These people were in and out at all kinds of hours throughout the day and evening and never when they said they would be. They made a huge mess in the basement over a 3 week period of install, didn't appear to really know what they were doing and, in fact, never finished the job. Forgot to install a vent in the master bathroom and despite repeated phone calls, never returned my call or returned to install the vent. Once paid, they disappeared - my mistake. Unprofessional and hapless - would not recommend this company.
Description of Work: This company was hired to install a high end dual fuel furnace that we had purchased.

Response from Staggs And Son LLC
Company: Staggs and Son, LLC Name: Mike Staggs Title: Owner Based on our members request, are you willing to resolve the issue to our member’s satisfaction? Based on my experience with your member, no one could resolve the issue to your member’s satisfaction. I will not work for them. They constantly changed the job, and refused to pay for extremely expensive changes. Counter Offer: I will agree to send someone (from a different company) to go install the heating vent in the bathroom if they will pay me the money they owe me, plus pay the new contractor for his additional work. My side of the story: She called distressed saying that they had put her husband in the hospital and that she had no heat. The original startup date was supposed to be around December 1, 2011, but she called saying that they had disconnected her heat. So I quit good paying jobs for good paying customers to go work for them. They constantly changed what they wanted, and will not pay for the work though it’s completed. The original bid agreed upon was $2600.00 duct work to be run overhead. On the day that I started (parts were already enroute from the supply company) they decided to change the duct work from the ceiling to the floor – a HUGE change. I had to call the driver and stop him and told him to take all the materials for this job back and return them. The company’s restocking fee is not 20%. We renegotiated the bid to $2800.00, adding the cost of restocking fee to the bid, and his electrician was to run the wire to the condensing unit. We agreed that any additional changes would be extra. Every day we worked they added work or changed construction plans. He seemed unable to grasp how expensive such changes are, such as moving the duct work “just two feet over.” (He wanted it moved into a virtually impossible crawl space instead of the open basement which is where we agreed it would be.) He would say something one day and the next day he would change his mind and throw a fit. For example, he and I together marked a hole to be cut in the block wall with magic marker. When my employees cut the hole out, exactly as marked, he became obnoxious and ill and demanded I come to the job site at once. I held my peace, but counted the professional relationship a loss after he called me a liar. Total cost to me for the job rose to $5,500. When I presented him the bill just for the original price, he refused to pay $100 of the original contract and refused to pay for the additional changes that he required. Regarding it taking over 3 weeks, I agree it was MUCH too long. This job should have been a 3 or 4 day job but as they repeatedly changed their minds, it took 3 weeks – with no additional compensation to me or my employees. As to my being in and out all kinds of hours throughout the day and evening, I was, in fact, working long hours because they changed the job so much it was killing me. It was costing me money and lots of it. Other jobs and service work was backing up. They complained non-stop. I had had all I could take and just wanted to finish the job to be done with them. As for the huge mess in the basement, before I started the job, I asked them if I could use the basement to put the duct work together and leaved the materials as they were and he said that I could. When I went to the job to start the work they had the basement full of other items so that there was no room for me to work in the basement and I had to work in what little space I had left. As for the heat vent in the master bathroom, duct work and vents to the master bathroom was not part of the original bid. I had already installed two vents that were not included in the original contract bid and when they would not pay for them I elected to do no more work for free. Also, after we finished this job, one of my employees walked through the house with him and discussed the work that had been done and received his verbal approval of the job. As for the repeated phone calls, he left a threat on my cell phone answering service. Also, he went to the home of one of my employees and harassed and threatened him in front of his wife. At this point I was done with the man, and still am. I affirm that this information is true and based on my experience, but do not agree to Angie’s List’s Use of my name whatsoever. Mike Staggs
