We bought a new home with a chimney too dirty use safely, this company was recommended to us by my realtor who "hasn't used a chimney sweep for a long time" but we trusted that he knew the best in the business. (It apears after a little research that the company he recommended was bought by Mr. Weaks and ran into the ground since) We were anxious to set an appointment so we tried contacting Mr. Weaks before our closing date with no response Red flag #1: it took many days of phone tag and unreturned calls to finally have an appointment set and then rescheduled due to weather (which of course is understandable but frustrating) Finally finally finally Mr. Weaks came to the house. The initial quote for the chimney was $149, after checking out the chimney he said it split partway up was a double chimney and thus would cost us more then double ($325!!!) We had no idea and didn't budget for something that expensive. After shining a flashlight in the chimney and quoting $325 he said that if we didn't get the service that day it was still going to cost us $75 for his time -otherwise we would have asked him to leave right then and there. My partner talked him down to $300 and throughout the service he kept trying to talk us back up. To make matters worse there was a second man who did nothing but hang out & try to sell my partner a food truck, argued with Mr. Weaks and was not respectful of personal space. It was an uncomfortable, unprofessional service. I wish I had looked up reviews before going through with making the appointment. We feel taken advantage of and like we didn't have the option for a second opinion due to the high estimate fee. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

When I called the number for Chimney Pro, Inc., Mike Weaks answered with "Hello?" I asked about the chimney company and he said he had taken the business over. He asked what I was looking for and where I was located. After covering the request, he asked me to repeat it so he could write it down. Very unprofessional from the start. The workers were late and mis-informed. They were obviously looking for business of any kind, not necessarily the business they were sent out to do. I would not do business with this company or recommend to anyone else.
Description of Work: Workers arrived half an hour late thinking they were here for chimney cleaning. They said they normally charge $139 for a chimney cleaning, but because of where I live, it would be $149. I said I had requested a quote for having a chimney damper installed and a recommendation on the state of my current gas logs, which work fine, but are not visually appealing, not a chimney cleaning. They went up on the roof after checking the inside of the fireplace and came back with pictures of the liner. They recommended totally removing the liner and replacing with a stainless steel liner ($1800) and new 500 lb concrete crown ($650). I asked for the quote I originally requested for the damper and said that with the liner replacement, they would throw in the damper at cost. The damper alone would cost $425. They recommended new gas logs and inserts though they never looked at the gas logs or started the flame or talked to me about it again. Oh, and then there was a service charge (never mentioned before) of $69 for coming out to give me an estimate.

chimney caps

We hired them to place a cap on our chimney. The bid was competitive. Ladders were placed up to the roof on April 24th but they didn't do the work until the 29th. A few days later I got on the roof to take a look, and was appalled. The worker had removed two courses of brick on half the chimney, and replaced them with mortar. Mortar was slopped all over the cap, the chimney, and the roof. The cap looked like it was recycled from another chimney. I called that night to complain, leaving a message on voice mail. Mike Weaks called back later that night, apologized, and promised to make things right. He returned a few days later and cleaned up most of the mess. I told him that I wanted the brick replaced, the flue tile installed as originally described, and the cap placed on the flue tile. He said he would be back the following week. Two weeks later I called to find out where things stood. He apologized again, and promised to do the work on June 3rd. No one showed up at the appointed time, so I called. He apologized and said they were backed up from the holiday and promised to come out on June 8th at 9:00. At 9:30 I called, and Weaks said the workers were on the way, and he'd check on them. At 10:00 I called again, and was told that the they needed to stop to put oil in the truck. At that point, I told him we were done, I didn't want him working on my house. I've arranged with another company to give me a bid on removing everything Weaks did and starting from scratch.
