After hearing bad reviews and having him remove the flooring in my home, I decided NOT to use him to install. It took them two months just to remove the floor. The people he has working for him are very unreliable. He also doesn't seem to know you can't charge 6% sales tax on labor.
Description of Work: Removed flooring throughout the house. Was supposed to install as well

We went with this company because they seemed very knowledgeable about their product and their work and their schedule worked with ours. This was for two bedrooms, a dining room, and hallway. We moved all items out of the rooms on Sunday so that it would be clear and ready to go. This was to be a 3-4 day job. They were delayed by a day due to a prior job. Monday start date now pushed to Tuesday. The re-finisher arrived about 30 minutes later than promised. When we returned home from errands, everything was just left there, no notes about if he was coming back later that day or the next day. Had to call him to find out. He finished sanding on Wednesday and put on the first coat. It really looked beautiful. We stayed off the floor for longer than the time he quoted us just to make sure we didn't mess up his work. Thursday when he came I asked about the holes and he talked about dowels and epoxy. I figured he had the right size to do the job. He put on another coat and I asked about the last one as the floor felt a bit rough. He said the 3rd coat should take care of things. When we got home, two of the three holes were filled with a dowel that was too small and then epoxy packed around it. The third whole was just filled with epoxy. We called the owner and he came out the following Monday (this is day 7 of 3-4 day job) and he talked about the roughness being because it was old wood, it's just the different grain showing. He said it was up to industry specifications but to show good customer relations, he would put another coat on and fix the holes so they would look nicer. Tuesday he came and washed the floor in the morning with something he said would help the last coat adhere better then came back 4 hours later with his wife to put on the last coat. He said he'd be able to come back Friday to fix the holes. After allowing time for the floor to dry, it was just as rough as before. He came Thursday afternoon to fix the holes. He made the comment that he was surprised that we had not moved our things back in yet. I mentioned that I thought the floors still felt rough and he said in 6 months I wouldn't be able to feel any of that. I left him to fix the holes. He just smeared some lighter colored epoxy on the top of what was there, and I mean smeared. We paid him just so we could be done with it. I was able to find dowels to fit the holes exactly (and I had offered them to the re-finisher to use but he wanted to use the epoxy) so I will probably chip out the mess and install the dowels myself. Almost a two week ordeal.
Description of Work: We contracted with the company to do a complete refinish of our hardwood floors, sanding them down to bare wood, applying 3 coats of finish, and filling some holes left behind by remodeling.

We had trouble right away getting them/Craig to show up when they said they would. Once they/Craig did show up they sanded our floor down with their sanders the first day. Upon seeing the sanded floors we noticed two problems, first was they had left around a dozen spots in the floor that their sanders didn't get the old Varathane Poly off. Second was that they had damaged a door jam/sill with their sander. Upon seeing this we reported it to them and they said that they would fix the door jam/sill and that the spots we were seeing were actually just the natural color of our floor?? The spots were obvious missed poly because they were still smooth like before the sanding and the rest of the floor was ruff from sanding. They then came out the next day and put the first of three layers of water based emulsion on the floor. When we got home and inspected the floor we noticed that the "fix" to the door jam/sill was actually just taking a knife and carving out the sharp edges of the groove left by their sander leaving a deep but smooth groove in the jam/sill. The spots were still very noticable in all the same spots as well. We then called called them and insisted that the door jam/sill be replaced to its prior quality and that the spots were still very much a problem. Craig continued to say that the spots were the woods natural color and that he would work on the sill again. The next day they came in and applied the second of three coats of water based emulsion. Upon seeing the floor after that we could see they had finally replaced the door sill. But the spots were still there. I then made it clear that nothing further was going to be done until we had a meeting and inspected the flooring problems together. The next morning craig came with a worker and kept insisting that the old yellow spots in our floor were natural. I then told craig that these spot cannot be there when they were done with the upcoming final coat of emulsion and he assured me they would not be because he was gonna work on they spots extensively. Upon inspecting the floor after the final coat the spots were still as obvious as ever. And that we now had two more new problems! First was that we had these spots were seams or cracks in the natural wood were now sticking up up to 1/4inch just waiting to catch a toe or sliver someone. Second we noticed that the new special order carpet runner we had made for the stairs leading down to this floor being refinished was torn. The hemming on the side of the carpet was torn about 2 inches and the carpet was torn alittle where each staple was placed to hold the carpet to the stairs. Looked as if they had just grabbed the carpet and gave it a heave to rip it from its stapled position. I then called craig and told him we must meet at the house in the morning to discuss the job. In the mean time I wrote a written letter explaining my problem with the refinishing and damage. I also called the carpet company that ordered and installed the new carpet that was now damaged and explained the problem. The carpet man said that being the carpet was design paterned that patching in a peice would not work because it wouldn't look right and that the whole runner must be replaced fully with a replacement cost of $400.00. Upon Craig showing up the next morning I showed him the obvious old discolored poly spots and the cracks sticking up and also the carpet damage. Craig insisted that he couldn't see any problem and that he had went above and beyond what his flooring association standards were? He continued to say that the cracks sticking up and the old poly spots would all go away with time? He then also told me that he could repair the carpet with some "Glue and Tape" and that he has done it before and " you could never tell there was a rip"? I told him I was not satisfied with the work and damage and would need it all repaired correctly or we had a problem. I told him I needed a answer by the end of the day and he said he wouldn't call me till next week after the weekend. I should mention that he was right up in my face when he told me that. I said that I would be having the floor inspected and would be calling his association if I didn't here back from him promptly. Next week came I didn't hear anything so I called on thursday and left a message with his secretary to have him call me ASAP. The next day(friday) I recieved a certified letter notice in my mailbox so I signed it and recieved a certified letter from him on saturday stating that I would have a lein placed on my house if I didn't pay him in full by the upcoming monday at noon! I have since had the floor inspected by another local flooring company and also a certified flooring inspector and they were both very bothered by the extensive lack of work quality and clear cut problems and damage. So I have a $1150.00 bill for a bad floor and $400.00 damage to brand new carpet and I also have a lien on my house!
Description of Work: Hired them/Craig to come and refinish our existing #2 Oak hardwood flooring.
