Jobbers Moving & Storage Co - Allied Van lines

In one word, terrible. We are retired and can no longer move our own furniture and possessions using Uhaul and friends and family so we decided to have our move handled professionally. Since Aberdeen is small and remote, we had no options other than Jobbers. The determination of the cost and the scheduling went quite well. The agent who we worked with did not get all of the needed paperwork to us, but the office staff worked with us to get it all completed. The staff also sold us packing boxes and were quite good. After that, it went down hill. On the loading day, the driver and two assistants showed up on time. Since we lived 35 steps up from the street and did not have an elevator, they chose to use two wheel carts to move the furniture to the van. They did not use any padding to protect the furniture and did not remove drawers from chests or dressers. We had emptied the drawers fortunately because they bounce all over the place as they moved down the stair. I do not know how they packed things into the van. I was too disturbed to watch fearing I would blow up at them! On the day that the van showed up, two assistants and the driver unloaded the van and did an acceptable job. As I feared, nearly every piece of furniture with a top surface was damaged, ranging from minor scraps to deep dents. Since I built most of the furniture, I can repair nearly all of it. Feedback to the Aberdeen agent was given, but he never responded. When we moved from Rapid City to Aberdeen, the moving company for this move wrapped each piece of furniture to protect it. If we had had that option in Aberdeen!
