Great service, very responsive and professional. Great prices too, only charged 1/6th of another company. They kept me in the loop on every step for my rental property even though I am 2,000 miles away. Enthusiastically recommend.

Carolina Air Care came a day early because the weather was getting extremely cold. They came promptly and were extremely courteous and efficient in replacing our old furnace and air conditioner units. We are very happy with our new furnace and would recommend this company to those in need of a new furnace or air conditioner.

I had an old builders grade Lennox heat pump replaced with a Lennox XP25 21.5 seer high efficiency heat pump. Carolina Air was very professional in every aspect of this job. From their initial proposal to the final install. After my old heat pump failed, I was in the market for a high performance system. I got a total of 5 estimates from different companies. Carolina Air was the only company which prepared a formal written estimate which included mid-range to high end systems. I am a mechanical engineer with a MS in engineering. I was very impressed with their knowledge about the different systems. They beat the closest competitor by $6,000 for the exact same system. Their competitor stated they didn't know how Carolina Air could do the job for that price. The bottom line is that I am very pleased with the overall price and quality of installation.

My original service technician sent out for a service call arrived and I told him the problem. I didn't give him a "punctuality" grade because I honestly don't remember if they gave me a time and, as my husband had done service work for years, I knew that sometimes, times don't work out. So he got there when he got there and I don't know whether he was "on time" or not. I turned on the heat for him and he immediately smelled the gas in the house. So we went out to check out the unit. When he found out that it couldn't be repaired, he explained to me that it would have to be replaced. So he started checking on prices and getting an estimate ready for me. After a short time, he gave me the estimate and, since it was going to be very cold this coming weekend, I wanted them to get started it on as soon as possible. Anyway, we made the deal and he was going to find out when they could do the work. A couple of hours later, he called me and said they had an opening this coming Saturday. I would be working, but my adult son would be there, so we agreed that the work would be done then. By the time I got home, they were finishing up. He put in a new thermostat and a CO monitor, turned on the unit to make sure it was working. (In addition, the company called a week or so later to make sure everything was working as expected.) So we had heat when the weather turned cold and we've been toasty ever since. Carolina Air Care was quick, pleasant and professional. I would call them for any of my heating or a/c needs. And I have recommended them to relatives.
Description of Work: Carolina Air Care came out initially because I was smelling gas very strongly when the heat came on. When the service technician got my heating & a/c unit open, he found that it was all rusted out inside. And it was 21 years old. They replaced the unit that weekend.

Excellent, John and his crew arrived on time, were respectful of our space and very responsive to the needs of the job - repairing duct work on the spot instead of another maintenance call out. That saved time and money. Thanks. Everything was restored to its place and the work was done professionally. Overall cost was a bit steep but similar to other quotes received do I guess not bad.

Quick instillation, savings of $150/$175 per month in cooling/heating costs. Smaller and more compact size than original units installed with home. Technician informative/helpful on technical data, warranty coverage and maintenance. Units operate less and more quiet during operation. This review is provided on behalf of Kelly Richardson.

The installers were professional and respectful. They had to build a platform for the unit and the weather was dismal. Pouring rain and chilly. The job took longer than they thought because of the platform and the access, but they did it right and didn't rush or cut corners.

The day after the salesman sold me the unit two installers showed up and removed our old unit and installed the entire new system in about 4 1/2 hours. They were on time, professional and worked very well together. They cleaned up and after they were done you'd have never known they had been here other than two brand new pieces of equipment. The heat pump is very quiet unit which was a must for us because it sits in our backyard near our patio. We are very pleased with the service provided by Carolina Air and feel we got an outstanding price on our new HVAC system.
Description of Work: Our 14 year old heat pump ceased up and the handler in the attic was 18 years old. Carolina Air sent out their salesman who measured our house and wrote up 4 different proposals to replace both units. Proposals varied in price point and energy efficiency. We chose a Lennox Elite Series 4 ton heat pump and a 16.5 SEER rated handler. Price point was more than $1000 cheaper than other proposals we had from other installers.

This was the second time in about 2 months they were called for the same problem. The first time I was not told the bracket for the fan was bad. He came back the next time and was very defensive saying it wasn't their fault it broke. Said we needed a new unit. I told him I can't afford one right now so he said oh well I guess you'll just have to get a window unit and some space heaters for the winter. So , that's where I'm at now.

I called about a week before the service was scheduled and discussed what they would perform. Found a day that would work for me to stay home to schedule the appointment. Gave the person my address etc. The receptionist I spoke to when scheduling my appointment was very professional and helpful. That is the only reason they are getting a D. They didn't show up on the appointed day. When I called a different receptionist answered. I was told there was no appointment. The person barely apologized. She then proceeded to tell me that because I wasn't in their system at all there could have never been an appointment. Several times she went over that I wasn't in the system. I have verified in my placed calls that I did indeed call the exact same number 6 days prior. They were the only company I called so I could not have mistaken the company I made the appointment with. I am not a very picky person and I am generally pretty patient. The problem I had with this exchange is that entire time the person didn't really seem to care. I understand people make mistakes, and software sometimes has glitches which cause problems. As a customer I don't care where the blame lies. I simply wanted a sincere apology and some attempt to make things right. A significant portion of our three minute conversation shouldn't have been about how I wasn't in their system. I was looking for something like the following: I am so sorry that you have been waiting for us and nobody has arrived. Let me look up your appointment. ... I can't find an appointment for that name today, next Monday, or the rest of this week. Could I get your address in case we misspelled your name. ... I'm very sorry, but there must have been some issue entering your appointment as I don't have your address in our files. I am entering your address now. I would like to offer you X amount off of your service and find a convenient time for you to reschedule your appointment. Would that be okay? Much better than one half hearted apology followed by asserting that I'm not in their system multiple times and that there couldn't have been an appointment and wrapping up with a 'what do you want to do'! What I want to do now is find someone else to give my business to and get back the hours I wasted.

I thought their customer service was really pretty good. Their prices were good too. When I called them I talked to whoever their customer service rep was and she scheduled it. She answered a lot of my questions, was really helpful, told me what to expect, gave me the price and sent me the information. They gave me a good price as compared to everybody else. It was not a whole lot cheaper but it was a good price.

Scheduled to come from 3-5 pm, called me at work to say they were ahead of schedule and were coming at 2. I left work early and met them at 2:30. They identified a full overflow pan and a clogged water drain pipe from the air handler in the attic. They unclogged the pipe and the water flowed outside. So that seemed to be fixed. Unfortunately, the next day a water stain appeared on our ceiling. The basin had not overflowed (it automatically turned off the AC when the basin was full), so that is not the reason the water stained the ceiling. They also identified "oil on the coil" which they suggested meant the coil was cracked, and would cost $1800 to repair. I called Air Plus to get a 2nd opinion, and they came a few days later and said the coil was fine and the Freon in the AC was fine.

Carolina Air Care did an excellent job. We have a young child and our air conditioning system went out on a recently purchased home and the home warranty company couldn't get to us for 2-3 days in the middle of August. We contacted a number of service providers and Carolina Air came out within an hour to keep our old unit running and scheduled the new install just a few days later. We did interview four local companies prior to the system going out and Carolina Air Care was not only the least expensive but in our minds provided the best service. The technicians arrived on time, were efficient and took care of everything within 4-5 hours. We've recommended Carolina Air Care to a number of friends and family and will continue to use them if we're ever in need of an AC issue.

Paul and Damron arrived an hour early and immediately went to work. They were thorough, knowledgeable and explained every step of the process. We were very impressed with their professionalism and positive attitude throughout the installation, which took almost 10 hours on a very hot day. The job required work outside and in the attic. They removed the old system and installed a 3 ton heat pump split system with a better energy rating. Several modifications were required and all were explained and done well. Can not say enough about the professionalism, efficiency and attitude of everyone we have dealt with. We had them clean the ducts and fog in a bio spray which will benefit several family members with allergies and asthma. The total cost was $5,025.00 and we will receive a rebate from our electric company for an Energy Wise system. Kyle will return after the system has run for a few days and check to insure all aspects of the installation are completed properly. We will be put on a schedule for an annual system maintenance check.
Description of Work: I called because the central heat & air system was putting out warm air. Kyle called to say he could come early and actually arrived over an hour early. He spent over 2 hours checking out the system and reviewing the records I had on prior repairs by away. The final result was a recommendation that we needed a new system. We agreed and a contract was written that day. We selected the middle of 3 options and were scheduled for installation on 7/30/14.

We had a contract with Carolina Air Care for them to rip out old duct system and replace it with a 3 Ton Hard Pipe Duct System. We got an estimate from the company for $1100 for removal and $3500 for install and return ducts cleaned back in January when we were negotiating the purchase of our house. We told the estimator that we needed to make sure that everything was covered in the estimate as the number was being used in our negotiations of purchasing this house. We were able to get the full amount of the estimate back in our loan for the renovation of the house. If they had told us there was a possibility of hundreds more, we would have been able to negotiate that and get that money back. They told us they were confident this is how much it would be. The plan of the project was to get ductwork removed in April (which they did), have our floor fixed (sistering joists and lifting house), have them install hard pipe 3 ton duct system (projected for the beginning of May), and then have the crawlspace encapsulated with dehumidifier. It was the plan from the very beginning, as the company that did the encapsulation wanted to do it last so that the hard pipe duct work and the installers could not tear up our new encapsulation. They came to start the install. Apparently they were mad from the beginning that they had to work in the dirt and that it wasn't already encapsulated, though no one communicated that to me until everything fell apart. The installer and I spoke and I showed them the new access hole we had put in our crawlspace so they could access the tight portion under our house for the install. We had this done to make it an easier job for both contractors. We were trying to be proactive and helpful because we know that one portion of our house is hard to access. The installers worked most of the day and then when we realized in the afternoon that they hadn't taken out an old piece of ductwork (flex line that had been under the house for 25 years) we asked them about it. THey said they were leaving it under there. We were contracted for a complete installation. I emailed with them and let them know we were having a termite treatment done after the removal, a mold and fungus fumigation, and that the workers were sistering joists. They knew all this and still left an open flex duct. They must have expected us to not realize it hadn't been replaced. Luckily, we checked. They said they can not replace the full system because there is a section under our house that is too small for them to access. Why didn't they tell me that when they were here for an hour doing the estimate? Why didn't they say that in the contract or indicate the flex duct would be left? They are telling us to keep a flex duct that is 25 years old and likely has a hole in it. The flex duct has been open and exposed to mold treatment fogging, termite treatment spray, and dust from the sistering of joists under our house that happened after they removed the rest of the duct work. They did not seal up the flex duct or let us know that they were planning to keep using it. They left it open knowing that we were doing construction, mold treatment, and termite spray for weeks. Any good company would know better than to continue to use the old flex duct, but they decided to go the easy route and use it AND not tell us. We would have never known if we didn't go under our house and look at it. We would have been breathing in mildew fogging treatment and termite poison and would likely be causing more mildew on our floor joists from the leak if we had not gone and found this problem. They told us that our only option was for them to come clean the flex duct or they would remove the entire system that was almost completed. Anyone who knows about duct work can tell you, there's a good chance they will tear another hole in it and it needs to be replaced just about every 20 years any way. It's been under there for 25 years! We are trying to be good people about this, but we paid them $1100 for 2 hours of work to remove our old duct work and there's still debris in our yard from when that took place almost 2 months ago. Most of all, they were almost done installing and decided to back out and remove all of the duct work they installed in a day because it's easier for them to walk away than to honor the contract or to negotiate a way to make sure we have air conditioning in the whole house. Their installer seemed to think it wouldn't be a big deal to cut a hole through our subfloor to run the duct, and we said we would be okay with that. They said no they would only clean the flex duct because that would cost them another day's labor. We told them that we would consider any options that allowed us to have CLEAN air conditioning in our whole house. They did not respond and sent the installer to remove all of the ductwork. They left all kinds of crap under the house and hanging metal straps from our brand new wood (we had replaced center sill, outer sill and most of the joists under our house). I wish I could attach photos. We haven't had air conditioning in the Charleston heat since April 1st (2 and a half months). We waited for weeks to get on their schedule because we felt good about this company because of their Angie's List ratings. They came to get all of their stuff and looks like they didn't plan to honor their contract. I then wrote a review on Facebook and called and asked to speak to the owner. I felt extremely bullied. All I ever wanted was air conditioning that included a full HVAC installation (all new). I told him that there had to be some way for that to happen. He said they did not have guys that could fit under my house and continued to tell me that the company that did the encapsulation didn't know what they were doing because they couldn't get under there either. When I talked to that company, they told me repeatedly to not worry a bit because there's always a way. And they did. With no complaints. At the end of the phone conversation with the owner of Carolina Air Care, he told me that they could run a line up our supply closet and cut new vents in from the attic. We said sure -- open to any idea that gets us air conditioning. He said once we had it encapsulated to email the office and they'd get us on the schedule. Within days the encapsulation was started and they gave me a hard finish date so we could schedule air conditioning. The encapsulation company even worked on Saturday & Sunday to get us completed asap so we could get air conditioning in the 100 degree days. Meanwhile, emails later (email on 6/25, email on 6/26) and a phone call, I still hadn't heard back from Carolina Air Care. When I had called, the office person said she had to ask the owner before she could schedule us. On 7/2 I still hadn't heard back from them. The only reason we were still trying to use them through all of this crap is because we had the checks cut in our closing (HUD - when we purchased our house) and we had to go back through the attorney and paperwork to get it switched and it wasn't going to be easy. In the end, it's what we had to do after not hearing back from them. We went through the paperwork, met with the attorney, got another check cut. Then I had to email them on 7/2 to get confirmation that our contract was void. On 7/3 they emailed me that it looked like they could install us on 7/8. We had already made other plans. NO AC for 3 months in Charleston and this is how we're treated. The one conversation I did have with the owner, he said "I read your very lengthy review on Facebook." Well, I sure hope everyone does before hiring this company! I have never worked with such a bad company. Ever. I have never felt more bullied. And we just put $35k in our house and have worked with 5+ contractors. (Read my other reviews -- ALL positive) On another note, I do recommend Charleston Heating & Air and Moisture Control Experts 100x over. When Charleston Heating & Air came, I didn't give them any of these details and asked them what they thought about the job. He said, it's an easy job and we can do it this week since you don't have AC (put us in the front of hte line). I said are you sure it's easy, pointing out the smaller crawlspace side. He said they have to have installers that can fit under there; they do it all the time. They quoted the same price without even knowing about our prior ordeal. Installed 2 days later and working great! And MOisture Control Experts motto was, there's always a way! Never say it can't be done. Thank goodness for good, honest companies! We didn't have air conditioning from 4/1 to 7/11 in Charleston because of this ordeal!
Description of Work: Removed old ductwork for $1100 -- took 2 people less than 2 hours, left duct work in yard Started install of hard pipe, but then came back and removed it all
