.Ely's came out and found the problem with our brand-new fridge and fixed it. He was very diverse in his knowledge about so many different brands. He came to the house the same day that we called him.

It didn't go at all! Ely's representative seemed professional and business-like when I spoke by phone with him, but when he didn't know where I was or what the problem I had called him about was, I became concerned that he didn't remember he had set an 8 am appointment with me - don't know if he didn't keep a record of the appointment or what was going on. Had told him about the type of washing machine I had, its age and the issues it was having - would have thought he would write that information down and come to my house prepared. I don't have time to spare and needed him to be reliable and on target with what was happening.
Description of Work: Contacted Ely's by phone on Friday, June 3, asking for help with my washing machine which had developed problems. I was surprised, but happy, when he offered to come to my home to look at it that evening - between 6 and 8 pm. I left work early to be there on time and waited. Was about to call him when he called me - at 7:45 pm - to say that he'd had a flat tire. I said we could re-schedule, so we set a time of 8 a.m. on Monday, June 6. On Monday, I stayed home from work, awaiting his arrival. At 8:30 am. I sensed that he was not en route to my house, so called him. When he answered, I told him who I was and asked if he could estimate the time when he could be at my house. He then asked me where I was and what my problem was which was information I'd given him when I spoke with him the prior week. I gave him a brief rundown on the washing machine's problems. He then said he could be at my house in 20 minutes. I told him I had to go to my job and had expected that he would be at my home close to 8 am. He said we could re-schedule and I told him I'd think about that and possibly get back to him in a few days. He said he would "work with" me on that - ? I'd found Ely's on the Internet, but had forgotten that I had just subscribed to Angie's List, so logged in hoping to find a reliable repairperson when I noticed that Ely's has been evaluated here before, so decided to add my experience to the list.

The technician arrived late to our house from the estimated time. He looked at the refrigerator and then called me at work to discuss the problem. He told me that I needed a new motor for the dispenser which was no surprise. He also told me that I needed a new ice maker unit. I immediately found this to be suspect as my ice maker was working just fine. In fact, too well. I explained to him that the refrigerator uses an IR sensor to detect when the ice bin is full and that I though that was not working. He responded with "oh, let me take a look at that". He called back a few minutes later with an estimate to repair ($318). I asked if that would be guaranteed to fix the problem and he responded yes. I told him to go ahead and fix it. He said they would have to order the parts and be back on Friday to repair it. That was the last we ever heard from them. I am actually relieved since we were not charged for the service call either. I should have stuck with Sears from the outset.
Description of Work: I have a refrigerator ice maker that would continue to make ice even though the bin was full. The ice dispenser in the door also is not working. I had Ely's come out to tell me what was wrong and to give me an estimate on the repairs.

A horrible experience... Called on the phone to get a quote. Price was quoted at aprox $330. Service man came out and took 5 hours to replace the refrigerator pump. When replacing pump he used an oxy-acedaline torch which sprayed black soot all over our kitchen and dining room. Pump was removed, and replaced, but upon replacement the service man only put back in one of the four bolts that attach it to the refrigerator. On top of that I was charged $60 more than quoted. I had to call the service man back a second time because the refrigerator was low on freon and still not working correctly. After second repair refrigerator works but I would NEVER use this company again.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced refrigerator pump which required freon to be removed and replaced.
