it was hard to get a sales person. it would be hours before i got calls about quotes. i eventually got quotes for two different types of windows. i would recommend they hire a designated door and window salesman.

Start date of installation of my Bay window and two side windows and covering sill and casement with metal cladding was initially done on 11/28/2012 by a subcontractor who worked for the Summerville (Main St) Lowes Store. Work was completed on same day, however Lowe's Store Representative and Project Manager did not come out to inspect the work as stated during the sales process and on the Contract. I came home from work around five pm and inspected the work and found numerous discrepancies i.e. metal cladding joints had large gaps, and or misaligned in four areas (Sills and tops of windows) along with no caulking to cover open areas which would allow water access and insect intrusion and scratched glass. I immediately called and emailed LOWES Project Manager/ Sales Representative and did not receive a response. After two days I contacted the Management at Lowes and their Asst Manager responded (Very Helpful and Concerned) and the next day the Project Manager/ Sales Representative came out to look at the problem. I asked why he didn't come out to inspect before the subcontractor left or respond when I called him and emailed him and he was noncommittal but promised to fix all the problems. My major concerns initially included the sill present exposure to the elements and insects because of previous water intrusion and unfilled gaps in the cladding and he stated that all rotten wood was removed and the spaces will be caulked. I asked him to contact me at my work to set up a day for repairs and instead he had the subcontractor contact my home and my wife who first language is not English. She was contacted by an unhappy subcontractor who came out and fixed only a few items. (My wife had to bare the brunt of the responding Asst Managers and Subcontractors phone calls and visits and felt intimidated since she doesn't know anything about window installation!) Once again I rush home from work because the work was being done on a non-scheduled day and time and try to meet with the Lowes Project Manager/Sales person who again didn't show and or the subcontractor but he was gone before I got home. The Subcontractor only fixed a few items (Most likely because no one from Lowes was there to provide him with direction.) I once again I called and emailed pictures to the Lowes Project Manager/Sales Person and no response so I contacted the Management Team at the Summerville SC, North Main St Storeagain and a different Asst Store Manager responded and he stated that he would have the Project Manager/Sales Representative call me and He did and he stated that he be coming out to look at the problems. He came out several days later and I pointed out the misaligned metal cladding problems, lack of caulking and gaps and the damaged interior window and sill. He told me he would get that fixed and he was bringing a Pella Window Representative out to look at the Bay window problems. The Pella representative came out and stated that the installation was done incorrectly, i.e. joints not caulked, seams not meeting! Metal Cladding not form fitted on the wood but over large spaces which allowed to be dented and spring back and forth when touched, also the interior integrity was compromised and it fogged on cold mornings. Also the window was defective. Both the Pella Window Representative and the Lowes Project Manager/Sales Representative stated that they would get back to us. Well after two weeks I called the Lowes Summerville Store on North Main Street and contacted the Management and got a hold of a different Asst Manager (Third one) and she stated that she would contact everyone and try to resolve the problem. I received a phone call from the subcontractor the next day and he stated that he is in the area and he could come out and drill holes into the cladding so that the water can drain out from the weep holes in the window. Well I stated that was not what I understood what was suppose to happen and that he should contact the Lowes Management. And I called the Store Management again since the Project Manager did not respond and they stated that Lowes has ordered a new window and it will be 4 to 6 weeks before it will come in. About six weeks later I received notice that the window was in and schedule through another Lowes Asst Manager for an installation date. A different Project Manager came out (or so he stated) with no identification and the same subcontractor to put in the new window. They took out the old window and the subcontractor stated "(I wondered what they were going to do with the damaged window when I installed it and he pointed out the damage.)" I didn't want to address his statement because my contract is with Lowe's and not their subcontractor and the problem was already acknowledged by the Pella Representative. However the New window they provided to install on 1/29/2013 was also damaged and had a large hole, and the size was about 1/2inch diameter at the bottom of the plastic frame. I was informed by the Lowes onsite representative that the hole does not effect the integrity of the sealed window. So I allowed them to caulk the hole so that water would not run out of it instead of the weep holes and into the interior of my wall. (I will wait and see if the Bay Window will fog, because I could not wait for another six weeks for a replacement window. I inspected the sill and casement and found that the side panels of the window frame were rotted, moldy and black and crumbled at the touch and that the installer had not repaired them as per the Lowes contract on the first installation. I brought out my contract and showed the Lowes Representative the corresponding items that I paid for which included rotted wood removal. The subcontractor cut out the rotted wood and replaced it with new wood. Also they installed wood to raised the sill up since the metal cladding was about 1-1/4 height above the sill, and if you pushed on it the cladding would bend/dent because the metal sheathing did not form fit it to the sill and there was a large air gap. ( The problem of the wood that they replaced was that it wasn't treated and it was bits and pieces of scrap wood part of it was cut up 1/2 inch plywood strips stacked together etc.) The rest of the process of installation, metal cladding and caulking went well and the bay window was finally properly sealed and the weep holes were exposed instead of being cased in so that they would not drain to the interior of the wall. Summary: Sales Person/Project Manager needs retraining is several areas A. Customer Service and commit to the project/job. B. Hands On Supervision Subcontractors C. Contract interpretation (i.e. If it is written and signed then it is legal and required.) D. If the Subcontractor new what the expectations of the customer is (Normal Quality Work) and it was pointed out and inspected by the Lowes Project Manager then we would not have arrived at this point. E. Second Project Manager who came out to finnish up, did not have any Lowes company identification. Nor did he seem to have an overall interest in making sure the subcontractor comply with the contract. It was left up to me as the home owner to point out the obvious problems i.e. Rotted Wood, broken window, insufficient shoring up of the metal cladding and proper caulking of the window and cladding to the Lowes Representative and in turn he informed the subcontractor " Make the client happy". Lowes Management: A. Not sure what the policy Lowes has about Management, but I had called the North Main St, Summerville SC store five times and received four different Male Assistant Manager's and one Female Assistant Manager and they would only give their first name. Each one took the initial call seriously and wrote it into the record so the next one would be able to read it and take some action. But the problem was that none of them called me back me as promised to let me know what was happening even after I provided them emails with pictures to prove that there was damage or unfinnish work. None of the Store Asistant Managers follow through to see if the customer was satisfied and or the work was completed or questions answered. Only once during this three month odyssey did the Project Managers Supervisor call to see how things were going (Right after the first install) and when I informed her of the problem and I wasn't satisfied she apologized but never called back! (Basically you are on your own or if you haven't the experience, patience or the tenacity in dealing with Construction Personnel then get a Lawyer because otherwise you will waste your time, energy and money on their excuses or their finger pointing at each other. On 1/30/2013 I called the North Main St, Summerville SC store and got my fifth Asst Store Manager (I say this because each one states that this is the first time I have talked to them.) and I told him of the second installation and what we found when the removed the window and the corrections that was made to full fill my contract. I also told him that the second window was damaged but I had them install it since I did not want to wait six weeks for another one to come and have a piece of Plywood over my window. I told him that if it leaks that they would hear from me. Overall: I am disappointed in the quality of work! The Customer Service! And the waste of my time, energy and money on this simple project. Also this does not take in the five Assistant Managers time! The Subcontractors Three visits. The first project managers three visits! The second project managers three visits! The two specially made but improperly handled Pella Windows! The cost to Lowes in lost manhours most likely is the cost of the project. My cost in lost manhours is just lost and obviously won't be reimbursed no matter what each manager and project manager stated because they don't honor commitments unless you sit on them and right now my posterior is to sore to sit any more!

I know the store pretty well, so going in I didn't have any problems finding what I needed. Their prices are reasonable; they match prices, and give a 10 percent military discount. I will use them again in the future.

The job was good. I went with them because of their price and reputation. I was impressed with how quickly they got it done; they were efficient, they got it done, and then they were out of there.

After speaking to the Project Specialist (exterior) - Shannon Locklair - who was very polite and personable, he came to our home to measure the windows @ a time that was convenient to us. He explained all options/procedures in detail. After we picked out the windows and paid for them, they arrived within two weeks. We received a call a day after they arrived by the window installion contractor - Steven Griffith. Mr. Griffith was very professional and did a wonderful job replacing the windows, even making sure he cleaned up inside the house around the window area and outside after he had completed the job. A pleasure to do business with both people.
Description of Work: I had two double-paned windows in need of replacement.
