to start. This is totally NOT their fault, of course, they can't control the weather, but I think being behind schedule due to the rain led to work being rushed, causing a lot of problems in the end. The sub-contractors who actually installed the fence had a habit of never coming to my door to let me know they were there, I just woke up or came home to find people in my yard or that work had been done. I came home from work to find my fence completely installed on 3/30/09, unfortunately with the wrong picket spacing. Since no one told me they would be there I couldn't stop them in time to make sure the correct spacing was used - of course that meant a ton of rework for the company. The owner did come and very nicely talked over the spacing, but I received no call beforehand so I didn't know to be there while they worked and the salesmen did not clearly communicate what I wanted with the spacing in the contract. In April 09 they came back, again without calling and pulled the pickets off and redid them. I happened to open my front door just as one workman was unplugging his power saw from the outlet on my house and we walked the fence. Again, a nice guy as we went through and marked pickets that were split and needed to be replaced along 1/4 of the fence. I didn't get to inspect the remaining 3/4 as I ran an errand when I came back they were "done" and gone. A few days after they finished redoing the pickets I noticed that they failed to install all the bolts for the gate hardware and that the gate pickets were uneven. I emailed Yardbird and received a reply that someone would be out there to correct that issue for me. The day after I emailed, they stained my fence again without calling and charged my credit card for the remaining balance without me inspecting or approving the work. The stain was poorly applied, uneven and in many areas they stopped the stain up to 4 inches above the ground, exposing the wood to the elements. I contacted them again and asked that the still missing bolts be put in and that the stain needed to be redone. After multiple requests by phone or email requesting that the missing bolts be installed and the stain issues fixed I filed a complaint with the BBB. The responses from the female office manager were rude, poorly written and filled with spelling errors. In the end the BBB closed my complaint due to the fact that my account was paid in full as well as Yardbird Fencing making the claim that since it was paid in full using my credit card number (without my consent that) I had somehow approved the poor workmanship. My fence is still missing the bolts, the gate pickets are still uneven and now my entire fence has a black scum on it due the poor stain job and a cold, snowy winter. I really think that had there been better communication from the beginning this might have turned out to be a pleasant experience.
Description of Work: Provided an in home estimate, installed and stained a 4 foot picket fence. The end result of my fence building experience with Yardbird Fences & Decks was disappointing.
