He never finished the job. Took the money and ran. Had 100 excuses. After 3 weeks I finally decided to sue him.
Description of Work: I hired this contractor to re-screen a porch and paint some shutters.

Terrible from the start. The first day the crew was an hour and a half late, the second day they were 2 hours late, the third day they didn't show up (but were considerate enough to call AFTER their scheduled appointment time), and the fourth day they were an hour and a half late. Jimmie's excuses ranged from being tired or having back problems, to traffic or having to take someone to a doctor's appointment. Jimmie does not paint at all himself. He claims to be a licensed carpenter and craftsman, but I saw no evidence of that. He leaves to "go get a ladder" then never comes back. Only 1 of the 3 crew members (Charlie) seems to know what he's doing, and should probably be running the business. Paint was splattered all over the bathroom fixtures, ceilings, and floor, cutting in corners and edges was thin needing a second coat, which I had to hound them to do. The crew tracked in dirt all over the house and took excessively long smoke breaks getting ash all over the porch and patio. I came downstairs and found a half-naked man painting my bathroom because he was hot and did not open a window. They were however, very friendly and respectful to me in conversation, except for Jimmie. The original quote said payment upon completion. The first day Jimmie and the crew showed up, Jimmie changed it to half up front and half upon completion. I agreed understanding he needed to pay his workers. The second day when things still were not finished he begged me for more money for the unfinished work. They were supposed to paint two ceilings and the exterior flashing, but because of the headache they brought with the 4 simple rooms, and Jimmie's constant sorry excuses I chose to call someone else. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY.
Description of Work: Jimmie gives free estimates. His crew painted 3 bathrooms and a laundry room. We are preparing our home to go on the market and our realtor chose a neutral white to cover up bold colors in these rooms for better showing purposes.

DO NOT HIRE THIS MAN UNLESS YOU WANT NOTHING BUT HEADACHES! It was a nightmare from the start. He came out on a Sunday and removed 3 out of 4 of our countertops and took out our kitchen sink. He said he would be back the next day with the new countertops (we provided him with the plywood, laminate, and contact cement). Six days later, he still had not been back to install them. I could write a book with all the excuses he had. On Friday, he finally came with 2 other guys and removed the 4th countertop and dropped off the countertops he made. When I got home from work and saw the new countertops, I was extremely upset. They were very poor quality - ragged edges, crooked lines, seams in FRONT on all countertops, a big crack on one. I did not want him to come back and install these in my kitchen. On Saturday, we fired him and are now left with no countertops in our kitchen and the sink was not put back. We spent $900.00 on this project and have nothing to show for up except a kitchen that's all torn up. Now, we have to hire a carpenter to replace the wood he broke around the sink and all the trim he broke before we can even get someone else to install countertops for us. He will sweet talk you but do you use this man unless you want to be out a lot of money and have an unfinished project on your hands.
Description of Work: was hired to install new laminate countertop in kitchen

We were told it would be a two week job and after four months (85% complete) they never came back to finish up. We made numerous phone calls which were always answered and handled professionally but they'd never follow through.

WARNING!!!! DO NOT USE JIMMY COX!!!! Jimmy Cox low bid my job to get it and then he upped his price when he got to my house. I reluctantly agreed to the higher bid. He said that he had lumber at his house and then called and said that he didn?t and asked me to meet him at Lowe?s to buy $150 worth of lumber, which again upped the price. After not even finishing half of the job, he said that he had to leave early because his son had prom that night. He then asked me to pay for the whole job early in cash, which I did because he said that he wanted to be able to pay his cousin for helping him and pay for his son?s prom that night. He promised that he would be back to finish the job the next day. HE NEVER SHOWED UP AGAIN!!! BTW - THE REVIEWS ON HIS WEBPAGE ARE MODERATED, SO THEY ARE NOT EVEN ACCURATE!
Description of Work: He was supposed to mud and paint garage walls and trim out pipes with wood.

Monday at 8AM, there was no Jimmy around. Finally around 9:30, Jimmy and his crew showed up to the house ready to work. There was no phone call to say he would be late. The first day there were three workers and Jimmy left them there to complete the work. There was a lot of progress made on the first day. All the ceilings were scrapped and a lot of the trash left over was removed, but not all of it. Jimmy's team failed to cover our belongings with plastic so they wouldn't get sheetrock mud everywhere. A TV was ruined and multiple boxes were covered in sheetrock mud and dust. When confronted about it, his reply was that he thought it was "junk that we were donating to goodwill or something." Jimmy did not call or show up on Tuesday or Thursday. Wednesday and Friday he came but was late both days, Jimmy's crew spent a total of about 10 hours at the house sanding the ceilings. Every room he said was complete, was not. There were cracks and areas where too much sheetrock mud was used. It was an extremely unprofessional job. Jimmy's carpenter, his cousin Dale, went to work on our cabinets on Saturday morning. To make a long story short, he cannot cut a straight line at all. The cabinets that were in "finished" condition to him, had a huge split in one and did not line up with the other cabinets. Instead of rebuilding the cabinet correctly, he just used gorilla glue and glued the cabinets back into place. Needless to say, a very very unprofessional job. I would equate the attention to detail to that of a 12 year old had I asked him to perform these tasks. Jimmy explained that he would be out Sunday to expedite the job. 10PM Saturday night, my wife got a text from Jimmy stating, "See you Monday at 9:30." In addition to the above, there was trash and cigarrette butts left all over my yard. Jimmy's crew also took the trash from teh ceiling scrappings from the first day and put them in MY TRUCK for ME to haul off. My wife and I did not let Jimmy Cox finish the job. After 8 days of dissatisfaction and continually calling and calling only to get voicemail, we finally fired Jimmy. Never once did he apologize about our unhappiness; he continually make excuse after excuse after excuse. Do yourself a favor, stay far far away from this "Contractor." He's the one that you hear all the horror stories about.
Description of Work: My wife and I purchased a home built in 1979. We knew somethings were outdated and wanted to take on the project of updating as much by ourselves as possible. The more difficult chores, we were to hire contractors to do the work. We asked Mr. Jimmy Cox to come to the house to give us an estimate. We should him seven rooms that needed texture removed from ceilings and smoothed over for paint. We explained that not all the rooms were empty and that he was responsible for covering those items with plastic to protect them. He said, "No problem." In addition to that, we asked if he could modify the existing kitchen cabinets to accept a double oven instead of the original single oven that was there plus modify the cabinets to accept a new microwave over the cooktop range. Mr. Cox was very confident that he could perform the tasks that we asked him to. We felt he gave us a fair price. Work was scheduled to begin on Monday at 8AM. We paid him $1,000 down to start the job.

I spoke to this contractor twice. After he failed to call back to schedule an appointment to inspect the job, I called him a second time. After again promising to call back to schedule a meeting I told him that if he was too busy or wasn't interested in the job to please let me know so that I could contact someone else. Never heard from him after that.
Description of Work: No services were preformed because the contractor never called back. See below.

Very pleased, but Mr. Cox underestimated the time it would take him to begin my project. I had to call him to find out why he wasn't at my home on the day he said he'd be installing, but he was very polite and apologetic and provided good service once he made delivery.
Description of Work: Built a pergola for my back patio, did most of the sawing off-site, brought it to my home in pieces and assembled in just a few hours.

They came out, gave an estimate for the parts and labor and he also became very easy to work with. They worked within my budget and came in under my budget.
