Project started 6 weeks later than what I was originally told. The original start date was why I decided to go with him over another contractor. I had to constantly watch that the work that contracted for was being done. They forgot to put in the sound barrier, some of the quality was poor and I had to have it redone, very poor communication with owner - was told one thing and then schedules would change with no phone calls. Damage was done to some wiring that they do not want to take responsibility for. Here is a copy of several emails that were exchanged: fromnick slattery info@builtbynick.com toLarry Thomas <larryrt51@gmail.com>dateFri, Aug 26, 2011 at 5:34 AMsubjectPaymenthide details Aug 26 Larry, I received your payment. Thank you. I want to clarify a job duty list for my part of the project. 1. We were not hired to do the floor. It was not in my contract to fix floor. 2. We did not cut the floor. The floor was already cut from previous project or from when the house was originally built. I was out of town at the time that this incedent occurred as well as when the electrical line was accidentally hit. I did receive the message and did return the call when I was out of town at the time. 3. Incidentals such as this happen all the time in my business, especially when it comes to a remodel of this nature. I also think that the bill that was charged against me was extremely over priced as I have spoken to my electrician, and to install a junction box including a trip charge would be no more than. 1 hour labor 55. Parts - 1 junction box 1.20 includes mark up, 3 wire nuts, 1.00. includes mark up and a trip charge, 30.00 total 87.20.4. I also want to remind you that the electrician forgot to move the outlet in your closet, which you made me fix. I think it is a fair trade for me to fix his mistake for our mistake. I am sorry that the project took longer than expected due to issues beyond my control. But never the less. We still completed the job and I expect to be payed in full. Thank you for your time, and I expect to hear from you soon, I am willing to meet with you face to face as well if you feel that we need to. You were contracted to "Tear out and prep for electricians and plumbers" and I thought the hole in the floor was neede for the plumbers to run their pipes. A check is in the mail for $42.40. As for item 3, I am glad you have put into writing that " Incidentals such as this happen all the time in my business, especially when it comes to a remodel of this nature." Based on your response to this, you do not believe that if damage is done to a person's home while being worked on by Slattery Construction, you are not responsible. I am sending a copy of this email to the Better Business Bureau, Angies List and any local contractor that I can think of to show every one your idea of taking responsibility. Your website boasts of customer service and satisfaction. Where were you on a Friday night that you told me very specifically that you would come in and set the vanity. You never called to tell me you were not coming and your response to my voice mails was "I am busy, I will call you later". Later was 60 hours later. Communication from you was very poor throughout the project. As for item 4, I should have never been involved in the repair.A responsible contractor would have dealt with it himself. It was your problem, not mine and therefore you have to pay my electrician's rates. As for the patch of the hole from the outlet being moved, you volunteered to do it, I never asked to have it done. Also, I do not pay for poor quality workmanship - see attached pictures. This is not the only quality issues I had during this project. There were several items that I had to call you about to be redone or were flat out not done when your people were here. Where was the supervision and follow-up? I have also discovered that the "sound proofing" you did is very ineffective.
