They were professional and very careful with our belongings. I highly recommend them.

The move went well and I was impressed with the job done by those moving me, except for one thing which didn't have to be a big deal. The company's response to the issue leaves me wondering about the owners' willingness to accept responsibility and concern about customer satisfaction. For this reason I would not recommend using them. When I initially scheduled this move, I asked Julie, the receptionist, if I needed to unload my upright freezer. She said no. The young men who moved me also said there was no need as they would move it full. They did so, placing it against the wall directly in front of the outlet. Four days after my move, I discovered it had not been plugged in. Mistakes happen, there was no malicious intent, they were busy. I can accept that. In my opinion, the problem occurred when I called the office. At 8 A.M. or so I left a message stating what happened and asked for a return call. No response. I called again around 1:00 at which time Julie said she was sorry but the situation was my "fault" because I had forgotten to plug in my freezer. She stated nothing like this had ever happened before, so clearly the issue was mine. Surprised by this, I stated I expected more from a service that cost me $800 (actually it was $880). Julie asked what would make me happy. I said I would like partial reimbursement for the contents. She said she would get back to me. In the following phone call Julie told me there was nothing they were willing to do to rectify the situation. She went on to explain they didn't plug in my T.V. or stereo, and shouldn't be expected to plug in my freezer. She also stated I needed to "stop blaming" them for the fact I "forgot to plug in my freezer." Interestingly, she did acknowledge the people moving me were "on to the next thing" and that was probably why they didn't plug it in. She didn't seem to understand I was more bothered by her response and lack of concern about customer satisfaction rather than the actual event, even though I stated so using those exact words. Instead she stated "we could argue for the next hour" and nothing would change as she was going to "stand her ground." Because the damage technically occurred after the move, I really didn't expect any reimbursement. I would have been satisfied with a genuine apology and a plan to prevent this from happening to someone else in the future. The "plan" could be as basic as informing customers they would be expected to plug in their own freezers. If at any point I had been aware this would be the expectation, I would have done so. To be clear, my poor review is a reflection my interaction with the office staff, not of the individuals who provided labor.

Response from Thomas & Sons Moving Company
This sort of situation is so unfortunate, and it's clear that the client is distressed. However, as happens with disputes, her description of events is not reflective of our experience. The most crucial element to this event revolves around one simple moment--where the crew explained that freezers should "rest" for an hour after being moved and before being plugged in. The crew notified the client of this and the client acknowledged on the following phone call that the crew gave this instruction. I did apologize for the problem, and asked what the client was requesting to rectify this problem. She wanted me to replace food in the freezer. An apology or empathy was not enough; the client wanted compensation for lost food. The quotes that are being repeated above are excerpts from two phone calls that totaled probably 30 minutes--and these moments occurred toward the end of the chat. I had talked with the company owner, the crew, all of which concluded that we could not honor her request, and so we were at an impasse. She was happy with the movers, and happy with the experience, as she notes above. She simply was unhappy that I had to say no. I hope this helps to clarify the "other side of the story." I'm sure most folks would agree that a moving company cannot be responsible for what clients do with their own equipment after it's been delivered. All we can do is to communicate. And that's what we did. Thanks for reading! Julie

They did an excellent job! They were extremely friendly, positive, hard working, and very professional. We had them for their minimum of two hours and they worked, hard, the entire time. They were efficient and careful with our belongings- things went into the storage beautifully and they maximized our space by putting everything away in a very organized fashion. Moving is not the most fun thing to do, but Thomas & Sons made our move a lot more smooth and pleasant. We will definitely use their services again!
Description of Work: Shannon and Bobby moved a full 26 foot truck's worth of our things into storage and our home (including three very large and heavy safes).
