He arrived early and took his time doing the job. We are very pleased with how the shutters turned out. I would most definitely recommend this company and would use them again.

Handyman Jim was quick to respond to my inquiry and set up a mutually agreeable time to do the estimate. He asked for 1/2 of the money up front after providing an estimate. Scheduling was a bit difficult because he doesn't work after 5 or on the weekends. He asked us to go to our local Lowes and pick out doors in advance. My husband and I went online and found the doors we wanted and thought they were in stock. I provided him with the stock number about 2 weeks prior to his service date. 30 minutes prior to his scheduled arrival, he called and told me that the doors I wanted were not in stock. I had to quickly do another online search and find 2 different doors that were in stock at my local store. He sounded quite aggravated and told that that was the exact reason why he told me to go to the store. I still feel apologetic about the mix-up, but honestly thought he would have picked up the doors when I informed him of my choices originally - not at the last minute. He was pleasant, if a little gruff, when he arrived. He got to work immediately, as it had started to rain. He got the vinyl siding quickly replaced, the back door installed and installed the locks. He did not seem to mind my questions and took the time to explain what was done incorrectly (or shoddily) when my house was built - and how it should have been done properly. After he finished installing the front door, he started working on the front porch post. I was a little taken aback that he did not take off the doors or door frames to the dump. He broke them down to manageable 8 ft lengths, but left them for me to haul off. Even the doors. To me, that was just something that I expected that he would have done. Later that afternoon, he finished up the post. A bit of vinyl siding trim broke, and so he stuck it back in place and hammered a white nail in to hold it in place. That bothered me a bit, as it looked akilter, but it was very unpleasant weather an we were both tired. Over the weekend, I noticed a few things that were bothersome to me...a large gap between the vinyl siding trim an the door frame in which the plywood showed. I started having difficulty with the deadbolt and door handle being hard to turn - as in it took all my might to turn the key or press the lever down on the door handle .There was also a gap in the siding where the post was replaced. I texted him my concerns and sent photos. He told me to buy new locks. I texted back that they worked fine prior to swapping out the doors and could he just check the installation. He did not respond for 3 days. During that time, I had to finagle the deadbolt by realigning it in the predrilled door knob holes to get it to work properly. On the 4th day, he asked if I could be there the following day. Made arrangements to be there...then he texted early that morning with a stomach bug. Not a big deal, I was still able to go to work on time. 9 days later, he asked if I could be at my house that day. I responded no, and he asked about the next day. I arranged to take off of work ,and he showed up promptly that morning. He nailed the vinyl siding to the frame - looks great. He put caulking over the gap in the siding. The door locks were another matter. He says that the set I had was useless and that's why he TOLD ME TO GET NEW ONES! However, he was able to use extra parts he had to make my set work. It still is difficult to turn the deadbolt but I feel sure it will not totally freeze up on me. He charged me $10 for parts. To summarize: the work I requested done was completed to my satisfaction.
Description of Work: He removed our old warped front and back doors and installed new ones. He swapped out the locks from the old doors to the new. He replaced a damaged piece of vinyl siding. He replaced a rotten porch post.

My husband and I are not handy when it comes to doing tasks such as those described. Jim has over 23 years of experience and only has 3 or 4 employees. Jim himself came out to my house, wrote up the estimate and performed the work. He was very punctual regarding providing the estimate and performing the work. I have asked him to give us an estimate on doing some concrete work for us in the future.
Description of Work: He: (1) replaced and hung a pocket door; (2) replaced 3 door knob assemblies; (3) shimmed three doors which wouldn't latch due to settlement; (4) shimmed/rehung an outside deck door which wouldn't seal and adjusted the latch; (5) replaced a light switch; (6) replaced the front door sweep which required taking the door off its hinges.

I was looking for some work to be done around the house. I called around to another well known company and they could not schedule me for an appraisal for over a week. I found Handyman Jim in the phone book and he showed up the same day. His price quote was reasonable.
Description of Work: I needed to have my window shutters replaced and some maintenance done on a couple of windows.

Mr. Nolan completed the repairs for a fair price and an acceptable time, however, the quality of work is seriously lacking. The sheetrock fit in the den is fine, the popcorn finish he applied is completely different than the texture on the rest of the ceiling. I will have to scrape his finish off and apply new myself, then finish with paint so the repairs do not stand out. The repairs to the chimney and siding, while they look OK, not great, but OK are not sufficient. Last major rain storm the flashing around the chimney leaked and now I have to replace the sheetrock again. Fence repair is functional but not pleasant to look at. Mr. Nolan used salvaged lumber from the old fence and it looks like it is, a patch job. The boards are uneven and ragged at the bottom. He was going to leave the leftover fence scraps in the yard until I asked him to haul the trash away.
Description of Work: Contracted to replace/repair vinyl siding, ceiling sheetrock, and wooden fence and gate. Storm damage had torn off vinyl siding on the chimney of the house, had two large sections of sheetrock in the den ceiling where tree limbs had penetrated and a large section of the fence and gate that had been destroyed by falling trees. Jim repaired the siding on the chimney and placed a chimney cap on it. He also installed two sections of sheetrock in the den ceiling and patched the fence and gate.
