Less Expensive: Traditional concrete companies charge based on their costs to mobilize and pay hourly labor to perform demolition, debris removal, re-form, re-pour, remove forms, and cleanup. In contrast, our procedures have very little labor costs.

Thank you Will for your follow-up. I am extremely pleased with the results of your work and the way in which you carried it out. I enjoyed making your acquaintance and meeting your team. I appreciate the thorough explanation of the situation and the method you used to correct the problems with my pool deck. I found you and your team to be very professional throughout the completion of the job and how you treated my property as though it were your own. You told me what you were going to do, how you were going to do it, and you did it as scheduled, on time and at a fair price. I will happily recommend you and your company to others that may have similar needs. Gratefully yours, Mike

Mr McCuen and his crew did the repairs in Feb of 2018. It has been a year now and despite a very wet 2018 and 2019 so far, we are very happy to report that our house is "cured". We have not had any water intrusion despite heavy rains (a record amount of rain approx 20" over normal for 2018) and water sitting in our front yard occasionally. We can still say a year later that Slab Science does excellent work and we can still highly recommend them. We are so happy we had them work on our home problems.
Description of Work: This is a followup to our review of 4/23/2018 wherein Mr McCuen and his crew used his special concrete to fix the problem of water intrusion into our house. And fixed our gutter drainage problems.

Mr. McCuen came out and listened to our problem and thoughts on the matter and looked over the house, inside and out. He proposed a solution that sounded right to me and we gave him the go-ahead. Within the week (Feb. 15th) Mr. McCuen and his skilled team came out. Dug up the foundation/slab on two sides of the house where water gathered and applied his liquid concrete solution to the slab and the brick walls on top of it. They then put the soil back on top of it while not disturbing the azaleas planted there. They then cleaned the gutters and cleaned the 12 downspouts; all of which were totally plugged with debris the entire length. They then installed new ends on the downspouts running into corrugated piping to take water away from the house. They also covered the piping with mulch, leaving the ends open to drain. Since then we have had several heavy rains, including 3.8” on 4/15/08, with NO more water intrusion. We cannot speak highly enough of Mr. McCuen and his team!
Description of Work: Our’s is a ranch built around 1971. It had a carport at one end of the house that was later enclosed into a “mother-in-law” suite in the early ‘80’s. The rest of the house is crawl space while the “suite” is on the carport slab. We bought the house 3 years ago and a while later discovered when we had heavy rains (1 ½ “or more) that we had water intrusion in a corner of the room. We had two different contractors out to fix the problem but alas they did not succeed though they cleaned gutters (not the down spouts) and encapsulated the crawl space. I mentioned several times to these contractors that they needed to dig down to the bottom of the slab and start water proofing there and I would have done that had I not had several surgeries. The contractors thought otherwise. Still the intrusion continued so I got on Angie’s List and searched around. I found Slab Science who had great reviews. I called Mr. McCuen and he arranged to come out.

Will was very knowledgable about the process and possibilities for our space. He is the only one we got an estimate from who thought he could get our garage level (and stable) enough to build on, and his team did so successfully and with the best customer service you could hope for. We were happy to pay the money for the peace of mind, quality work, and professionalism they provided.

I was given an estimated cost (low to high) for the job ahead of their arrival after exchanging photos and information about my problem with Will via email. We agreed on a plan of attack to address the problem and scheduled the work. Will and his team showed up on time and did a thorough job, explaining each step and all of the work they planned to do. I was fascinated by the process and the equipment they were using. Will was very accommodating and explained everything as the job progressed. Several holes were drilled in my concrete walkway, into which a liquid solution was injected while tapping on the concrete to assist in distributing the product throughout the soil beneath the concrete. The process was so effective that the solution started to come out of the adjacent hole some 15"-18" away from the hole being injected, The solution solidifies and becomes an incredible solid mass supporting the concrete above. Will and his team then addressed several minor issues that I hadn't planned on. They fill a gap where the walkway meets the front stoop on my house, and the ground down the edge of my concrete driveway where the walkway meets the driveway, eliminating a bot of a trip hazard. When the job was done, he handed me the invoice and everything came in well under the high end of the estimate we agreed to via email. I would highly recommend Will and his team at Slab Science for any work you need done to level out concrete pours and repair old concrete slabs.

It turned out to be a much more difficult job than we or Will had anticipated. The sunken steps were unknowingly attached with 3 pieces of rebar. Will and his guys refused to quit though, and didn't leave until the job was completed. The steps look excellent - they did an incredible job. Communication was also excellent. His communication was mostly via e-mail before the job, with very precise information/pictures about the plan of action and the cost. He also provided a guarantee for his work, which I really appreciated. They really made everything so easy. I look forward to working with him on future projects.
Description of Work: We had steps and concrete slabs in front of the house that sunk significantly over the years. We needed them raised or removed/replaced. Most contractors we contacted wanted to remove the steps and and put in new ones, however Will's approach was to raise the steps and fill it in underneath, which was a significantly cheaper option.

That slab, today, is still off level by at least a full bubble. Called them back to perform more leveling. End result was the slab was semi-leveled to about 80% - not money well spent. I would guess that their equipment and expertise were not up to the task required for this particular job.

Response from Slab Science LLC
This was an old detached garage built on a slab was obviously not level to begin with. During the lift it became obvious that bringing it to perfect level would have damaged the structure sitting on the slab (the sill plates on two sides of the garage began to bow). Client had us cut the sill to remove pressure which we did but also felt it wise to stop the lift for fear that more serious structural damage may occur - Will McCuen/Owner Slab Science LLC.

Description of Work: The concrete deck slabs around my swimming pool were cracked and settling badly due to soil settlement. Some of the slabs became a trip hazard and the settled slabs and cracks detracted from the enjoyment of our pool. Will McCuen of "Slab Science" came to our home and provided a job brief and written estimate and answered all my questions. His proposal was certainly much lower in cost than it would have been to jackhammer out the old slabs and pour new concrete. So, I hired "Slab Science" to come and perform the repair. Will and his team showed up right on time to begin the work. The settled pool deck slabs were meticulously evaluated for proper lift points to be drilled. The locations of small injection holes were determined and drilled into the concrete. Then the slabs were carefully lifted and continuously monitored for correct elevation. A quick cure, high strength, expanding foam was then carefully injected beneath the slabs to provide lasting support. When completed, my pool deck was back to the original elevations that existed when it was built years ago. It was quite amazing to watch. Lastly, the old cracks were filled with a permanent, but flexible joint filler to complete the function and aesthetics of the concrete. Lift and injection holes were filled as well. “Slab Science” has perfected quite an ingenious process to repair settled concrete and is much more cost and schedule effective as compared with the major cost and time required for concrete removal and replacement. The site was left more clean than when they came. Finally, I received a post job wrap up email with final job notes, including before and after pictures. Very professional for sure! They have certainly exceeded my expectations! Many thanks to Will McCuen and his team for their professionalism and dedication to repair my pool deck! It looks great now without the settled slabs. We will enjoy our pool so much more. I recommend "Slab Science" to anyone that needs pool deck or concrete slab leveling/repairs. They do a great job and will save you money! It should increase the value of your home or business. Give them a call. Tom Williams, Taylors, SC

It went extremely well. I'm thrilled with their work. They explained everything they did. They cleaned up the area; excellent! Nice folks.
Description of Work: To have removed the concrete & poured it again. Would have been much more experience & mercy. Will & Chris arrived a little and went to work. They drilled many small holes to infect the foam and to make measurements of the amount of lift and some holes where they inserted balls which were attached to jacks to help the lefting. It was a two day job. Also they ground all the cracks cleaned them and filled them.

Company President Will McCuen and his team responded to our calls promptly and were always on time. They are EXPERTS in what they do - combining the art and science of slab adjustments. They explained fully what they were going to do and did it on time and at the estimated cost. We received another estimate for this job and it was $2000 LESS than what Will quoted. But the other company did not inspire confidence and they said we would need to tear up (and later, replace) the hardwood floor in our bedroom and tile floor in our bathroom where the slab was sinking. Instead, Will was able to drill small holes and do patches of the areas damaged. So the resulting cost may actually have been less expensive than the competitor.
Description of Work: We experienced separation between baseboards and walls, doors sticking and the like. Slab Science raised and stabilized our concrete slab and also leveled a portion of a walkway up to our front door.

Slab Science uses a polyurethane foam, not concrete, to lift sunken slab. They drill small holes through the slab and pump in the liquid polyurethane. It hardens very quickly. Very clean job. They were able to lift the slab to grade within the cost estimate of only filing the void. Very nice, responsive and professional crew. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: Settling and erosion had created void in one corner of house between slab and grade. The slab had also dropped about an inch in that area. At minimum, we wanted to fill the void, and if not too expensive, to raise the slab to level as well.

I looked on Home Advisor to find a company to repair my sidewalk and found great reviews for Slab Science. (I'm not an Angie's List subscriber.) One of its representatives contacted Slab Science. Will McCuen called me within a day and asked me to send pictures of the sinking sidewalk and front stoop. I sent them and he told me that he could repair it and gave me a price quote that evening. The price was a quarter of the price of having the sidewalk replaced and the entire job only took one day. Will and I exchanged several emails regarding the details of the project and he told me he could also add a pipe for drainage at an extra cost, and I agreed. We then arranged a repair date for approximately a week later. As the date approached, it turns out rain was expected the entire day, so Will emailed to find out if the following day was acceptable for the work. I agreed and he came that day and was still there with the woman who works with him when I returned from work. He'd had another worker off sick that day, so the project took a few more hours than had been projected. The sidewalk was in great condition before Will came. The only issue was that it had dropped several inches, causing a trip hazard and making the step from the stoop to the porch too high. I had contacted other contractors before I found Slab Science, but they either did not return my calls, did not show up or said the entire walk would have to be torn up and replaced, at a cost of $3,400. I was impressed by the way Will kept me informed and responded quickly to any questions I had prior to having the project completed. He and his co-worker were also very pleasant when I arrived home and even played with my dog! The sidewalk and stoop look great and are now safe, for a cost the fraction of what it would have been to replace them. I would recommend this company to anyone with a similar issue. I've seldom worked with any contractor who is as responsive, prompt and just plain nice as Will and his employee at Slab Science.

In this age of unreturned phone calls, no-shows, broken promises and shoddy workmanship, it was a genuine pleasure doing business with Will McCuen and Slab Science. From the first telephone inquiry through the follow up email we received after the completion of the job, everything they did was the epitome of professionalism. THIS is how to run a business, people! When we made the initial phone call, Will told me he could usually provide a good estimate from emailed pictures of the problem areas and some rough dimensions. We sent the pics and info, got a quick acknowledgement email, and an estimate soon thereafter. We agreed on a date and time, and Will emailed us the day before to confirm. He showed up at the appointed time with his crew, and they worked steadily in the sweltering heat and finished the job a little ahead of the estimated time. His guys were courteous and friendly and they clearly knew what they were doing. Will was on site and worked with them for most of the job. They did not leave any mess at all and treated our property with care. They fixed a crack in our front walkway that was not included in the quote and there was no additional charge for that. If you need any concrete repairs and leveling work done, we recommend you save yourself time and frustration and just go ahead and call Slab Science. If you are like us, and often wonder how some contractors remain in business with such poor customer service practices, you will be VERY pleasantly surprise by this company. We could not be more pleased!

When we first started getting quotes to have our front porch stairs fixed Mr. McCuen was very through with his quote letting us know exactly what procedure he would use length of time the project would take and what material would be used. Slab Science arrived at our home and Mr. McCuen introduced himself and went right to work, the job was completed pretty close to the amount of time he stated in the quote. They were very through in making sure the area was clean when the job was complete. We were very pleased with the service Slab Science provided and will be glad to use them in the future should the need arise we would also recommend them.
Description of Work: Slab Science cam our and permanently lifted our front porch stairs and surrounding side walk that had settled over time.
