Shuptrine's Framing and Restoration

Description of Work: I have had them perform several services - everything from commissioning art work to purchasing existing art work to framing.

Description of Work: I brought my grandmothers antique frame in, and owner Alan Shuptrine sat down with me and explained the whole process. He was able to date the frame, where it was made, and the materials that were originally used. He was able to also point out the original artisans frame making flaws, and explain exactly the steps he was going to take to make sure it was stabilized, restored, and antiqued back to the original period so it would look as close to natural as it should. The frame itself was in pretty bad condition. It had a lot of missing pieces, and chips knocked out of it from where it had been banged around for years. Alan explained that he rebuilds all the missing ornamentation, and then matches the new part to the existing patina... I'll admit that I didn't think it was possible, and that surly I would notice the repaired sections. When I went in to pick up my frame I was speechless! I looked and looked and I could not tell which parts were new and which were original - truly amazing! On top of having the missing ornamentation rebuilt, I also decided to have the entire frame re-gilded with 22Kt gold leaf, and then had an antiquing glaze applied over it to match the painting. The end result was something out of an art museum! Alan Shuptrine and his staff of skilled artisans are absolute miracle workers. The frame has never looked better, and I have never been happier! Money well spent! Notice: Everything at Shuptrine's is hand-made and 100% certified - the turn around time for a frame or a restoration project can be 3 weeks to a month. This place doesn't use machines, and it's definitely not a chop frame shop! Just keep that in mind. You are able to rush your job for an additional fee, but I just understood that master craftsmanship takes time, and I was thrilled with what came out of it!
