I contacted David Stanley through Angie's list, and felt confident of his reputation based on Angie's List review. BIG mistake! I should have done my homework and not just gone be review. David was prompt to call me back and polite. He came out on Saturday afternoon to take a look at the hot water heater. He said it might be the thermostat, but suggested I consider replacing it since unit was already 10 years old .In this original meeting, he stated I had a short or "low boy" unit. He then called back on Monday and quoted me $600 for the job based on the fact that the unit was in the cellar, and there was a few inches of standing water at the end of the steps that would have to be pumped out. He stated that he would need some one to help. Based on our previous discussion about the type of unit I had, and based on my implicit trust that the good review on Angie's list, I told him to go ahead with job. I had to leave work to come home to pay and inspect the job. It appeared that the job was done adequately; I had hot water. I noticed the new hot water unit seemed taller than the previous one. I asked him about it, and he stated that it was the same. I paid him, but returned to work, feeling like something was not right. I came home and further inspected the unit, making note of the serial number. My home is old and the previous owner had left debris around the water supply pipes running to the hot water heater. Although I had not spelled it out, I had assumed that he would have picked up the debris and thrown it in the trash as he had to move it around to get to the pipes. Not so. I also noticed that he had left some debris on the floor around the unit. I know this is not a major issue, but it upset me, nonetheless. With serial number of new hot water unit in hand, I went to work. I discovered that he had replaced my unit with a standard $225 tall unit, which would have been fine, had he not charged me $600. Lowe's installs hot water heaters for $189. Even with a small upcharge for having to take the unit down 5 or 6 steps, I could have had the same job done more quickly, with less effort, and for somewhere between $200 to $100 cheaper. HOW FRUSTRATING! My advice, do your homework and check to make sure his price is right!

Response from DAVID C STANLEY LLC
Hello Member, I just now found your review. I wish you had called me about your concerns. I came from Bristol on Saturday to find out why your breaker was tripping on your water heater. Found the thermostat to be bad, and recommended replacing the unit based on its age. The price was agreed upon and I returned on Monday with a helper to replace the water heater with the same type and height unit that you had. We pumped the 40 gallons from your old tank, out of the cellar into the backyard so we would not be standing in water to our ankles, and replaced with a new heater. The new unit, materials, and supplies to reconnect were at least half of the quoted price, not including my helpers labor. I cannot match the pricing of the " big box " stores on installation, since they take a loss to sell the product, if that makes any sense. I am not the most inexpensive contractor around and do not wish to be. Best regards to you and God Bless.

It was an extended-period remodel. David began work properly and kept me informed of his schedule throughout the working process. He cleaned up all debris at the end of each work day. Polite & easy to work with. Did a fantastic job on the drywall for a 40+ year old house - no tape, no seams. Very professional job - end result looks great.

He is top notch. He's done a bunch of different things. He did a replacement ceiling on a screen porch. Recently he's done all sorts of different odds and ends. He's dependable and honest. My wife's felt so comfortable that she can just leave things open and he can work with what he needs. He's dependable to come whenever he's left things to get ready for the job and talk things over with her. She's just real pleased with everything he's ever done for us. I do know him and I speak to him when I see him because my wife's had him several times but as far the overall operation of the jobs she's taken care of it herself. She's never commented that she felt he's charged her too much or anything like that. You don't mind paying when you know you're getting exactly what you wanted.

David came to our house on Saturday, emailed a quote the next day, and brought equipment and started the work on the Friday of that same week. When he came to do our estimate, he told us that he had a few other projects that he had already committed to, so that he would not be on our project full-time every day. He worked in our home all day most days for about 2 weeks, then after a few days away, finished the job in about 3 days. The quality of the work is very good, and he cleans up after himself each day.
Description of Work: Remodeled our Master Bedroom - gutted three closets and our dressing room; removed all light fixtures and electrical wiring; blocked one of the three closet doors (drywalled so well you can't tell it was ever there); rewired all electric and installed new outlets and recessed lighting; installed crown molding and chair rails; and installed wall mount and high definition cabling for plasma tv. Electrical and lighting in Family Room - replaced electrical wiring in family room and installed new lighting and 3-prong outlets. Kitchen - changed wiring and install ground fault circuit.
