He did not explain to me what I would get for my bay window. "Who would replace a bay window with 3 double hung windows with a bay frame. I immediately told them I did not like it. I call him, and he told me he would come by do discuss the issue. This occurred on 8/8. I emailed him, I have pictures, and tried to comprise with him. He would take no concessions. I have had other providers, have to fix this issue. I had to pay him $750 to destroy my bay windows. Now I have to pay approx 2,800-3,600 to fix the issue. Champion can work with my frame, and it will be 2,500 to fix this issue. I used him because a friend highly recommended him, and loves her window. He is a fireman, and probability good guy. This is his side job. I offered to pay him half of the $750 but he would not accept this. I wanted more energy effected windows. He delivered on the remainder of the home, however my bay window is no longer a bay window. It is 3 windows and a bay frame.
Description of Work: He was suppose windows replaced for efficient. He replaced my bay window with 3 double hung windows that has decreased my visibility by 20%.

Response from Harding Custom Homes, LLC
I have reviewed the Member’s complaint and have several problems with the authenticity of it. The first thing that I see is several pictures of the bay window during window installation, but I do not see the finished product. WHERE IS THAT PICTURE? The second important item missing is the estimate for the work to be performed. The estimate states, “Replace current windows with Ellison double hung windows. Windows will be white in color, DOUBLE HUNG, half screen, with Low E glass and Argon gas between the glass”. No where on the estimate is the discription for the windows any different. ON down the estimate is a line item for “Price to replace windows on bay $750.00 or $900.00 to replace windows and install metal on exterior of window”. The reason this was a seperate line item was that the Member could not decided while I was at her residence if she wanted to replace these windows or not. I advised her that I would show them as a seperate line item and she could let me know. She did so at a later date and time. During the process of measuring this window I recommended installing picture windows on this bay. She told me that she wanted them to open and close so I told her that if that is what she wanted I would install that, but that was not standard. I explained to her that we would be removing casement windows on the bay and that we would have to install some trim to cover where the handles where located on the casement inside the house. She said that would be fine. The material that my crew had to get to install on her bay windows was cove molding to go on the inside. We removed the windows from the exterior and covered the exterior trim with PVC metal at NO CHARGE TO the Member. She called me during the install process and advised that she did not like the windows in the bay. I informed her that I would be out later to inspect and we would discuss it, but that was what we had agreed to and that was what was on her estimate. My crew had to leave for the day because of rain and did not return Thursday, but did return Friday because they had to work at the Fire Station on Thursday. When I met with the Member she was very upset about the window. I explained to her that this was what we had discussed and that I was sorry she did not like it once it was installed, but I would replace one or all of the windows in the bay with picture windows. She said she would let me know. Friday my crew completed all window install, cleaned the windows, caulked the windows, and cleaned up the work site. The first of the following week I spoke to the Member by phone and told her the guy would be out to install the seamless gutters on Tuesday. He installed the gutters on Tuesday and I called her and told her I would be out Thursday to look over the job with her. On Wednesday night she called me and said she had to go out of town because she was so upset about the bay window and that she would meet me the following week on Thursday. I informed her that I could not meet her on Thursday, but meet her on Friday morning between 8:30 and 9:00am. She said that would be fine. On Thursday night at about 6:00 pm I received an e-mail from her stating, “I will not be available until after 11 am tomorrow”. At this point I felt like she was trying to avoid me and not pay me for the work completed, so I e-mailed her back and advised I would be out at the time we had agreed on to please have a check or cash available to pay me. She responded back that, “I have cash, I have to go to a funeral”. I felt bad, but she did not advise of the situation. Once we did meet on Friday at 11:00 am she told me that “she did not want to see me, talk to me, and would be talking bad about my company to everyone she could and reporting me to the BB”. I told her that was fine, that my company had performed a good job for her and that I was willing to replace the windows she did not like, but at her cost. I had explained in great detail during the bid process the work that would be performed on her house and I thought she understood. It is obvious now that she did not. I told her that I was sorry that she did not like the window, but my company had performed the work that I had estimated to her. She was upset and questioned why I would not take a check form her. I told her that I would take a check from her, but that I would not give her the discounted price. I explained to her that I offer a discount for cash because I do not have to worry about someone giving me a bad check. I have run a successful business for over 10 years. During this time I have NEVER had a formal complaint made against my company. If any customer has had a legitimate complaint we have made it good. In this particular case we did not make a mistake, the customer either did not understand or misunderstood what was explained to her and wants us to cover the cost of the windows. The Member sent me an e-mail requesting options for her about the window. I gave her three options. One was to leave the windows the way they were. Two was to replace the windows with pictures, she would cover the cost of the window and we would install at no charge. Three was to install a new bay unit. We did not ask for or receive a deposit on this job, we painted the interior of the bay window to match as close as possible with the age of the house and smoke stain at no charge, and we installed a new downspout to the sunroom at NO CHARGE to the homeowner. I did not have the house checked for Lead Base Paint prior to removing windows because I did not feel the house was old enough to qualify and she had a painting crew out two weeks prior scraping and painting the house so I felt like this was not an issue since they were already disturbing the paint. It is obvious that the Member and I will never come to an agreement on this issue. I am truly sorry that she feels like we did her a bad job and that she feels like she was mistreated. 08/30/2012 SM EMAIL Forward Business response to Consumer 09/06/2012 SM BBB BBB REVIEWS CONSUMER REBUTTAL TO BUSINESS RESPONSE
