We have been using Giles Heating & Air Conditioning since 2005 after having purchased our home in TN. Being a retired Director of Facilities for a Fortune 500 company I knew the best way to find a reputable local contractor was to call local supply companies to that respective trade and ask for recommendations for the project at hand. Giles name kept coming up. From the initial call to review the existing system and install some additional equipment, to a few emergency calls for heat out and the most recent replacement of the system with state of the art heat pump technology, this company and its owner performed in a timely and efficient manner. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Initial service call was for no cooling. Tech, Tom arrived when promised: trouble shot the system and reported findings. Having been in Physical Plant Engineering most of my career, I knew the answers before he gave them. His analysis confirmed my own. He temporarily effected repairs to get the system operational at marginal levels until a replacement could be installed. The NEXT DAY the installation crew and equipment arrived at the promised time and five hours later the system was operational as promised.

Service Rep came to my house on 5/13 at approximately 10AM, I opened the door and I said, "I was told someone would call before coming to my house." Rep introduced himself (first name only) and said I'm here to look at your air handler. I said, "we just purchased this unit 4 months ago and paid $7k it's not reassuring that it is already malfunctioning." He said "That's why I'm here less than 24-hours of getting your call. Systems fail and people aren't perfect." We went to the basement, I explained what it was doing and he immediately said, "Your condensation pump is going out." I said, "You guys just installed the entire system 4 months ago." At that point he stated he was the owner of the company. He said, "We didn't install this pump, we do not use this brand. It was installed when the house was built." I asked how much a new pump would cost - he said he would have to check. I asked if it could be a clog in the line, he said no. I said, "I was reviewing the Warranty information when you arrived - the purchase date was incorrect (the company insisted on filing the warranty paperwork at the time of purchase instead of letting us do it ourselves) it should have been 1/3 instead the warranty said 4/3 this was 90 days past the date we purchased the equipment - paperwork said if the product was not registered within 60 days, it would be a Base Limited Warranty instead of a Registered Limited Warranty." I said, "Since you are the owner of the company, can you explain the difference between the two before you leave." He did not saying anything about my request. Instead he said he would fill a bucket up with water and test the pump. We found a bucket, I opened the garage door, he walked out and I said, "By the way, since you are the owner of the company, you might want to know that it took us 4 phone calls to your office to get the Warranty information and just received it yesterday (5/12)." I jokingly said, "Oh your wife is probably your secretary." He got really angry and said, "She has been really backed up." He then throws the bucket towards where I was standing. Then I said, "That's really great customer service." Then he just flipped out and started yelling at me. I told him I was reporting him to TRANE and our local BBB. Told him I wish I had recording the entire confrontation and that my neighbor is outside and is witnessing the entire incident. I was so scared of his behavior that I ran inside and closed the garage door. He then got in his truck and left. I was remarkably calm throughout the entire encounter - I never cussed or yelled at him - just matter of fact level of attitude - from the moment I opened my door – he was confrontational! Just to mention, I was a female home alone at the time of this confrontation - I felt so threatened by this man's behavior that I almost called the police!
Description of Work: We purchased a new TRANE 5-ton HP split system on 1/3/14 for $6,775 from Giles Heating & Air. The air conditioning side of the unit has only been used for 1.5 months and we were having a problem. We contacted the company and made an appointment. The actual owner of the company made the service call, however, he did not identify himself as the owner until much later in the visit. We selected Giles because we used them through the American Home Shield on our last house and always had great service from Mr. Giles service techs. The service techs that installed the new system did such a great job and it was freezing outside that we gave each of them a $100 tip. Too bad this owner didn't send his regular service techs instead of attacking me both verbally and physically by throwing a bucket in my direction. There is absolutely no excuse for the owner's behavior and was not provoked in any way by me. If this man or any of his employees set foot on my properly, I will call the police.

Repairman came as scheduled. Very pleasant and wasted no time. Most impressive, however, was that he voluntarily removed his shoes because it had rained the night before.
Description of Work: Replaced a faulty thermostat. That plus the service call would have totaled $165.00 which was waived, however, when I agreed to a three year maintenance contract.

He was a very knowledgeable fellow and gave me some good thoughts. It was a positive experience even though they didn't do any work. He does work for a warranty company. He came by at his convenience. He didn't have on a tie. I'm going to call him next week.
Description of Work: I got an inspection, advice and report from Giles Heating & Air for air conditioning.

The job went very smoothly from start to finish.
Description of Work: I have a large 5000 sq ft ranch-style house that requires 2 heating and A/C units. One of the existing A/C units was next to my pool and was quite an eye sore. I wanted the unit moved to the same side of the house as the 2nd A/C unit and away from the pool area. This would have involved running a large amount of copper tubing the entire length of the house and would have been very expensive. Also, I thought I was going to need two 5 ton units for the 5000 sq ft area.. Giles Heating and A/C came up with a solution to put the 2nd A/C unit on the other end of the house and convinced me I only needed two 4 ton units. They were correct. They were able to remove the old unit from my pool area, installed two brand new Heating and A/C units, added some circuitry to me electrical panel and saved me hundreds of dollars. The technicians were honest, very knowledgeable, polite, prompt and neat. They gave me several options to choose from, from least expensive to most expensive and explained the pros and cons of each.
