It was really an aweful experience with this contractor. The nightmare never seems to end.
Description of Work: This provider was to install doors, windows, siding, shutters and gutters on our home. They sell you one window Titan series and switch out with a different window, we ordered a specific front door with metal glass pack and the company tried to switch it with a frosted glass door. Removed a back door that was 6 ft 3 in high and 32 in wide and replaced with a 5 ft 9 in high and 29 in wide door with huge gaps around the entire door. Temps (in house at ceiling) reached 109 degrees. Tore our house apart . Other major issues with this company.

Response from ADVANTAGE WINDOWS & DOORS
Let me start by stating that the member is not using her real name. This complaint is in retaliation to us filing suit against this member for THEFT BY CONVERSION, which means once the products the member agreed to were delivered to the member's address, the member refused to have them installed and attempted to sell them. The work to this member's home was never completed. Several attempts had been made to accommodate the member's requests. There was NEVER any attempt to install anything other than what the member originally ordered. We DID NOT and WILL NOT install anything other than what was agreed to. We do not use Bait and Switch tactics. This member then filed bankruptcy to avoid paying us This member is now in jail awaiting trial in federal court. The court records are public knowledge and any one is free to look for themselves.

Salesman Mike Stewart came out quite soon after I called the home office to get a bid. He was professional, courteous, and thorough. He represented his company well. The windows he bid were from Slocomb (http://slocombwindows.com/). Based on their brochure and the product that Mike used to demo the product, I was impressed with the quality of their product. The warranty on the product appears to be top-notch (of course, you really don't know until you need to get service under that warranty). The total bid price was, however, higher than my budget, so I chose to go with another provider (that met my budget). If budget had not been an issue, I might well have decided to contract with them.
Description of Work: Bid only.

Our contract clearly stated that all Windows replaced would conform the requirements for the DOE Tax Credit. After installation, we discovered that per the window stickers, the windows did not qualify for the credit. The windows are actually good quality. However, 3 of 15 windows the exterior caulking had to be redone, a 4th was measured incorrectly (removable sill was measured, but window installed without it.) and installed shoddily. Damage to surrounding 3 interior walls has not been repaired. Interior caulking is inconsistent in quality depending on which crew member did a particular window. As to the tax credit issue, we are still awaiting resolution. We offered a choice - replace with qualifying windows and repair damaged walls, or reimburse amount of tax credit plus 500 for interior damage. Owner agreed to reimbursement. Months later, and no check. In April owner agreed to instead replace windows with tax credit qualifying ones. Still waiting......

Customer contract detailed a specific window to meet the DOE/Energy star guidelines. Distribution supplier failed to order as specified to meet the criteria. All windows were reordered and replaced to meet the specified criteria and the job was paid in full to customer satisfaction as of June 30, 2011.
