Chattanooga Handyman is owned and operated by David Young. I am happy to hang a picture for you or remodel an entire bathroom. I do not have a fleet of vans filled with an army of handymen, so I may not be the best choice to call if you need it done yesterday; however, if you want quality work with attention to detail, please give me a call. I am licensed, bonded, and insured (TN Home Improvement Contractor License #6999).

Description of Work: Installed laundry room cabinets, hung dining room chandelier and moved one light fixture. David returned our call promptly and arrived to do the work exactly when he said he would. He is very professional, described the work to be done and cleaned up when finished. David takes pride in his work and the results show this. We will certainly use David again when needed. We highly recommend him.

Response from Chattanooga Handyman
Thank you for leaving a review! I appreciate your feedback and am glad that you are pleased with the quality of the work that we did. I do appreciate your feedback regarding my pricing, and because you were less satisfied than I would like, I went back and reevaluated your charges. Your total bill included $94 in materials, which makes the labor charge $195. It took two of us a half day, or 8 man-hours, of labor. In addition, this $195 must cover travel time, gas, business overhead, time and gas spent for the initial trip to provide an estimate up front, etc. I wish that I could price my work such that you could award me an "A" for pricing. Unfortunately, in this instance, I would not have been able to reduce the cost and still make enough to keep my business operating. It was a pleasure working with you, and I am glad to have been able to help you with getting your house ready to put on the market. Best wishes as you finish your house and get it listed - I hope it sells quickly!

Description of Work: He was very nice but seemed to have a problem with awareness. I,E, I asked him to paint my outside door so it blended in with the rest of the house doors. The door was metal and was painted yellow. He painted the door, inside and out, and did a good job, but did not paint the frame of the door, inside or out. Those remained yellow. He fixed a leak in my ceiling and gave it one coat of paint. He was to come back and put one more coat but never did. I won't use him again. Although my jobs were small he clearly stated that he did all jobs, large or small, but I think he had too many large jobs. Very nice man, but I needed the work to be done completely.

Response from Chattanooga Handyman
Hello, I wish I could respond better to your review, but since it has been 2 years since I did the work, I honestly can't remember all the details about the work I did for you. I did pull up the invoices from the work, and the estimate I wrote for painting the doors, and that helps me a bit, so I'll do my best to respond. First, in April 2012 I did repair the drywall on the ceiling of the sunroom. I don't have any record of having painted it at all, and I honestly don't remember if I did or not, or how many coats. I do know that it was two months later when you hired me to sand, prime, and repaint the front door, and the following month in July to paint another door. If I was supposed to return to paint a second coat on the ceiling in April and didn't, it doesn't make sense to me that you would hire me to do another job two months later. Or that you wouldn't have asked me about painting the second coat when I returned to paint the doors. Are you sure that I was supposed to return to paint another coat and didn't? I don't remember that at all. Regarding the basement door, I think I remember your husband showing me all the doors to be painted, and I wrote up an estimate accordingly. The estimate states that the door jamb in the family room was to be painted, but the other jambs are not listed in the estimate. I don't know why that's how the estimate was written, again, this was two years ago, but I can only assume that he thought that jamb needed painting and the rest were fine. He decided to paint a few of the doors himself, including the family room door, so the door in the basement that I painted in July would not have included the jamb, per the estimate. After I finished the doors, your husband asked me to think about doing a job replacing some wood underneath the house. I decided not to pursue it because I didn't think I would be able to complete the job. As far as I knew, though, you were happy with my work, and if I had known otherwise I wouldn't have taken payment until you were happy. I can't remember having taken payment on a job that wasn't finished from any customer, ever. I can only remember one job where I even took money up front for materials - I prefer to take no money on my jobs until the job is finished and the customer is happy. I wish that any concerns had been expressed at the time so I could address them - I try very hard to make sure my customers are satisfied.
