Company Profile Affordable Aire Heating and Cooling specializes in residential and light commercial comfort control, including sales, service, and installation of heating and air conditioning equipment and accessories. We are experts in the art of installing these systems in existing homes, with an emphasis on maximum comfort and energy savings for our customers. We can perform repairs on most any brand, and we mainly serve Clarksville/Montgomery County, Tennessee. We offer free estimates for installing or replacing heating and air conditioning equipment. Our Company is a member of ACCA (Air Conditioning Contractors of America) and TVA Quality Contractor Network. We also are a member of the Better Business Bureau of Middle Tennessee and the National Federation of Independent Business. Our owner, Tad Dial, holds a Tennessee Master Mechanical License, as well as a Universal License for refrigerant handling from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. We are licensed by the State of Tennessee for electrical work and by the City of Clarksville for natural gas piping. Description of Work: Bought another house and the previous owners didn't have the hvac checked like they were supposed to before closing. I called Affordable and they worked me into the schedule two days later. The unit had been acting up when I first moved in, he found the problem and fixed it. I'm very happy with the results and will be doing the fall/spring tuneup from now on!

They went to our rental in a timely manner, discovered the problem, and gave us an estimate. We told them to complete the work, which they did immediately and sent us a receipt for the work.

They did a wonderful job! Affordable is honest, and their prices are really amazing compared to other companies in this area. All of their employees have been accommodating and professional. They’ve gone above and beyond on several occasions, and their office is really great about following up with clients. Also, they offer military discounts.

Took 5+ or more visits with multiple reps not finding the problem, after about 10-12+ hours labor to try to find the problem. They were nice enough to leave most all the screws out. Affordable Aire rep even tried to freeze my outdoor optionaly installed temp sensor to kick the HVAC into defrost mode ! They obviously did not know where the actual Temp/Ice sensor was even after I told them that this was not it. I did not have to pay for additional labor, but any other job would have fired me for missing so many days of work in such a short time. I did have a huge electric bill as the heater ran in emergency heat mode most of the week. I got a new company, and the rep found the problem in under a minute with his eyes closed (No Joke). The new contractor representative stated that it is the first place you look for my problem.
Description of Work: Attempted over several house calls to fix the problem of heater blowing cold air in the middle of winter. The inside air temp around 50 degrees with emergency heat running. Not 100% certain of the date. Paid the $75 required trip charge under home warranty plan.

We are sorry this customer had a bad experience. Many times problems with heating systems, especially if they are electronic in nature, can show up intermittently. If the problem is not occurring while we are there at the home, and we are unable to duplicate the conditions, then it can be tough to solve a problem that isn't showing itself at the time. Our records show that we were out there 3 times over a period of about 3 weeks; the customer was only charged once. On the second visit, the system WAS displaying a problem, and the defrost control board was replaced. On the third visit, no problem could be found so there was nothing we could do. As far as this statement: "Affordable Aire rep even tried to freeze my outdoor optionaly installed temp sensor to kick the HVAC into defrost mode ! They obviously did not know where the actual Temp/Ice sensor was even after I told them that this was not it." On certain thermostats and systems, the optional outdoor temperature sensor DOES control certain aspects of system operation, including whether or not backup electric heat comes on or not, so the technician was trying to make sure he checked every aspect of the operation of the system; in other words, was trying to do a thorough job. Unfortunately, this customer's experience may also be colored and clouded by the fact that this service work was done through a home warranty company. Many times we are called in by home warranty companies after they've already sent another company out to the same job, and we have to straighten out what the other company has done. It is also unfortunate that most customers equate us as BEING the home warranty company, and confuse us with the other company that has been sent out; thus, we often get blamed for what another company did. I do not know that this is the case in this instance, but where the customer is describing 5+ visits where we show only three, it is possible. I think the sarcastic statement "They were nice enough to leave most all the screws out" pretty well sums up the demeanor of this customer's post, as well as makes me doubt that all of the experience could be attributed solely to our company, as we carry replacement screws on our trucks and generally are the ones replacing missing screws, not the ones leaving them out. It is unfortunate that this customer did not try to contact us directly to voice their concerns; we take customer satisfaction very seriously and would've worked diligently to make them happy. I would also point out that the address listed for this customer is in Virginia, whereas we are located in Tennessee, as is the property address we show listed with the same name as his. This makes it quite possible that this was a rental property of the homeowner's, and they might not have even been there while the work was being done, which would make it even easier to confuse one company with another. As we are still doing work for the same home warranty company, I think it is obvious that we are not in the habit of doing poor work or being dishonest with customers. Our continued high Better Business Burea rating also reflects the quality of our work. Thank you.

I'm bad with names which is not good today as I would like to single out my service person for duties above and beyond. My service tech arrived on time and ready to resolve my heat pump issues but that was the least that he accomplished. While servicing my unit an 11 year old boy fell off his bike and fractured his wrist. My service tech not only raced to assist this poor youngster but stayed by his side and rendered assistance while allowing me to contact emergency services for a response. In our society it's rare to see people get involved but there was no hesitation just performance. He gave the same care and performance to my equipment as well. My hat goes off to is service tech and city guardian. God bless you!!!

I called Affordable Aire because my AC unit stopped working. Their technician came to my house, inspected the unit and told me I would need a new compressor and outdoor fan motor at a total cost of over $1000. A family member suggested I get a second opinion so I did. I called a different company, they sent out a technician and within 2 minutes of his arrival he determined the compressor was fine and did not need to be replaced. Five minutes later, the A/C was blowing cold air in my house. I don't know if Affordable Aire was trying to scam money because they knew I was desperate (The temperature in my house was 92 when they showed up) or if they are just incompetent. Either way, people in Clarksville should know there are better options for Heating and A/C repair.? --Update on 10 December 2010-- To further clarify, the A/C did need a new outdoor fan motor but the compressor (diagnosed as needing to be replaced by Affordable Aire) was fine. The fix applied by the second A/C company was a temporary solution to get the house to a reasonable temperature until they could come out two days later and fully repair the unit. Affordable Aire said in their response that their technician could not get the compressor to reset. The bottom line is another company was able to do something that Affordable Aire's technician was either unable or unwilling to do. I'm not sure what Affordable Aire is saying in their response. One one hand they say they couldn't get the compressor to reset. Fortunately for me the second company had no problem resetting the compressor. On the other hand they say they don't believe in temporarily fixing things. That is a pretty strong statement from a company who admits they 'fixed' the unit in 2006.. again in 2008.. and then came out a third time in 2010 to "permanently fix" the same unit before the owners finally got fed up. I'm not sure I like Affordable Aire's definition of "permanent." I believe in hiring a company who is going to work with me and explain all of my options. What if the temporary solution, while not ideal, was the only solution I could afford? Am I to believe that, even if the technician could get the unit running on a temporary basis, he wouldn't have "patched it up" to make the temperature in the house bearable until it could be permanently fixed? Thats what the other company did. In fact, I was so impressed with the second company, I bought a completely new A/C unit from them and have been saving over $50/month on my electric bill when compared to my bills at the same time last year. I am also getting a nice income tax deduction this year because I installed a more energy efficient unit. I believe Affordable Aire's own response further supports my original statement that there are better options for heating and A/C repair in Clarksville. I wish I could name the company I ended up using but I do not want to risk this honest review of Affordable Aire being seen as an advertisement for another company. I implore anyone reading this review to explore ALL options when looking for heating and air conditioner service.

I am sorry this customer is unhappy, as we strive for complete customer satisfaction. For the record, we had been doing work at this address going back as far as 2006 for a home warranty company, and apparently with no complaints, as we were there and fixed other problems in 2008. In our database this address is listed under a different name, so I don't know if this person is a renter, a friend of the prior customer, or a new owner of the home. No, we are not a company who "scams" people, as evidenced by the other customer who posted a review here on Angies List and by our high rating with the Better Business Bureau. From the notes in our database it appears the compressor had an open circuit due to an overload that had opened and would not reset at the time our tech was out there, along with a possible fan motor problem. With no way of knowing what the other company did, there is no way to know whether what they did got the system working on a temporary basis or it was a permanent fix. We believe in fixing them correctly, not "patching them up"-we find that most customers prefer that.

About 2yrs ago our upstairs AC unit went out in Aug. Our home warranty company sent someone out who didn't know what they were doing originally. After some frustration with the aforementioned someone our warranty company finally sent out Affordable Aire to clean up the first persons mess. Affordable Aire was so great to us and fixed our unit immediately by replacing the transformer. (Apparently a very important part of an AC unit.) Unfortunately it didn't last due to bad wiring which burnt out the transformer again. After another trip out a day or two later they found what the real problem was and made an appoitment to come out the very next day to work on the wiring. The man who came was upstairs in our attic for at least 3 hours in some of the hottest weather we've had in a long time. He finally got it fixed for us. And took the time to try and explain what exactly he did after being up there so long. When our unit was having trouble this past winter I called my home warranty company again and they sent out the same company. It was a different person, but they were just as knowledgeable, polite and helpful as the first person. He even changed the light bulb in our attic for me where our unit is at and explained to me in detail what was wrong with it and how I might could try to fix the problem myself next time it if happened again. Apparently there is a switch on the Heating/AC unit that trips off in case of a power surge. I would highly recommend this company to anyone having problems with their unit.
